Kowtow Organic cotton Focus Dress | medium
gray on sale at Rodale’s in large, slightly shorter v-neck version

I got this organic cotton sweatshirt dress by Kowtow a little while ago when Beklina was offering 50% off Kowtow (I hope you were paying attention and got some too!). I also got this cardigan, but it’s been more difficult to incorporate into my wardrobe for some reason. More on that later.
This sweatshirt dress will replace two James Perse sweatshirt dresses I really never wore much (I will be putting this one up for sale in the shop soon). This dress has pockets, which are really essential for me, if I’m being honest. I spend so much time at home, and then run out for errands or whatever, I need things that I can wear all the time, which demands pockets for taking Dagny out for a quick walk (I have to take treats, bag, phone, keys…).
It’s incredibly comfortable, and easy to throw on and go. I would definitely NOT try and dress it up, this dress is absolutely casual, and goes better with sandals or sneakers. The slightly tapered in waist gives it a subtle shape, and the length is great for me, coming right below my knees (above my knees might be more flattering, but makes things much less wearable for me, because I don’t feel as comfortable showing my knees).
I’ve worn it quite a few times since I got it, and am always so pleased with it when I wear it. The only downside is that since it’s sweatshirt-y, it does stretch a little, not keeping it’s streamlined shape for very long, but these pictures are after a day of wear, and it still looks nice IMO.Β The James Perse sweatshirt dress stretched out a LOT more and looked quite messy after wear.
After this, I’m a Kowtow devotee, and look forward to adding many more pieces to my wardrobe as I need to replace things with more sustainable fabrics.Β I’ve got my eye on this dress for spring…
(Garmentory also has a nice selection of Kowtow, although not this dress. Also, check The Dreslyn and Rodale’s for more Kowtow!)
Happy Friday!!!
Love the Kowtow spring dress! It looks really versatile .. like you can wrap it or wear it loose .. cool!
Monica.
Also looks great to wear with leggings—CYA π
absolutely π
Cute dress! I definitely prefer it to the James Perse one — I think the length is great on you, and I prefer the truer black to the more faded JP black. Amazing you got such a great deal on it too!
it is an overpriced long sweatshirt, basically. all cotton means it will stretch out badly, not good for sitting – it absolutely needs a synthetic component for memory, to bring it back to shape. looks a bit messy at the bottom, puckering… but for dog walking or just plain walking in cold weather it is perfect! π
Looks cute! Wish it would cool down enough for me to wear something other than shorts!
Off topic, but did you happen to read “The Myth of the Entical Shopper” on the Huffintonpost? Interesting stuff.
It’s great to see some New Zealand fashion (Kowtow) on your blog! The dress looks fab on you!
Why so many black dresses? How many does anyone need?
so much for “minimal closet”… and all that “ethical” shopping we do to justify our own shopping and not feel guilty about it. yes, it is organic cotton, we are helping the environment, people, the greater cause, but, as my friend once said, “I am the cause, so is every single person in my family”…
Yep, pretty much. I still think it’s cute at least, and probably pretty comfy too.
Really cute, I like it better than the James Perse ( Blasphemy, I know!) because I’ve come to realize I’m not a fan of cowl necks. Plus, pockets for poop bags!!! (If that doesn’t convince you that a garment is suitable for home wear, nothing will!) And the length is truly perfect!
Officially all caught-up! π
I think this length is really nice on you and that this dress would also look great with tights and boots. And I totally agree re the added bonus of having pockets!
Ah I’m still trying to find the perfect Breton striped top for me and have bought quite a few over time. Maybe it’s something like that for Grechen.
