Eileen Fisher stretch organic cotton shirt (XS) | at Nordstrom, at Eileen Fisher

Clearly I’m visiting the Eileen Fisher store too often lately; I keep coming home with something. I tried this shirt on a whim last week and brought it home to try with some things. I saw it first in white, and was drawn to it (you know how I love a crisp white button front shirt), but then I remembered that I have a hard time wearing my white button front shirts, so why don’t I try black? Eureka. Why didn’t I think of that before??
I really enjoy black and white together, but the contrast is often jarring and too much for me to wear sometimes, so I end up not wearing my white button front shirts as often as I’d “like to” in theory. Enter the black one.
I’m not usually a fan of a-line shapes on me at all, but I feel like this one is sort of subtle? and since it’s crisp and black it doesn’t look as cutesy as a lot of a-line things can look on me. The XS fits well, but it is sort of big around the chest (story of my life) and down, but I tried the XXS and it also fit, but was a little too constricting at the shoulders/upper arms. I did not try the petite version because I wanted to be able to wear it with leggings and have it be long enough to cover my ass. Anyway, I generally don’t like the petite version of her clothes, even though I am petite; the fit is usually just wrong on me.
You’ll probably notice I’m not wearing this shirt with my EF organic cotton jeans, and that’s because I don’t like it with those jeans – it’s just too much “wide-ness” on me. And since my jeans are not cropped on me, and show no ankle at all, I just find the whole look “meh” and overwhelming. I love the shirt with my slimmer, more cropped Rachel Comey jeans though, and it works with leggings as well.
Another big hit from EF. I think I’ll cool it there for a little while though 🙂
Have you bought anything from Eileen Fisher lately that you love? Do tell!!
I’m still enjoying my last day in Florida, and you all will be happy to know that I have worn my Sunja Link dress and was very pleased with it. I will NOT be turning it into pillows!
Happy Monday!!
So glad you’re enjoying the dress and won’t be making pillows from it!!!
I might try to sew another caftan – I learned a lot from my experience last time and I have a new sewing machine that is easier to use, so if I can find some linen that’s not too expensive….(I’m not a good enough sewer to waste money on really good fabric!)
I’m so glad you’re keeping the dress, it is perfect for Florida! It is such a beautiful piece, and it looks great on you.
I love that shirt on you! It’s very flattering. You are really channeling the breeze-y style well.
oh, thank you 🙂
i did think maybe i looked too eileen fisher-y though LOL
not that that’s a bad thing?
I have three Eileen Fisher items, but I really appreciate each one for what they add to my wardrobe. I purchased them through Trunk Club over the past couple of years! I have a silk poncho in a sapphire color, a black silk tank, and a navy blend swing turtleneck. So far, I’ve worn the navy turtleneck the most, but anticipate wearing the tank more once I have weaned the baby (I simply pull down my cheap cotton tanks to pump but keep tummy coverage at work and don’t want to damage the silk tank, so don’t wear it a lot yet for that reason), and am making the poncho a part of my April-June capsule so that I can try to wear it more frequently!
Lol re:dress as pillows comment!
I really like this combo and can see you getting a lot of wear out of the shirt. It IS just the right amount of wideness!
Really like this shirt on you – another perfect outfit 🙂
Like the shirt! I bought a pair of EF pants last year and was lucky enough to find another pair on sale at Neiman Marcus. While I usually try not to do duplicates, the pants are so comfortable. They are a linen and tencel blend that is great in Florida summers. I really wish more EF items were made this way—the fabric feels and wears better than the jersey or crepe.
I love this outfit on you! The proportion of the slightly oversized shirt and the cropped jeans is perfect. Thank you for sharing the shirt, I’ve wanted a black button down from EF for a long time but the petite ones always sell out so quickly (the regular shoulders don’t work on me although I do like the longer length). I also prefer a cotton to the knit versions they sometimes do. And I wanted oversized so this top checks all these boxes. So, I’ve placed an order and I’m crossing my fingers (I love the two little notches in the front too). I also noticed they have a dark version of the cropped wide leg jeans you’ve been raving about so I am trying that as well. Who knows about the sizing though, I followed the size chart and went with a 10P. I am bummed that my local Nordstrom carries very little petite EF in store now (why?! seriously, Honolulu is literally full of women 5’4″ and under – I suspect it was a nationwide decision and not due to Hawaii’s market). We don’t have EF stores in Hawaii either so that is not an option. EF is so pricey, I don’t like to order two or three sizes to try at once unless I’m only ordering one style.
Grechen, are you still following your 2018 Wardrobe goals? I recall you discussing shopping less and wanting to build up your Elizabeth Suzann pieces. No judgement here if you’ve strayed from your original intentions. I related to much of what you said about debt and shopping so I am wondering. I struggle as well with similar temptations. I also feel Eileen Fisher is having an awesome season! I sense a bit of change in their designs and have bought quite a few things myself (a jumpsuit, a cropped wide legged knit pant). I feel like they are getting a bit more current and stream lined. So, I get it. EF is always a wardrobe builder for me and the good pieces generally sell out quickly if one thinks about it for too long. I was also wondering how we would see your blog change as you purchase less. I loved the styling posts you did that were not your usual Grechen outfits for examples. I need to pull back on my shopping but have bought more pieces this year than planned so I am wondering if you are still on plan or off.
I have a store way too close to me as well, and I got your jeans! I love them. I also tried out one of the jumpsuits and I’m crazy about it – https://www.eileenfisher.com/tencel-viscose-crepe-cropped-cami-jumpsuit-r7ght-p3912/?&color=1958 So pricey but the material was amazingly comfortable.
I’m sure you’ll get loads of wear out of your new shirt…looks fabulous on you!!
The only new EF pieces I’ve bout this year are a wide sleeve hooded jacket in the color mustard seed from Macy’s VIP sales this weekend (haven’t received it yet) and two scarves from eBay.
I have been looking since last spring/summer for a new light jacket with a hood that I can wear during spring/summer showers in a color other than black or tan. I love the mustard color that EF does.
