I need a belt. I don’t like belts. I dislike belts almost as much as I dislike socks. But I need these pants to stay higher up on my waist, not drop. They do stretch out a lot with wear, which makes them incredibly comfortable, but I don’t like where they sit on my “hips” now. They’re way 70’s jeans at this point, which isn’t really the look I am going for. Sort of, but not entirely 😉
*actually in this photo they’re not bad, because I hiked them up a little before the camera started snapping. But they don’t stay that way.
Anyway, you know by now how picky I am about things and I don’t really like “visible” accessories like belts, big necklaces, etc. I do have an old Everlane belt, but it has hardware on it, which I DO NOT want now. Yes, I realize how difficult it is to fasten a belt without hardware. And I don’t like tying belts. I just need a long strap of leather with a a small ring I can slide on to keep it closed, is that so hard?? Any suggestions for belts without hardware?? (this one by Beltaway is mildly appealing)
Also, I’ve worn this Power of my People shirt quite a few times by now and I like it very much. I prefer wearing it tucked or tied instead of all hanging out, unless I’m wearing it with leggings or something slim on bottom. I have worn it with leggings at home, but I’m not sure I’d wear that in public…(leggings are not pants).
I prefer the sleeves rolled now, and I think that alleviates some of the sticking out that short linen sleeves tend to do. I have washed it only once so far, so it’s about due for another! I really enjoy wearing this when I do, which honestly isn’t very often, since I prefer t-shirts to button front shirts, but when I’m not in the mood for a tee, this is what I reach for!
Happy Wednesday!! I have to run and buy printer ink since it ran out RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SHIPPING so many orders from Slowre this morning! Ugh. Hope you’re having a great day.
Ugh I hate belts too, but maybe this is the answer for my belt needs too 😉
On my first search, none of them are ethical / sustainable…is this the style you are looking for?

And if it’s too big you can easily get it cut down

I’m sure there is someone on Etsy who is making something like this!
yes, sort of like that but without the buckle LOL
so, on all my alexander wang bags, he adds a leather oval for the shoulder straps to keep them “contained” if that makes sense. I want that for a belt. with the full knowledge that I won’t really be able to cinch the belt very tight. ugh. well that sort of defeats the purpose then, doesn’t it. haha. back to the drawing board.
or tonal hardware. WHY DOES NO ONE DO TONAL HARDWARE????
https://beltaway.com/
???
I have never tried one myself
YES. and i think my husband would like these as well.
thanks!!
There are belts without hardware (obi & sash) but they are better worn on the natural waist or higher (to cinch a dress or top in), not to keep your pants up. I do think a worn belt with a non-shiny metal would look great with your clothes. I’ve had the perforated belt by Linea Pelle for years. It is the belt I most often reach for when I have a jeans that starts to fall during the day. I think it would look great with your wardrobe. Comes in different color leathers (I have several) with either aged brass or silver hardware. There are holes all the way around so you can position the belt at different rises and also wear at multiple weights/sizes. But most important, the leather is soft and molds to you (I hate when belts gap). There are also JCrew ribbon belts with minimal hardware (but still has a loop to pull it through). Those belts generally look very preppy and may not stay fastened well enough if the main purpose is to hold your pants up.
They do tonal hardware Grechen. I have a Gucci belt I bought from a consignment store that is black with black hardware. Just google black (or whatever color you want) hardware. Or go shopping IRL (mall or thrift/consignment). I know that is less your thing but I find I need to try on belts to make sure they don’t gape at the waist. Try the men’s department too, I think black with black hardware is common in mens.
I have had this belt for years and am obsessed with it. I used it through my pregnancies! When I lost weight! When I gained it!

I have exactly one belt. It’s black leather with a Pacific Northwestern design buckle (I don’t know what it means, I just liked the look and it’s not too big). I bought in Seattle at the Pike’s Place market back in the 90’s. I’m wearing it right now!
Good luck with your search!
I have a couple of pairs of jeans I have to wear with a belt because they slide down. I have most of those in my pugatory/donate/sell piles, but I like the fit/look otherwise on a couple enough that I still have them. My immediate thoughts:
1. Take them in at the waist? Might be tight after laundering but might help them stay up when they do stretch.
2. I bought these for my toddlers but they work passingly for me, too. I wonder if they make them in bigger sizes? Answer: Yes, they do!

that belt is beautiful!!! thank you for sharing it 🙂
Hi Gretchen-
I don’t know if you remember Canal Jeans that was on on Broadway, where the ‘new’ downtown Bloomingdales is now in Manhattan. They sold army navy surplus stuff in crazy colors. Try an army/navy supply and get the cotton belts with the metal buckle. They are sleek, about and inch or a little more and will go w jeans & khakis etc. Let me knowwhat you think. Hope all is well,
Love from NYC,
Gena
Ok, this is not an attractive belt – to be worn ONLY when it won’t show, but ladies – it’s a game changer. It is like not wearing a belt at all, but keeps your pants up all day in comfort! love this!!!
thanks erin!
Hello Grechen, you can also use a black or blue thread in place of belt. It is not easily visible and stay higher your jeans. But I don’t think you need anything for your jeans, It look perfect without belt. Keep posting!
Thank you Meg.
