Play Comme des Garcons X Converse sneakers | many years old
It rained most of the last two days, so these were the best outfit pictures I could get. And anyway, if you don’t follow me on instagram, you can get a peek of my office lately, which I’m very excited about 🙂
I’m also over the moon about the turn the weather has taken lately; it was cool enough yesterday (only got up to about 70 degrees) to wear a sweatshirt. YAY! And it rained off and on, so I wore my rain shoes: Comme des Garcons PLAY x Converse sneakers. I don’t wear these much other than when it’s raining because I don’t find them very comfortable, or like how high they come up on my feet. It’s sad really, because I love them…that little heart.
Ah, sneakers. I love sneakers, and wear them often when it’s not 100 degrees, but only one single pair is my most comfortable: my Vince blair sneakers in Woodsmoke. I have two pairs of Vince sneakers and they are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn (size down 1/2 size). My oldest pair is 4 years old (black, haircalf and with a slight platform) and looking pretty ragged, also stretched out quite a bit so they’re not as comfortable as they used to be, but I wear them still. They will need phasing out this fall though – and I am considering a new pair of Vince’s velvet sneakers. I tried on the oxblood pair recently and they are GORGEOUS, also fitting the same as the other blair sneakers, a half size big.
This burgundy velvet superga pair is also super cool, but I’m not sure the comfort level on these, and I’m afraid the color will be more purple than burgundy in real life. I also still love this velcro white pair of supergas…I know a lot of you own superga sneakers, what do you think of them? How do they fit? are they comfortable??
What are your favorite sneakers? How often do you wear them?
I’ve had a pair of supergas for 3 years and they are the most comfortable shoes I own! Firm but really shock-absorbent sole, and mine are leather so they serve as my rain shoes. Highly recommend!
Superga sneakers didn’t work for me, but it will just depend on your foot shape. I found the toe area way too flat so it was squishing down on the top of my big toe painfully and was never able to break in. The size was definitely big enough in length and width, so I guess Supergas just aren’t meant for me!
thanks clare! did you take your “normal” size?
yep – I’m a solid 8.5 and that size worked perfectly!
I love the Vince sneakers in darksmoke!
I tried a pair of superga slip-on flats, and they are okay. The sole is decently thick but the toe box is too small – which is a perpetual problem for me, because my big toe curves up and ALWAYS digs into the top of the toe box. I haven’t tried regular supergas though. I do keep the slip-ons around as my “grungy” shoes, like when I need to work in the yard or I’m just running to the store.
My favorite sneakers are UNNOWN. I have the Veronica loafer and now the Renee chukka in leather (those come in suede as well). I love them! The loafers took a bit of breaking in since they are leather, but it was so worth it. My big toe is visible on top, but it doesn’t hurt since the leather has stretched around it. After that initial break-in period of about 1-2 weeks, they are the most comfortable shoes I own and I wear them all the time. I recently wore them to a conference in Vegas, and it was so great to not have hurting feet at the end of the day, with all the walking I did.
I’m currently breaking in the chukkas, it is now finally cool enough to wear them! I loved the loafers so much that I wanted another pair of something, but I wanted a shoe that would work as an ankle boot…I’ve tried lots of ankle boots and they just never suit me. The chukkas work great for my style.
I got a 7 in these – they only come in whole sizes – I typically wear a 7.5 and sometimes an 8, but found that the loafers stretched quite a bit.
I dig this outfit sooooo much! I wish I could find jeans that looked good on me. This might be the year……
Sneakers are my favorite thing to wear, and I too struggle a little with them. My favorites, always and forever, are slip on Vans. I can wear them with any little no-show sock, they come in a million colors/styles, and once they are broken in, they mold to your feet and are the most comfy things EVER. I also recently got a pait of Velco, slip on black Toms that are VERY different from their usual style and I absolutely love them. I wear them everywhere and all the time right now. Basically my faves.
I love the Vince Blairs. I have a narrow foot and have never been able to wear slip ons until these! They are the best. I have two pairs now and love them both. I also have a pair of Supergas. I like them but don’t reach for them very often. They are a very heavy shoe. Comfortable but very heavy. My problem with white sneakers is that I also only like them when they’re really white so I find myself saving them. Sweatshirt looks great. Very glad it’s feeling like fall. Have you ever heard of this company: https://tradlands.com/. They look like they have nice, sustainable things also. Hope you’re having a good day.
I only have one pair of sneakers & they are Superga. They are very comfortable, but yes, a bit heavy. I was surprised at that when I first bought them, but it doesn’t bother me. When I travel and I’m walking all day, I choose to wear these.
They are true to size for me. I wear a 41 euro in all brands, and that worked for me with these.
Thanks for finding those velvet Supergas. Cute! I think I like the Vince ones more, but they cost more (of course!). I’m glad to hear the Vince ones run big, as it seems they stop at a size 10, and the euro 41 is a 10-10.5. They might work for me. Decisions, decisions.
I love the look of the Vince sneakers but I usually wear orthotics with my shoes.
For those of you who own Vince sneakers: Can they be worn with custom orthotics?
Thanks!
