Do you wear your jeans long or short? I tend to like bootcut or flared jeans long (almost to the floor), but straight or skinny jeans short, ideally above the ankle. I really don’t like the look of jeans bunched up around the ankle, but a lot of people do it, so I thought I’d try today LOL. It’s not that bad, especially with these platform sandals, but in general, I think for skinny jeans with flats, showing a bit of ankle is a little nicer looking. For me, my ankle is the smallest part of my legs, so showing that adds a slimming affect when I wear jeans with flats. In my head anyway. I don’t like to roll jeans up (I can’t silence that voice in my head that says a cuffed pant leg is THE MOST UNFLATTERING if you have thick, short legs), so I generally roll my jeans under if I don’t hem them.
What length do you prefer? Do you roll your jeans up? Or keep them long and bunchy? Or do you hem them to JUST the perfect length?
Wow!! You look so great in that outfit! I love the top with these jeans as much as I did with the Love Story J Brand’s. I think your legs look super-long with the scrunched, longer skinnies. Usually, I’d do what you do, and make sure that my ankle bone shows (a friend in NYC who has worked organizing the closets of some very famous people taught me that trick–even with skirts! But we love our maxis!!). But I do have a couple of pairs of boyfriend jeans that have cuffs. My GAP boyfriends make me feel chunky, whereas my Paige’s fit great and are slimmer on the lower leg, thus more flattering. Why do I keep the GAP ones??? Out they go!!
These look great on you, but I agree that the scrunching can feel awkward. I have a pair that I wear like that occasionally (only with heels), but I usually go for ankle length. I never roll jeans under — I buy most jeans at ankle length, and the longer ones (in a boot cut) I only wear with heels.
ankle length jeans are still too long on me 🙁
and i’m afraid of hemming lately, because i don’t feel like they ever look “perfect” you know?
don’t keep jeans that make you feel chunky!!
i agree wearing them this way makes my legs look longer. i think it might also be the lighter wash denim, weird as that sounds…
I let them scrunch, I really like the look of a little turn up to show ankle but on me its leg shortening…I’ve been dreaming of a pair of lovestory’s but think that I would have to get them shortened so much to fit me that I’d lose the shape. Anyway, i hate losing the “real” hem.
yes!! i do hate losing the real hem also. and even with an original hem, they NEVER look the same. now i just buy ankle length jeans or petite, but i don’t know that j brand makes the lovestory in petite, do they?
They used to. I bought a pair of them a few years ago at Anthro.
on j brand’s site they have a petite valentina – seems to be a much higher rise than lovestory – but a 32″ inseam is still way too long on me. even with heels…
Thanks, I’ll check them out, although j brands are beyond my budget for the moment. Here (Dublin) all the big US brands like seven etc are SO expensive, around twice the price that they are in the states. I think I may have to get that h&m top though, it looks great.
Surprise, surprise, I’m a roller. I spend so much of my time altering all my other clothes, I tend to get lazy when it comes to my jeans. But I won’t deny that having them hemmed to the proper length does overall look much better. (Yes, I’m a fan of the AG Stevie Ankle too.)
They really are SO expensive, Lucy! When I did a semester there I remember thinking that I could make a killing with a secret denim importing business 🙂
You look fantastic in this outfit! I can definitely see results of the hard work you’re putting in with Pure Barre and your diet. I rarely comment, but wanted to chime in with my compliments. You’re looking great. Keep it up!
I’m 5’10”, so I have an “anything goes” attitude when it comes to pants. I roll them, wear them baggy and I like some scrunch at the ankles with my straight or skinny jeans. Whether a pair of pants “stumpifies” my legs never crosses my mind. If my pants are going to be at my ankle or above, I like them rolled to get there, though, for whatever reason. I wouldn’t just wear them that short, know what I mean? I guess that’s my only “personal pants requirement.”
haha! i get your “personal pants” requirement – i do think that it looks more “normal” to roll jeans if you wear them short, but like i said, i can’t get that stupid voice out of my head LOL. maybe i’ll just live dangerously and try it anyway…
thank you anne!!
i really hate having to get everything altered 🙁 but it’s unavoidable really when you have such a short inseam as i do…
Hi Sarge. I know! Black market jeans would sell like hot cakes.
