Today it’s cold. Yesterday, and the previous few days, was so beautiful, I tried to spend as much time outside as possible. And tried to wear things I haven’t worn in awhile, things that are appropriate for warmer, but still cool in the shade, days. So there’s this dress.
I don’t wear the dress very often, but it’s one of my favorites. I sometimes hesitate to wear it because if I wear it alone, I have to wear a racerback bra. And, since it’s double layered at the front, and a mid-weight brushed jersey, it’s quite warm when it gets up into the 80’s here. So it’s a dress more suited to mild weather, and layering, which I love – this outfit is pretty perfect I think. Although I was thinking I might shorten the dress a little bit? I don’t know.
That’s it for today – I don’t have anything else super-exciting to say. Except, I’m so pleased with how my fig plant seems to be doing. Look at how beautiful and full it is! I bought it for $29, which is the most I’ve ever spent on a plant, and never thought I would, but I wanted to have something tall in my office and give it a try to see if I could keep it alive. And so far so good!! My plants make me ridiculously happy every day.
And as promised, since she’s been absent from most of my outfit posts lately:
I’ve spent money on plants before, and I think you got yourself a great deal! I want a fiddle leaf fig so much, but my cat would have a field day. Dagny looks like she’s in trouble! Yes?
Great dress. It, or one like it is on my list for summer.
no, she’s not in trouble, just giving me the eye because i was taking too long to go outside…wasting time taking pictures 😉
Love that fiddle leaf tree! $25 is a steal. They go for at least $100 in NYC.
I have a midi-length black bodycon dress that I am working on styling more. It’s a t-shirt material, so not as thick as my City Chic bodycon dress that is also double layered and jersey, but it’s perfect to wear with a long cardigan, or my sleeveless vest. You always give me such good inspiration!
I love Dagny – what does her name mean?
I have been struggling to wear long skirts/dresses this winter. Of course, the temperatures here in Boston are very harsh, so it’s a bit of a layering problem. But also I feel kind of dowdy in long skirts lately. I have even started a new Pinterest board for inspiration, but it’s mostly long skirts paired with leather jacket and sneakers, which is a good look, but I kind of want more than that (I’m not really a leather jacket person—it looks on me like I’m trying too hard). Anyway, I always find inspiration on your site.
she is the main character’s name in an influential book to me, atlas shrugged – i always found the name interesting and different!
I bought at tiny coffee tree in 2004 and it’s 6 feet tall now and during a warm season it actually bloomed and produced a lot of coffee beans!
This reminds me of when my husband and I were first married. I had a Norfolk Island Pine that I had nurtured from a tiny little thing into a TREE about 3-4 feet tall. My mother-in-law came to stay with us and it was a VERY difficult visit (I didn’t do anything the right way…). She got up in the middle of the night and was tipsy from her sleeping pill and fell into my tree, breaking off several branches. That was the end of my growing days… 🙁
You look so good in this outfit! I think I’ve seen you in that dress in an old photo where you paired it with a shorter bomber jacket and it was equally awesome. I am full of envy and am going to try different pairings to achieve a similar effect on my inverted triangle shape.
Lovin’ that dress and the way you have styled it. I would love to have one but am curvier than you so that makes me hesitate. PS I’m also loving the mirror selfies!