I love sneakers too! I probably wear them about 5-6 days a week as long as it isn’t too hot or too cold/snowy (I take full advantage of my office’s business casual dress code and thankfully no one has ever mentioned my sneakers as long as the rest of me looks put together). My most worn and comfortable sneakers are my leather perforated slip on Vans and my Nike Pegasus Air trainers. No matter what shoe I’m wearing, I still do have to wear my Dr. Scholl’s inserts to avoid heel pain though. My problem with most slip on sneakers is that the toe box is too tight and they rub against my pinky toes AND I have a high arch so the top of the shoe is always painfully tight across the top of my foot. I got these beautiful Longchamp sneaker/moccasin hybrids (http://us.longchamp.com/shoes/penelope-fantaisie/moccasins-8144seq?sku=4767) in Paris last month and both of these issues are popping up with breaking them in right now. Has anyone tried the Acne Adriana sneakers with the smiley face plaque on the laces? I’m curious to know any reviews. I’d love to expand my sneaker collection without buying more Nike or Vans (very uneasy about their labor practices).
I just bought a pair of the Chuck II’s (Converse Chuck Taylor hightops with Nike soles) and they are SUPER comfortable! They have a mesh metallic finish which comes in several colors and are also available as lowtops.
I have “high volume” feet–a little bit wide, high arch, big toes–plus I broke my ankle last year and had surgery, so my feet are quite fussy at the moment. I do wear sneakers a lot these days–I have 2 pair of Nike frees, a pair of gray suede Pumas, Nike running shoes, Sauconys, and the Chucks. Though I actually think the most comfortable shoes for me are booties–bootie weather will be here soon in NY!
Hi Grechen
My favorite sneakers are the nike high top wedge –
I have them in a dark teal and burgundy I wear them with jeans and wool trousers
cant wait to wear them on the reg as we say, in NY. I want another pair maybe in khaki or grey.
Love your rainy day outfit, sweatshirts eh, on me
Best, Gena
I have a pair of two year-old Nike Airs for working out and fairly new Converse low-tops (lace up) for kicking around. When the time comes (probably sooner than later) I’d like to replace the Nikes with New Balance or something less conflict-y (can we make that a word?). I just love the look of Converse and with an insole they’re perfectly comfortable for me.
i can’t say for sure, but i think orthotics would work well with the vince shoes, especially since they run a little big…
haha. i like that word, conflict-y 🙂
i’d like to switch to new balance for my “running/walking” shoes when they need replacing – i actually just created an all pink version of these: http://www.newbalance.com/pd/nb1-574/US574-BLANK.html#US574/BXB01A21C11,BXB02A21C11,BXB05A02C11,BXB06A02C11,BXB07A02C11,BXB08A02C11,BXB09A02C11,BXB10A02C11,BXB11A02C11,BXB03A21C11,BXB12A19C11,BXB15A05C11,BXB04A03B58,BXB14A08C02,BXB16A07B29,LXB13A08A23,RXB13A08A23/g:undefined/s:undefined/w:undefined/q:1 (maybe you can see my customizations?)
i love high tops! but they’re no good on me 🙁
yay for bootie weather!! jealous of your cooler weather in NYC…
although it’s coming here, in the evenings and early mornings anyway!!
Yep! I can see it! I need a more black/gray/navy-or-maybe-purple-y (as long as we’re inventing words) version!
My Nikes are two year-old because other than yoga my workouts consist of walking or home body-weight workouts.
My husband has started a new health/fitness kick and my competitive nature has prompted me to keep up. He’s lost a bunch of weight. I’m down five pounds. I’ll take it!
i love those acne sneakers, but haven’t tried them. i’d be leary of the patent version i guess, not sure how much they breathe, or give, but i love the colors!!
those longchamp sneakers/moccs are SO GOOD!!
i guess that’s why i’ll probably stick with vince sneakers for now, since i know they fit and require no breaking in…i’m nervous about breaking in shoes and shoes that don’t fit right. i HATE that.
yay!! that’s wonderful! (and men lose weight faster than women…i think that’s an actual fact – whenever my husband and i tried to get healthier together, he would lose weight super fast. annoying…)
i love all the tonal shoes lately, so i just stuck with all pink. MAN, i want them now!! but i’ve never tried new balance, and i wonder if they’re customized if they’re final sale. it doesn’t say anywhere yet…
Well, my son seems to like his NB. But he’s 9 and as long as I’m not asking him to wear any shoes other than sneakers he’s happy. So maybe not the best testimonial…
haha!! i know people love them, i should probably at least try on a pair in person before getting a custom pair…
I got my Vince Blairs on your recommendation and I adore them. Can’t recommend them enough. Look great, feel great.
Hmm. If they are going to stop making them maybe I should buy an extra pair now…
they better not stop making them!!!! did i imply that accidentally? or did you hear something??
I misread your post. I will stand down:).
haha. you scared me!! 🙂
you have a pair of golden goose sneakers though, right? how do you find them? comfortable, WAY too expensive for what they are? can you talk me out of my obsession for a pair??
Vans black perforated leather slip-ons, which hit my sore Achilles’ tendon, but look so great with everything. White Chuck Taylor Converse, Black and white super-lightweight Nike sneakers, and a new pair of Adidas Stan Smith’s…white with orange squiggles. I guess more is better?!
