So…I’m not doing the 10-2 challenge anymore. I learned what I needed to learn from it: that I can stick to a very edited wardrobe when I need to (for travel), but I also learned that I love my clothes – ALL of my clothes – too much to limit what I wear at home for too long. I do get frustrated that I have things in my closet that I love, but don’t get a chance to wear very often, and think that that means I should have less stuff. Which it probably does, but as long as I truly love each piece that I decide to add to my wardrobe (or keep in it), I should be able to “manage” my wardrobe more efficiently.
My biggest problem is that I buy multiples of things I do love, then end up with holes in my wardrobe anyway. The key to solving this, I think, is doing an inventory once a quarter, at least, and really thinking about what I’d like to add or what I need to replace in the coming months. Not just shopping willy-nilly like I do now. I also like the idea of planning my wardrobe for the week – making sure to add in things I haven’t worn in a while, or want to wear, but just never pull out because I forget that they’re there. Ugh. That makes me feel bad, that I have so much stuff that I don’t even remember what I DO have…
I’m sure we’ll continue that discussion later, and often, but for now, I’d like to talk about the Hope news trouser. The best pants EVER. And yes, I know I say that a lot. I have a lot of “best pants ever” in my closet, which isn’t a bad thing, I don’t think. But these trousers are incredibly flattering, just a little slouchy, and perfect for pulling off an irreverent menswear look! I’m wearing a size 40 because that’s what Steven Alan had in stock and on sale, and I do like the fit, but would probably be better suited with a size 38, just so they’re not quite as slouchy after wearing for a while. HIGHLY recommend these, and they do seem to go on sale frequently, either at Steven Alan (the olive are a very nice color, and $99 right now) or Totokaelo, so keep your eye out!!
And while at Steven Alan yesterday after getting my hair cut (!) I tried on the Le Garcon jeans by Frame Denim and am sure they’ll be my next denim purchase. They’re just a slightly slouchy boyfriend jean with not such wide legs, similar to the Rag & Bone dash jeans I have, but without the holes, and not quite so big on me! I tried on the size 29 which are my normal size, and I think that’s what I would get. Mostly to fit my legs, because there was some gap in the waist, but they would sit a little lower as they stretch anyway. So comfortable, and I loved the wash.
I really like this look on you- good sweater/tee combo, good pants, good nail polish/ring. All working.
I really like that selfie! And glad you decided not to waste your willpower on the challenge, once you had learned what you needed.
Do the Hope trousers come in French or Italian sizing? They are very similar to one of my favorite pairs of pants from J. Crew, but the J. Crew ones are a more fasded wash / casual cargo style. But I love the slight slouchiness without being really baggy.
I was just going to tell you about those jeans. I got them last week with the ShopBop coupon code. They are awesome 🙂 you have great taste
haha! so do you!! did you size down? or take your normal size in those?
hmmm…they’re swedish, so “european” sizing? haha…i have no idea. or anything to compare it with really. most sites i’ve seen say that size 40 is “large” 38 is medium and 36 is small.
I took them in my normal size. I wanted them slouchy. I got the lighter color in a smaller size tho. They both fit equally well and the waist is slouchy on both. The legs in the smaller size are smaller which is what I was hoping for. I hope they wash well they are my favorite jeans now.
Your haircut is adorbs! Slightly “edgy” and very YOU. And I love those jeans!!! Gotta have…I’m on the hunt for slouchy but not too slouchy! (My Paige’s fall down! I suppose I could wear a belt… 😉 )
I just completed the 10/2 challenge and did pretty well. In fact, I just realized that I’m on day 11 but still wore the same stuff without knowing the challenge was over, so I guess I didn’t suffer too much. I wore three bottoms (all ponte knit trousers), four tops, and three sweaters. For half of that time, I was travelling (I brought eight items), so it made it easy to recycle stuff.
Good for you for doing it and figuring out tips on what to pack. I’m still perfecting my packing lists and don’t think I’ll ever get them 100% because the weather can always change when you’re away.
