James Perse Crepe jersey flare dress | I’m wearing a size 3, one size up from my normal
Dannijo necklace | n/a
No6 Clog wedges
Trying to get this post up today, so pardon the poor(er) image quality! Sadly this dress in black is already sold out at James Perse, but it’s still available in gray at James Perse for $79 in all sizes. And in black at Shopbop in size 0 and 1 for $122. **check the comments on the fit guide & swap post, a reader has this dress available in size 4!!!
I sized up to a size 3 in this dress because I wanted to be sure it fit my hips, so at first I was a little conflicted about the fit. I have been obsessed with it since I tried it on in the store many months ago, and couldn’t wait to get it at such a great price. It fits, but does cling a little bit to my hips. I think this material will stretch a little (I have a long skirt that’s also recycled crepe that stretches a bit), so it will loosen up there, but aside from that, it’s quite roomy in the waist and the shoulders are a teeny bit wide. The more I look at it and think about it, the size is perfect though – if I’d gotten the 2 it would have been shorter, and less comfortable. And I probably would have had to wear shapewear with it, which is against my new rules for adding to my wardrobe.
Ultimately, I definitely recommend this dress as an alternative to fitted, and in an interesting slightly textured material. It’s warm for 90+ degree heat, but will be wonderful this fall, even with the 3/4 length sleeves. Also, the flare isn’t too extreme, which I really like. It’s a basic, easy dress that looks great with lots of shoe options also – I can see myself wearing this for travel with sneakers or my birkenstocks, but dressed up a little with heels. Or my version of heels anyway LOL.
The gray is really lovely also, if I wasn’t trying to MINIMIZE my closet, I’d get it in gray too, but that is NOT necessary. But if you like the shape of the dress and your size in black is sold out, I think gray is worth a try.
I also got the boxy collage top in white, which is great, but also too warm to wear right now. It needs a cami underneath because it’s quite sheer, but I love the drape and the neckline. I got a size 2.
Also, since I know a lot of you guys got things you can’t wear, or are still looking for things that have sold out, I am going to create a separate post that will allow you to leave comments with items you have and don’t want, or are still looking for so you guys can trade or sell to other JP fans. I will not accept any responsibility for anything going wrong though, so please post/buy at your own risk. I’ll get the post up later this afternoon. **here you go!
I’m also going to do another post with fit feedback from you guys on things you bought, so if you have any input, please leave a comment either here with details, or on the original sale post. Thank you!!!
This dress is perfect on you!! I love it! I’ve had a dress like that on my “wish list” forever, because it’s so versatile, as you said. I can see it with tights, boots and a big cardi/long knit sweater vest for winter where I live. But you’ve styled it perfectly with your Dannijo necklace and No. 6 clogs.
That dress looks great on you! I can’t see the shoulders as too big at all, nor do I detect any clinginess at the hips. Maybe you’re very self-critical these days? Anyway, at least it photographs well! What a great buy. Thanks again for posting about the sale. I would never have looked at the site otherwise. All James Perse I’ve tried on in stores like Nordstrom were way too big in size 1, except for the classic button up top with ribbed sides. I didn’t even know they had a size 0 until I went to jamesperse.com. I’m still waiting for my cotton/linen coat to arrive. I’ll add my comment to your future post about people’s sale items.
Agreed, okayiamshopping! Hips? What hips?!? Black is my favorite color for that reason alone!
yes, well, i’m always self-critical, but you’re right – looking at these pictures, i can’t see any of the “issues” i mentioned. i’m very pleased with it!
and i hope you love your coat! can’t wait to hear about it!!
thank you! now i just need to remember how great it looks in pictures when i’m looking in the mirror š
i love it though, it’s a great shape, and one that i don’t have already, so i know it was a good buy.
Wow, you look great!!! I love the fit on you, it’s a really good look. Love the idea of putting the final sale rejects up for grabs for those who might be looking. I’m bummed about my two final sale mistakes but happy that the second order in a different size worked. Yay!
The dress looks really great on you. I found a rack of James Perse clothes in a Sydney Department store but they were not in my budget. They were really expensive. If I buy any of his range I will ship from the US.
