James Perse Exclusive Birkenstocks | size 38*
Jerome Dreyfuss Florent Backpack | review here
I’m not going to lie, my heart skipped a beat when I first saw the James Perse Birkenstocks. As much of an addict I am, I’ve never purchased a JP exclusive collaboration before, and I knew I had to have these. Remember the James Perse exclusive Repettos? (never got a pair because they didn’t go on sale, and I couldn’t stomach spending so much on canvas flats). James just “gets” me, doing exclusives with my favorite brands. Sigh.
Ha! Drama aside, these are basically just Birkenstocks, but because they have the James Perse stamp of approval, and are two-tone (grey on the outside), they’re just THAT much cooler. And more expensive 😉 But not by much, and if you wear ugly shoes, ie Birkenstocks & Mephistos as much as I do, these are a pretty good investment. Cost per wear will get down to pennies I’m sure.
The leather is pretty stiff, so I’m wearing them around the house all the time to soften them up. My other pair is suede, so they were much softer out of the box. But if you’re a regular Birkenstock-wearer, you know the drill. As I mentioned in a comment on another post, I’ve worn Birkenstock & Mephisto all my life, almost never needing to buy new pairs because you can have new soles put on, and even replace the cork with Birkenstocks, so as long as the leather straps are okay, you can basically keep replacing the bottoms forever. Which I will do with these. Anyway, it takes a very long time to wear the cork and soles out on Birkenstocks, so they’re well worth the price.
And obviously, if you’re a James Perse fan AND a Birkenstock fan, you absolutely MUST get these. Before they sell out.
*a note on the size: I got a size 37 in my other Birkenstock Arizona sandals because they were discounted. 38 is my “normal” size (it’s what I wear in Mephisto), so I took 38 in these. The footbed feels better than the 37, but I have to tighten the straps more.
I’ll have to pass on the sandals … but I love your classic look here .. white shirt, jeans .. perfection!
Monica.
Yup. That is pretty much a perfectly styled “live in it everyday” look! I think you made the right decision about the JP Birkies. You would’ve regretted not getting them.
I LOVE THIS LOOK ON YOU! So fresh!
Haha! Thanks Jennine! I’ve never really considered myself “fresh” LOL
It’s the pony tail! 😉
what, the “world’s smallest pony tail??”
So, I’m not into the “ugly” sandal but I can understand the appeal and sometimes a girl just wants to put on a comfortable shoe. HOWEVER, if I were to get a pair of Birkenstocks I would totally be swayed to get these. I’m all for that two-tone strap, it makes them look chicer I think (it might be the color combo).
LMAO! (Thank god for panty liners…)
The extra touch of the two-color straps really makes a difference! Madewell has a pair of Arizonas with a white sole that does the same thing.
I ordered a pair of Gizehs from Ebay that are all black–the cork footbed and all. They’re coming from Germany, so I suspect they weren’t sold in the US. I’m hoping there’s nothing weird about them…they might be my “ultimate” sandal!
i’ve often thought about getting a pair of gizehs, but after seeing more than a few pairs looking really worn out (the leather on the thong starts to bend upwards), i decided against them. anyway, my mephistos are very similar in style to the gizeh, although not as “cool” !
i hope you like them, they sound interesting – i’ve never seen them with the black cork…
haha! omg…
haha! all i want is to put on a comfortable shoe!! 🙂 i still love heels and big clunky clogs, but i just don’t want to wear them…
That outfit looks very You, if I may be so bold. You look very comfortable and contented in your own skin. 🙂
Thank you amy! I am 🙂
Jen, I’ve debated ordering those same all-black Gizehs on eBay (likely from the same seller). I have a pair of olive-bronze floros that are about 5 years old, and are still going strong, but have always wanted a black leather pair. If you could post back whether there’s “nothing weird about them”, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
I have the black patent Gizehs that I got for a steal last year on Mill Mercantile’s website, and with my high-instep, they don’t work great, but I’m still breaking them in. Plus, I wish I could say that the thong piece between my toes was more comfortable. But, I’d be lying! I think they’re cute for ugly sandals!
