Okay…so here it is. The “boyfriend” knit cardigan that is actually the men’s chunky knit cardigan re-branded (sort of) for women. I’m still rather disappointed that Everlane wasn’t more up-front about what they did with this cardigan (telling us it was the men’s version on the site), but I do understand WHY they decided to offer it on the women’s side for those of us who didn’t like the fit of the women’s version.
Overall, I’m pleased with it, and write this down because I don’t say this often (ever), but it might be just a bit TOO warm. Whoa. Yes, it’s VERY heavy (weight-wise, not just the fabric texture), soft, comfortable, and warm. I wore it yesterday and was generally comfortable in it, but might have been a tad warm inside. Not enough that I wouldn’t wear it. But just FYI.
I REALLY like the fit of it, but it could be slouchier honestly. I was expecting it to be bigger and longer on me, and it’s really not. I still like it, but it doesn’t fit like I was expecting it to. I had ordered the women’s medium and thought it was too small, especially around my hips, which isn’t the case with the men’s version. And the sleeves are long, but not too long, and they’re sort of tapered/ribbed at the bottom so they’re easy to push up, and they STAY there, which I appreciate.

So. I do really like the cardigan, and recommend it when it comes back in stock, but if you want something that’s REALLY slouchy/oversized, then I would recommend sizing up, even in the men’s version. This is my experience, though, with my hips, so if you have more of a straight body type, your regular size in the men’s might be okay…
Who else ordered this? What do you think?
I have it in grey in a size Large, and it is really long on me. I do like it and it’s definitely warm for Texas. It’s a perfect grandpa-style sweater.
I just think you should know….. you look SUPER smart in this picture! Seriously, you look like some amazing author or a professor or something. It’s a good look for you 🙂
It’s great looking, and very classic, but not drapey enough for me. I think I require more of the “slouch” factor. And you saved me from making an expensive mistake by telling us it’s super-warm. I couldn’t deal with it!
Looks great on you Grechen! Glad the cut worked out so nicely for you!
Although I had not previously heard of Everlane, I’ve been reading your posts about their merchandise for several months. They have also been mentioned in several threads on buying quality basics on Debbie Roes’ blog. Just wanted to report that I decided to order a silk shirt from them this week, and was initially disappointed that the color I wanted was sold out. WhenI emailed their support team for some clarification on sizing, and to find out if my preferred color would be back in stock, I could not have been more impressed with the service I received. I got the initial form email acknowledging my inquiry when I first sent it (during evening hours) but within twelve hours was contacted by an Everlane customer service rep – a real person named Andrew! His email to me answered all my questions, had some additional resources for determining sizes, and even included links to the piece I wanted in the color I was seeking. Apparently when there are only a few left they pull them off the website, but they may still exist in some virtual closet. Thought I’d share this in case any other potential Everlane customers are on the fence. It’s so hard to find good customer service these days, and I was completely in awe of the very personalized and professional assistance I received. I have ordered two of the silk shirts and hope to be a repeat customer, as I signed up for pre-sale on some spring items. Thanks for spreading the word on this company – I probably would never have noticed them if you weren’t wearing some of their pieces regularly!
oh, i love this!!! i have had THE BEST customer service from Everlane, consistently, and even from people who have no idea who i am. not that i am somebody, but they have no idea i work with the company sometimes, and am a blogger. they’re just always amazingly helpful and attentive.
so nice to hear this, and i’m so glad you’re a convert! honestly some things are misses, but even so, they are very good about returns also, so i’m never concerned about sending anything back that i don’t love.
I have this sweater too. I was wearing it during the New York winter, and even I would agree that it’s very warm! I bought the one listed in the women’s section, size large. It’s big enough that I was wondering if I should have bought the medium, but according the sizing on their website, since my bust is a size 36 I’m a large. The only thing I found is that it pills something terrible. Did you find that as well?
yes, it pills like crazy, but in the black, it’s not too noticeable. i don’t mind it too much, i think it’s inevitable!
