Splendid Ribbed maxi dress | size medium. Seriously. The best dress ever.
Everlane seed stitch sweater | size medium
Rag & Bone Quinn sandals | these run true to size
Jerome Dreyfuss mini twee | sold out in “nude” available in yellow at Shopbop
Virginia Johnson shawl | mine is very old, the new prints are so beautiful!!
Well, clearly, packing for this trip was THE HARDEST THING EVER. Seriously. I started yesterday in the early afternoon and realized there was NO WAY I was going to get everything I needed for a week into my teeny tiny bag. PANIC mode. Oh, I had several mini-breakdowns yesterday until I decided I didn’t care anymore and just stuffed everything in the best I could.
If I didn’t need so many shoes, this wouldn’t have been such an issue, but I need to bring my running shoes, and they take up a lot of room (maybe I should have worn them?). Also wanted to take my Birkenstocks, and these Rag & Bone sandals for something “nicer.” Then, I brought my gold Melissa sandals for the wedding. Luckily, my husband had room in his bag for those.
It’s hard to pack for a week in such a small bag. And again, I probably over-packed, but the challenge was packing for an “occasion” in addition to just hanging out at home. And all my weird issues with dresses/skirts don’t help (saddlebags!!). But as you read this, we’re on the way to the airport and what will be will be, so all is behind me.
This outfit is so ridiculously comfortable it’s not even funny. But then of course, most of my outfits are. I ended up wearing the Rag & Bone sandals because I didn’t want to squish them in my bag, and I have nice thick socks (in my beautiful MZ Wallace tote, which I see is sold out!) to put on on the plane. Also, my trusty Virginia Johnson shawl, which has been on every plane ride, ever, will keep my legs warm if the skirt is too thin, or my neck if the air is too cold. When we get to Tampa, I can remove the sweater, and done! Ready for the rest of the day.
I did end up deciding to wear the Acne dress to the wedding. It’s gorgeous, and I do own it, so why not wear it? Adding shapewear underneath helps it too, I think, just smooths everything out a bit more since the bag is so draped.
On another note…the James Perse outlet is offering 30% off everything this weekend and there are a WHOLE LOT OF REALLY AMAZING things on sale + an extra 30% off. Click the links below to view the pdf files of the items at the outlet and call (ask for Eric if heβs available, and tell them Grechen sent you) to order (they usually charge $10 to ship):

WOMENS – MAY 2014
As I mentioned before, the sale at James Perse online is coming, but later than usual this year. I’ll let you know details as soon as I can divulge them π
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!
Grechen, you look great. No James Perse on the plane?! I’m shocked;). Have fun at the wedding, and take lots of pics. We’ll wanna see your outfits in Florida.
So I googled “coupon codes” and your website came up. Thank you for posting all the great deals. However, I after reading your post I have to wonder – do you have a Histrionic Personality Disorder or is all the melodrama and self-centeredness for affect?
Thought of you…. Ran by Off 5th Saks outlet today and entire store is 40% off. Picked up a great pair of basic slouchy JP pants for $60ish. Bam!
Kirsten, after reading your curt comment, “I wonder if you have a bitch disorder.” Unfortunately, I hear that there’s no cure for that condition.
Just saw the Acne dress at Barneys this morning! It has a really nice drape and will be perfect for the wedding.
Looking forward to your pictures from Florida!
It kills me to know that there are all of these great finds out there, and I’m HOUSEBOUND!!! Arghhh!!
The Acne dress will be perfect for the wedding and I think the color will photograph beautifully! Love the travel outfit. Layering! Perfect solution. Have fun!
Kirsten, if you’re here to be mean, you’re clearly in the wrong place. We are a supportive community.
Clearly, Kirsten is out of place here. She sounds like a first year psychology student, trying out new terms – and failing the class.
I hate packing! I usually just throw in a heap of black garments and figure at least everything will ‘match’ lol.
So glad you are wearing the Acne dress to the wedding. Not only is it a fabulous dress but it looks even more fab on you. Have a great time.
Kirsten, since you seem to be such a keen student of psychology, you should be familiar with the general human desire to make a good first impression, but I guess you missed that lecture. I edit abnormal psychology textbooks so I’m really surprised that I missed diagnosing Grechen with a disorder. And here I thought she was one of the nicest, most well-adjusted people on the Internet! Shame on me. I can redeem myself, however, by taking a stab at diagnosing you. I’d say you exhibit some narcissistic tendencies, with a bit of sociopathy mixed in for good measure. Anyway, good luck with the codes that Grechen provides as a free public service. You certainly have your priorities straight: saving money is so much more important than being nice to strangers.
haha! well…thanks for stopping by to make that point.
as far as i know i don’t have a disorder and as far as being self-centered, it IS my blog π
ha! no james perse, but i brought plenty with me!!
oh! what a deal!! i’m loving JP’s pants lately, i never really gave them a try until recently, but they’re good…
it was the perfect dress for the wedding; i’m glad i wore it! didn’t get any pictures in it though, maybe when the wedding pictures come back there will be some, but i wasn’t going around taking selfies at a wedding π
what a way to come back from my little “vacation!” π
Perfect. Period!
I don’t think Kirsten will be returning. She’s probably locked up somewhere in a psych ward, bemoaning all of the good deals she’s missing.
Laurel, that really made me laugh out loud.
You look great. I love simple sets. I really like your style.
Greetings from Poland.
I have a question – have you experienced any shrinkage with the seed stitch? I’m waffling between sizes in my Everlane cart for the seed stitch raglan and I think I could get away with a small, as long as there isn’t any shrinkage.
no, i didn’t notice any shrinkage – it does sort of “loosen” up a little around the bottom hem though after washing (not drying!) though.
