Raquel Allegra skirt (many years old)
Everlane relaxed linen shirt – this is seriously my favorite Everlane item ever
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals (I purchased these secondhand)
And sometimes Hawk just makes cute faces…he’s not always so concerned and serious LOL
My uniform of late: loose pants or a skirt + button up shirt + baby attached to a boob.
For outside the house, I am always wearing a Storq nursing tank (I have two) or the Storq Everyday bra under the button up shirt; I love them both and highly recommend them. And yes, my cup size increased dramatically since Hawk was born – for the first time in my life, I have a chest to speak of. haha.
Somehow I’m managing to get new arrivals up weekly at slowre, and getting the hang of working whenever I have time to work – I’m trying to keep expectations low. Right now, Hawk is sleeping in his 4moms mamaroo swing we bought secondhand from a friend, so I have time. This swing stays downstairs near the kitchen table which is where I work unless I have to be in my office. I have the baby bjorn bouncer upstairs in the office for him to hang out in there.
I will write a full post (if anyone’s interested) on all the baby things we have/bought and how useful they’ve ended up being eventually. Since he was born so small (now he’s 6 pounds 6 oz) he didn’t fit into most of his clothes, or the diapers I bought for him, so we had to use premie disposable diapers for a little while and buy him a few premie onesies to wear in the beginning; we were NOT prepared for that! Based on his estimated weight at my last ultrasound I thought for sure he’d be bigger at birth, and everyone says they grow so fast, but he’s been taking his time…
Anyway, I can say so far that the mamaroo swing is amazing, and really useful (a lifesaver actually) for us while we’re in the kitchen area eating or working. The baby bjorn bouncer is great as well; he’ll just sit in it and look out my office window until he gets tired of that and starts wailing haha. And the snoo bassinet. WHOA. I wouldn’t have even thought about buying it if we weren’t able to get it secondhand from the same friend we got the mamaroo swing from, but it is AMAZING and allows us to get 3-4 or even 5 hours at a time of uninterrupted sleep every night.
In other news, I’m recovered from childbirth I think (no more bleeding or mesh undies). I can do my own pedicure now, which is HUGE, and something I’m excited about. And I’m getting the hang of living in this new body, sort of. My secondhand Chimala and 6397 jeans from The Real Real arrive today, and hopefully they’ll meet my need to wear jeans again. I order the long sleeve linen kara snap dress in olive from Elizabeth Suzann this week too; it should arrive just in time for cooler weather.
Breastfeeding is going okay – I do supplement with soy formula if he acts like he’s still hungry, which is only once or twice a day. He is definitely on the “low end of normal” in terms of weight according to our pediatrician, but she’s happy with that. And so am I. He’s eating on demand, and fussy for good reasons (hungry, gassy, tired, etc.) so I’m not worried. I think my milk supply is increasing and hopefully won’t have to supplement any more eventually, but I’m also okay with doing that if we need to continue. Fed is best!!
I’m a longtime reader who seldom comments. First, let me congratulate you on your new family member—his little face!
I wanted to chime in and say that I appreciate your healthy attitude about breast feeding. It sounds like you read the alarming article in Health about how the pressure on moms to exclusively breast feed can actually end up harming children. I recommend the piece to the rest of your readers. https://www.health.com/pregnancy/breastfeeding-pressure-fed-is-best
Wishing you continued success in your adjustment to life with baby!
I remember that struggle of wanting to wear various things I couldn’t wear shortly after childbirth…it felt like I was stuck in the same handful of ratty, baby-stained clothes for weeks. With my second baby, the weight do not come off me either…in fact I gained weight. This was the total opposite of what happened with my first baby! The body will do what it’s going to do. Having a few things to get out in that are “nice” helps with that “stuck” feeling.
And again, totally unlike my first, my second baby was in the bottom 6% of weight for pretty much her entire first year. Yet she ate constantly and had a very healthy appetite (as evidenced by her diapers!). Our doctor wasn’t concerned either. She told me, “It’s not textbook, but it’s HER textbook (the baby), so she’s fine”.
That bra looks amazing! I’m done with nursing now, but I still want one of those.
Gah, Grechen, he’s so CUUUUUUTE!
I’m laughing over your “boobs revelation” – being small breasted my whole life, I felt like I’d won the mammary lottery when my milk came in with my first. Lol. Keep feeding Hawk on-demand and your milk supply will be just fine.
He’s just the cutest! So precious.
Hi Grechen, congratulations on the baby! I never comment but wanted to say how much I recognise your situation with slow growing baby and worry about milk supply as first time mother! I thought the advice about just relaxing as stress doesn’t help the milk supply was simplistic but I now believe it is true. In the first difficult weeks it was hard to imagine that one day I will have trouble with way too much milk and a baby who looked like a little Buddha. All in a timespan of just few weeks! Trust your body, relax, things will sort themselves out very soon. Gazillions of women have done all right with breastfeeding before us! You are doing great and I am cheering you on and so happy for you that you finally have your precious baby!
I would love a post on which baby things are useful and which aren’t! I’m in the process of putting together the registry and I really love reading about parents’ recommendations (and regrets) regarding baby gear.
I would lovvvvve a post on what stuff you like! I’m due in December and I’ll be taking diligent notes 😉
