Everlane Cropped Cashmere sweater | size small (purchased with credits from Everlane)
Kit & Ace Mulberry pants
Everlane Modern Loafer | gift for review from Everlane
As promised…some shots of my new Everlane cashmere cropped sweater. It turns out it was pretty cool this weekend, so I was able to wear it. Funny how that works isn’t it? It’s hot, and then all of a sudden it’s cold. Of course, once it gets cold here in the mornings I have a hard time warming up unless I’m in the sun, so I’ll be cold basically until March. Thank goodness for sweaters…
Anyway, this, I think, is my favorite way to wear this sweater. I’m going to show you other ways this week, too, but in my opinion, this sweater just fits best with a super high-waisted pair of pants (here’s another look at these Kit & Ace pants). And as you’ll see this week, it’s not as easy to layer over t-shirts, blouses, as it looks. I suppose if I got a medium, it would layer better, but the small is not drapey enough or doesn’t fall away enough from my body to look as “effortlessly” layered as I’d like.
I mentioned last week that I thought about sending this one back to get the burgundy sweater instead, but I’ve decided against that. I’m also not going to buy it in ADDITION to the black. Yes, it’s still my knee-jerk reaction when I find something I love to want to buy it in EVERY color, but I’ve learned, through a lot of restraint, that I don’t need to do that. I have enough.
Not the best shot, but here you can see how it curves down around the sides:
Did anyone else get an Everlane cropped cashmere sweater? What did you think of it? For reference, I’m about 5’3″ and wear a size 28-29 in denim.
I love this look on you! Recently I’ve been very taken by the cropped sweater/trouser combination. The styling on the Everlane site doesn’t really appeal to me, but seeing this modeled on more petite proportions makes it tempting.
How do you think the cashmere compares to previous years?
I bought the cropped cashmere pullover in charcoal and I love it. I have been wearing it with their slouchy wide leg trousers. I am also having trouble with layering, but it works well over a v-neck tee that I own. I bought the medium because I wanted a more relaxed fit.
thanks kimberly – i feel like the cashmere is about the same as last season – maybe a little more “refined” than previous years in terms of the design? like it’s evolved a bit…a few details on the cardigan are a bit different, more luxurious…
oh, i bet it’s so nice with wide leg trousers…
I really like the cropped sweater!!
And thanks for the uncrossed leg pose – you look great and it’s way easier to get an idea of what the outfit looks like. The pants look awesome. =)
The sweater looks very nice on you. I noticed that it’s sleeves aren’t exactly narrow, so sizing up for a more swingy look could make the sleeves look too bulky and they are just right now.
you’re absolutely right. and they’d be WAAY too long. as it is , they’re pretty long on me…
thanks mimi, and you’re welcome 🙂
Love how you styled the sweater, & look forward to seeing other outfit ideas from you. I also opted for the black version & am struggling with how to style it. I’ve been trying mostly high-contrast pairings (e.g., light-wash jeans), but that makes the sweater look more boxy than I’d like. A lower-contrast pairing like your dark trousers might give a sleeker look. Thanks for the idea!
You look so polished and slim!
I’m looking for inspiration for an outfit I can give a presentation in later this week – this is perfect.
I concur. I also love this look on you. I am only 5 feet, over 60, with a similar build. Some clothes tend to be too voluminous. At this stage of my life, taking care of grandsons, I want comfort, but this closer to the body style, really flatters you. I really enjoy your blog and honestly.
That should be “honesty” ?
I really like this outfit on you–you look great! I’m eyeing those pants and think they’d look great with these ankle boots I just bought. I can never resist an nice charcoal grey trouser!
I loved this look when I saw your pic on instagram. I think this outfit shows off your shape quite nicely .. a bit more form fitting without being tight .. plus the all black .. very chic!
Monica.
dawn, the pants are wonderful. honestly, they look BEST on me with a shirt tucked in, or something cropped, otherwise, they look rather dumpy, but they are ridiculously comfortable, and so practical for everyday life. they’d be lovely with ankle boots.
thank you so much marilyn – i love this look too, it’s a bit different for me, but something perhaps i could get used to?
Hi I am very new to everlane and am wanting to dive in and buy some pieces now that they finally ship to Canada! I came upong your blog and was wonderign if you could steer me in a direction of “must-haves” to start my collection/addiction.
I KNEW this would be great on you, and it IS! I think black was the right decision and size Small, for sure. Great!!!
Mine hasn’t arrived yet but seeing the small on you really makes me regret ordering the medium. Oh well, I’ll try it and see. It’s a great look on you with those pants (which fit you really, really well, if I might say).
hi Chelsey – i would recommend first, looking through this category of posts and reading the comments: http://grechenscloset.com/category/everlane-reviews/ – also this post is very good: http://grechenscloset.com/everlane-update/
honestly, i feel like everlane does cashmere very well, i always like their cashmere, and i have had very good luck with their ryan tanks (although others haven’t) and u-neck tees. people LOVE their silk blouses, and i think the “classic” style fits best, i have had issues with their silk not fitting my hips and being too big up top.
if you can elaborate a bit more on your lifestyle, size and body type, perhaps we can all give you some more recommendations for where to start? hope that helps a little!!
So I am a mom of two active boys…so I am really looking to find pieces that will work everyday as a mom and also able to style up for adult social time as well. I am about 5’6 130lbs athletic ish build.. I find myself wearing jeans a lot. I live in northern Alberta Canada so we have winter for a long time! I want to learn more about layering and really want to have more of a capsule type wardrobe with easy choices to dress up or dress casually…does that help1?
oh and any help with sizing would be awesome…I have no idea what size I would be…the videos with the really tall and super skinny models doesn’t help one bit!
