Outfit: Inspired By

wearing: Madewell skirt (as a dress) | Vintage Wrangler denim shirt (from MOSS) | Candace Ang necklace | Rag & Bone sandals | J.W. Hulme bag

This outfit is totally inspired by (stolen from :) ) Jennine. her post reminded me to play around with my clothes, and originally I wanted to try this with my H&M skirt, but I really didn’t like it as a dress. And paired with a denim shirt, it was WAAAAY too prairie for my taste.

This is my beloved Madewell maxi skirt turned into a tube dress. I have a tube dress by James Perse that I like better because it’s a better length for me (hits at the knee). This skirt is better as a maxi skirt, I think – because of my large legs/calves, I can’t do the midi-length. I’ve tried – really I have – but it doesn’t work. I do love the idea of wearing a longer skirt two ways though, and I’m not saying I won’t actually wear this outfit again, but on me, skirts need to hit at the knee, or fall to my ankles – not somewhere in between.

This is better, no?

What length skirt do you wear? short? long? in the middle? (just for the record, I’m only 5’3″ and I wear maxi skirts constantly – it’s a MYTH that you can’t wear a long skirt if you’re short. you should try at least :) )

You look great in both!

I guess I could take a whack at maxi skirts but being 5’1, they always seem to reach the floor on me.

thanks amy! yes…try it! wearing a platform or wedge will definitely help, but i totally think you could pull off a longer skirt.

maybe try a skirt first? i really think a long skirt with a blouse tucked in – or at least something to define the waist – is super-flattering. even on us shorties :)

I actually like you in both lengths. Part of the reason you like the other more could also have something to do with the nude shoe. They make your legs look longer.

you’re absolutely right. those rag & bone sandals are better under a long skirt, they’re not the most flattering for my leg…

I think the top one looks nice on you but the bottom one looks super nice!! I think it’s just because it’s so hot so I think the second one looks cooler. I love those nude wedges too :)

I’m 5’10″, so back in the olden days, I used to wear minis and was a hot young thing! Now, I’m a hot old thing, so I wear skirts to the knee or just below, and also, Grechen got me to wear maxis! (thank you!!) I have received a lot of compliments on my James Perse straight-cut maxi skirt in black–it really makes me look thinner than I am.
