Hello! Well…what an eventful week so far. Who’s caught in the snow, besides mamavalveeta? I’m sorry (not sorry) to say it’s been really beautiful here; on Monday and Tuesday we were in Austin for a friend’s birthday, and yesterday, I met a friend for the second meet-up for the Minimalist.org group here in Dallas. AND, I picked up my new glasses and sunglasses.
It’s been a very long time since I had a pair of “expensive” glasses, but they’re SO worth it (and MAN, were they expensive with the progressive lenses…thank goodness for a robust HSA); they’re so much clearer, and not at all smudgy. To be frank, I’m still adjusting to these new frames. I wanted to go for black, obviously, but chose the brushed gold/bronze instead, for more of a softer look. I’m happy with it, but it’s different. And if I feel in a “darker” mood, I’ll wear my Warby Parker frames.
And my Karen Walker sunglasses turned out really nicely (I got progressive tinted lenses put in those also), so I’m set for a while. The optician said that I could re-use both frames for quite some time; they’re both very sturdy. Which is good, because I don’t want to buy frames again for a while!! Hopefully my prescription will stay the same for a few years…
Anyway, I have so many thoughts about so many things lately – I just need to get them down in writing. I’ve been shopping a lot, but haven’t bought anything, nor have I wanted to. And I’ve discovered that I have obsessive/addictive tendencies. I mean…I knew that, but I have really noticed it lately with Netflix and a jigsaw puzzle I’m working!! More later…
Happy Thursday!!
Love the new frames and softer look. I also really like the white shirt and jeans. We’re getting more snow here in Cleveland so I am very jealous of your sunshine! Enjoy the day.
Oh, hey, you look great! And I love that white shirt on you with the Vince sneaks!
Fantastic glasses!!! I would give my husband’s left arm for a pair of Oliver Peoples specs! (JK…don’t tell my husband ๐ )
Interesting that all of the issues you had with a cheaper brand went away with the finer brand. I might have to do some planning ahead for these….
I love the classic simple look, too. What I wouldn’t give for shirtsleeves and warmth right now! My daughter (16) and I finally got out of the house this afternoon for manicures and a movie. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said, “Selma.” It was heartbreaking, soaring, and oh so good.
I had a similar experience with Warby Parker glasses—I had a pair that just wasn’t as comfortable as they could be. I went back to the expensive French brand that I’d previously bought, and my new glasses fit perfectly. The frames are also more substantial and harder wearing. Part of it is the fact that the optometrist I went to was able to do a lot more fitting, and checking up front that they would fit me properly, as opposed to buying them online, but honestly, the more expensive frames were just better than W-P.
yes. it makes such a big difference…it’s the lens coating also, it keeps away the glare, and resists smudging, unless i get too close to dagny’s nose ๐
i love WP, for a “second” pair of glasses, which i do always like to have, and if i want to wear a darker frame, but for everday wear, definitely oliver peoples wins out!!
Good to hear that the Karen Walker frames worked out well for Rx lenses because I’ve been wanting a pair or her specs, but need Rx lenses. Love the ones you got. Those are on my list…
