It’s finally hot here in Dallas. REALLY hot (it took longer than usual to get up to 100, but it’s here…) So, I don’t wear pants much when it’s so hot, or long skirts, or much of anything if I can help it. But unless I’m running or at the pool, I don’t spend a lot of time outside either, so what difference does it make WHAT I wear? I might as well dress for being INSIDE, rather than outside. And inside is FREEZING. Yesterday we went to the Dallas Museum of Art and I wore jeans and my James Perse 3/4 sleeve linen top. I could not wait to get out of there and back into 100 degrees. Next time we go, I’m bringing a cashmere cardigan.
Anyway, the harem pants aren’t any warmer than any other pants, so I do wear them every once in a while during summer (they’re pretty versatile for any weather). And although I don’t do this, you can wear them higher up on your leg by just pulling them up a bit on your calves. Then It looks more like a bubble skirt, which is sort of cool.
Do you ever wear pants during summer? or do you retire them until cooler weather?
I love the bottom outfit, especially! Cute! I can’t tell, but is the Ryan tank charcoal or black? It looks more grey, which appears more intentional. And I like that. Do you find it difficult to match blacks sometimes? I do, and I always find that odd, as if every shade of black should be identical! 😉
I wear pants when I go out, but shorts at home. It’s not that hot here in Montauk, but I still generate enough meno-heat that I could survive in A.C. quite well, thank you.
the tank is charcoal. even though i try sometimes, i really can’t do all black – i just don’t like it on me. i like black & white or black & gray, not black & black, unless the textures/materials are different. in this case, the harem pants and the tank top are nearly the same composition so they would blend too much if they were both black. i do like SOME contrast!!
i like the black/white outfit better too 😉
I usually do contrast, unless I’m in “NYC editor mode” or trying to convince myself that I look thinner!
At home, I wear shorts a lot, or else lightweight cropped trousers. But the a/c at work is frigid, so I wear full-length linen trousers or lightweight cotton and shoes with socks. Sometimes I go to work in sandals and switch my shoes when I get there so my toes don’t freeze off!
I wear skirts, as well, but usually maxis with leggings underneath to stay warm. It’s ridiculous.
wow…that’s brutal!! i’m sorry for you 🙁
i am SO MISERABLE when i’m cold. like, i can’t concentrate on anything else. and it takes a lot to warm me up when i get that way…
Those pants look really comfy, I like!! I tend to look better in things with structure but I love slouchy, loose things and want to buy a pair of drapey pants.
I used to wear nothing but pants/jeans even when it was hot (crazy I know) because I was so self conscious about my legs and didn’t want to show them. I have chicken legs or at least they look that way to me. But as I got older, there was just a point where I said f- it, I’m going to wear what I want, these are the only two legs I’m going to have and there are too many cute skirts and dresses that I’m not enjoying. I generally wear pants or jeans when it isn’t too hot outside and our office has casual summers so I like to take advantage of it.
Grechen! The backpack is making me crazy! I wonder if I could make it work full of diapers! LOL
I love it more each time I see it on you.
I am still enjoying my harems–thank you! I do wear mine as a bubble skirt and I love them to travel in as well.
I still wear pants in summer on occasion but not so much during the day…too hot in Texas.
Love the pop of color on the sandals! (I’m not a neutrals person, it would appear 😉 Today is the first day I’ve worn pants to work in 3 or 4 weeks. Hello, summer in the south – dress and a cardigan, every day!
haha! i know how much you guys love it when i wear some color 🙂
i love these sandals, but i find the patent annoying when its VERY hot. makes my feet sweaty!
Have I already asked you this– have you tried on the EF Harem jumpsuit? I love the harem pants, but I think they are too cool for me. They sort of go along with the Art Teacher Chic you posted about the other day… maybe more of a Downtown Gallerist chic. Both kind of my dream wardrobes, but they don’t really match my day to day life very much.
i haven’t tried on the jumpsuit – i can’t find it anywhere! i love it though, jumpsuits are pretty high maintenance for me, who likes to layer. i don’t like having to get undressed completely to go to the bathroom!
the harem pants don’t fit my everyday life very much either (not sure what does, really), but they’re fun, and so comfortable.
Ha, that’s always my thought with jumpsuits too, but at least with the loose waist pulling down the jumpsuit would be easier! And I think the EF jumpsuit would layer really well, but only if you could get your arms free of the layered top quickly for the bathroom problem. I love those tipster videos they have on the EF website, in which they are always highly layered and look great.
