It’s been cold here. Winter cold. We usually get a couple of months to work up to 40 degree weather, but it snuck up on us in OCTOBER. And the rain. Oh, the rain. When the weather is like that, I tend to hibernate; I’d rather not go out or do anything if I don’t have to.
Yesterday there were periods when the rain let up, and I had to go to the post office anyway, so I “got dressed” and went out to have lunch and run a few errands. I LOVE my white Dansko clogs and wear them every chance I get; they are so comfortable, and wonderful for rainy, cold weather. And yes, I actually LIKE THE WAY THEY LOOK. Now everytime I wear them, I say a little “F You” to the women on a message board I found recently who took pleasure in bashing my shoe choices. These particularly. Orthopedic? Yes, so?
Eh, whatever, I may be wearing ugly shoes, but at least they’re not boring 🙂 And I don’t look like everyone else.
But please notice the socks.
I may actually now be a sock convert. If you’re new here, you may not be aware of extent to which I HATE SOCKS. I have refused to wear socks most of my life unless I am forced to (for Pure Barre). But now that I’ve tried wearing socks again, I love them. They keep my toes warm. Duh. And, I’m not opposed to the little bit of color there at my ankles.
Happy Thursday!! I hope there’s a little sunshine in your day, wherever you are. I miss it!!
White Dansko clog alert: In the November issue of Bon Appetit, their Food Director has a profile and talks about her love for her white Dansko clogs! (And it mentions the Beklina clogs as an after hours alternative.)
i consider myself in good company then 🙂
and i do love those beklina clogs also…
I have a few pairs of the Hansel from Basel socks, and they are so much fun!
I hate socks! I pretty much will only wear them with boots or if it’s SUPER cold. Same with coats, though, and I LOVE coats. Ah well. Glad you’re wearing what makes YOU happy!! We’re finally having fantastic fall weather – which means I’m happy to go out for walks at lunch again! My office is across the street from the university Gardens, perfect quick lunch nature break 🙂
1. You look fabulous.
2. There are people discussing your shoe choices on a message board? Really? I think that’s more of a reflection on them than on your style.
Wait, what? People will read your blog and then take the time to find a message board to bash you? Who does that?!?! Who has the time?!?! If there is a blogger whose aesthetic I don’t jive with, I don’t bother following them. I really don’t get it. So yah, F those jerks! You do you, Grechen! There are lots of us who think you (and your shoes) are fab! Even if we don’t comment very often.
well, to be fair (ahem) the original poster to the message board meant suggested grechen’s closet a source of “inspiration” for another person who was looking for bloggers who are not typical, or young and very thin…and then the bashing started LOL
Oh boy! Stay away from the message boards, I guess! I think a lot of famous people don’t read comments about themselves either, so there you go!
i try not to…i just followed a link back from a referral because i was curious. shouldn’t have!!
Lisa and Brenda, I agree! It’s just a mean, mean cyber world out there sometimes. But Grechen, PLEASE don’t read those message boards. Those women are creepily obsessed with what other women wear and the overjoyed at tearing them apart. Why put yourself through that?
*So, socks keep your feet warm…imagine that! ?
I agree – to the people who have time to “discuss” (diss?) shoe choices on a message board, please get a hobby (if not a life)!
