Happy Monday!! I hope you enjoyed your weekend, and Easter if you celebrate. I got a package from Everlane late last week that included a couple things for review. This relaxed poplin shirt is one, but I can’t tell you about the other thing…yet…
I had been looking at this shirt since it launched, and kept going back and forth on whether to order it. I was interested in a blue or striped shirt for spring, and this looked like a good version, and let’s be honest, I always like to try Everlane’s new launches.
I’m wearing a size 6, and while I can button it all the way down, it pulls at my hips/butt, so I prefer to leave the last two buttons open. Of course, I could exchange it for a larger size, but (as usual), it would be too big up top and just swallow me, and I’m happy with the length on this size.
I love the poplin, also, it’s crisp, but not stiff, and since the style is relaxed, works really nicely as part of a casual wardrobe. It would also do well for work wear, tucked into a pair of trousers. Speaking of trousers, has anyone tried the GoWeave trousers? What did you think? I’m going to order a cropped pair this week, just to try. I’m curious on the fit of their pants; I haven’t tried any so far.
I like this outfit on you, Grechen. A very “smart casual” look. Love the relaxed look of the shirt and I had to check which pants you’re wearing b/c this combo with the shirt looks very put together.
I like this look on you! How would you say this compares with the oversized Madewell shirt (I think you wore it last week)? Is the quality better/worse, sizing comparison? Thanks!
everlane’s sizing is definitely smaller, and more fitted at the hips – which is a bit more versatile i think, if you ever want to tuck it in. the madewell one is really tough to tuck in because it puffs out a TON at the waist. the madewell cotton isn’t a poplin so it’s much more casual in my opinion – and very light. the madewell shirt wrinkles like crazy, and from just one wear i haven’t noticed the everlane shirt wrinkle as much. or at least it doesn’t show it!
i like everlane’s fit generally, better than my madewell top, because the madewell one is just really large & billowy on me. i do wish everlane’s was cut a bit more generously in the hips while staying exactly the same up top though, and it would be perfect on me.
i think which shirt (madewell vs everlane) really just comes down to how you want to be able to wear it/your lifestyle, and which company you want to support! hope that helps…
I really, really like this outfit! I think the two buttons undone at the bottom looks like a conscious styling decision. I wouldn’t have thought twice about it until you mentioned it because the fit is so great. And the ponytail gets longer!!!
thanks val – leaving the buttons undone doesn’t bother me so much, i mean, that’s how lots of button front shirts are styled these days. but it does mean i can’t wear it with leggings. which is annoying, but not really, because i have other shirts to wear with leggings. i still get hung up on EVERYTHING going with EVERYTHING though. you know?
Thanks! I’m going to try this one!
The shirt looks lovely on you, just the right balance between crisp and relaxed.
I have a favor to ask. If you happen to have a spare minute and a measuring tape at hand, could you confirm that the size 6 is actually 35.5 inches in the chest? A big thank you in advance!
yes, will do it today…
I adore this look on you. Unfortunately the measurements on everlane’s site mean that the shirt would be very narrow through the chest on my build (and I need room through the chest). I may order it anyway in hopes that the measurements listed are actually wrong… wouldn’t be the first time.
I’m also curious about the new everlane pants. Normally I only wear jeans, leggings or casual joggers, so I’m not sure I NEED a pair of nice wool pants in my life. But I love how it looks on the model, especially with loafers. If they feel as cozy as leggings I could justify the purchase…
ok, so i measured the shirt, flat, right under the arms, and it’s 20.5 inches – i guess the 35.5 is circumference? i have no idea how to measure shirts…so hope that helps?
i’m a size 34b and it fits me well in the chest…
So double it, and that’s the circumference. 41″. Was that their measurement on an XS, tho?
that’s what i thought. but then where in the world did they get 35.5??
mine is a size 6
Good question. You did it right, so I don’t know.
OK, so I think they usually do an actual garment measurement so when you look at the size chart, that’s what you see so you can judge how much ease the garment will have. But in this case, I think it’s Everlane’s recommended bust measurement so the garment will fit a woman with a 35.5″ bust the way it fits the model.
that actually makes sense, but it seems like that should be articulated somewhere. seems accurate, since i guess my 34b chest is about 35.5 around give or take
Thank you so much for measuring, Grechen!! 🙂 The distance from armpit to armpit is exactly what I needed.
I feel Iike I’ve been returning too many orders lately and wanted to be the safe side. At Everlane, I wear some items in small (the winter coat; the u-neck tees), some in medium (most sweaters; summer dresses (poplin and silk)) and some in large (the silk blouses).
