WEARING
James Perse ruched skirt (at Saks, they’ll start their F&F code 4/22 for 25% off!!)
T by Alexander Wang t-shirt (20% off today with code WEAREFAMILY13 at Shopbop)
Tibi sandals (n/a)
Gerard Darel bag (sent for review from Forzieri, see my video review here. I LOVE wearing it crossbody.)
I NEVER do this (I promise), BUT I really felt like wearing flats out, and after I took my original outfit picture yesterday and was browsing to find places that still has the skirt in stock, I was inspired by the styling of the skirt on the Saks website and tried to re-create it. It was really difficult, obviously 😉 Mostly I wanted to see if I could wear flats with it. It’s not the best look, my legs ALWAYS look better in heels, but I was happy I was in flats.
I was out shopping a bit yesterday; mostly I wanted to try on these Sam Edelman thong sandals to see if I wanted to order them with the Shopbop discount, and I didn’t really like them that much. I also wanted to see if I could find some light jeans at the Gap, CHEAP, to wear with this fabulous tunic I got from H&M. I ended up LOVING the sexy boyfriend in this light wash. I tried them on in a size 30 and they were really big in the waist, but fit nicely everywhere else. I think if I get them, I’ll go down a size. But WHY is the sizing completely different online? In the store, I swear I tried on a size 30, is that the 10 online? So is a 29 a size 8? I don’t get it. I’m not even convinced these are the same jeans I tried on, they look like it, but it’s hard to tell. Anyway, they won’t be good with the tunic I got, because they’re too slouchy for that, but the will be good with tanks & t-shirts tucked in, which I’ve never been able to do. And they were really comfortable. They’re having 25% off right now online, so maybe I’ll take a chance and get them. Does anyone have the sexy boyfriend fit? does it stretch a lot? do you like it?
I also tried on the legging jean in the “skimmer” length, which of course was not ankle length on me, and I hated them. I really do hate the gap for jeans, but I get sucked in by the prices, and every once in a while I manage to find a pair I like and that fits me generally okay. I tried on this blue dress too, and it was nice, too long on me, but it draped well (I tried on the medium).
Then back at Nordstrom, I thought I found the ultimate pair of white jeans, because they’re not actually white (click through!). I tried them on in a size 29, and they fit, but they were very strange. They’re supposed to be boyfriend style, so slung lower on the waist and slouchy in the leg, but on me they were definitely not. I could wear them a bit slouchy on the waist, but because I have thicker legs, they were tight on my legs and looked horrible. Maybe if I’d sized up a couple of sizes, but they weren’t worth that much effort, and anyway, I’m not spending that much on jeans right now. I do like the idea though!
I also tried on the James Perse raglan sweatshirt dress in a nice blue color in size 3 and while I like it (so comfortable), it’s not great on ME because it has no shape. And I’ve had a JP piece in that raglan material before and it got snagged a lot 🙁 Finally, I tried on the JP double v dress in a size 3 and didn’t care for it much. It’s too short for me, and seemed tighter than my other ruched dresses…
Ok, now onto more important stuff: what did you buy with the shopbop code? anything? I just replaced my JP leggings with a smaller size 😉
My Sexy Boyfriends from the Gap stretch out 1/2 size. 30 is a size 10, 29 a size 8, etc.
I am so done with Gap pants and jeans. They’re cheap and generally fit me pretty well, but they stretch out and fade SO quickly. Not worth it. To that end, I got a pair of J Brand pants from the Shopbop sale. A splurge, but at least I know they’ll hold up.
Ooh – online shopping SPLURGE! I hate it when you’re in the mood to shop and everything is PANTS on you.

I love a shopping trip in review! Loving that James Perse skirt… I think I’m going to need to find that one.
In regard to Gap jeans… I recently bought the skimmer. They are okay, but I got them marked down, so for 30 dollars I could live with them. I bought the 30, but in every other jean I take a 31 (sometimes a 32, but that’s another story that has more to do with my terrible diet right now). So, I think they do run big.
BTW.. you look fantastic!
I only recently jumped on the premium denim bandwagon, so for years, GAP denim has been my go-to. Unfortunately, I think their quality and fit standards are all over the place in recent years, so I have tended to avoid them. I have a pair of their sexy boyfriends from a couple of years ago, and I like those, but they ran large. I have no idea about the current ones.
And can I say, that outfit it sexy! With heels, it would be great. But I don’t think the sandals are bad, in any sense. In fact, that’s what I live in!
I bought the VINCE sweater, but just missed out on a Chan Luu spike necklace that I’ve been craving! (there will always be another thing I MUST HAVE!!)
I bought a bunch of stuff from Shopbop’s sale twice already, and now because of you, I ordered the JP leggings, so that’s 3 orders within the last 48 hours. Bad! Haha!
I got a few DVF dresses, and loved 2 of them so much.
Gap is hit and miss for me. I have stuff I’ve worn to death, and then there’s also stuff I’ve returned as soon as I tried them on. They have pretty nice kids’ stuff though.
haha!! i placed two orders 🙂 first, the leggings, then a last minute order for these rag & bone jeans after i tried them on yesterday: http://www.shopbop.com/dash-slouchy-skinny-jeans-rag/vp/v=1/1599204884.htm?folderID=2534374302169322&fm=other-shopbysize-viewall&colorId=48572 – they’re AMAZING.
i ended up with those instead of the gap because i think i’ll wear them longer, and if i take care of them, they have resale value – and they were amazing. oh, and sizing down two sizes didn’t hurt LOL
The only Gap jeans that have ever worked for me were a pair of Gap “Edition” bootcut jeans (sold only at the short-lived and long-lamented Forth & Towne). I still have best luck with NYDJ’s, as almost everything else has too low a rise.
The skirt looks great on you, BTW!
re: shopbop sale – I bought the last pair of Karen Walker Perfect Day sunglasses they had on the site, which I’ve had my eye on forever. Thanks for the heads up about the code! love that JP skirt on you, by the way 🙂
thank you! i love karen walker sunnies! i have the deep freeze style, they’re pretty big for my face, but all the better to hide behind 😉
