This is a tease, I know, because the Everlane chunky turtleneck tunic is not available right now (get on the waitlist – I did!), but seriously. It’s really good. Jen mentioned it in a comment on my post about sending back the cardigan I got, and I became intrigued. It had already sold out by then, but I got on the waitlist and managed to get it before Thanksgiving.
First thing – how did I NOT appreciate sleeveless (or at least shorter sleeve) sweaters before now? I have a new found love for them, because they’re PERFECT for adding warmth and layers without bulk under a cardigan or a jacket. BRILLIANT. Honestly, I don’t know how I made it 42 years without understanding this. Never too late, though, I always say.
Second – it is WARM. And soft. I wore this on thanksgiving with jeans over my T by Alexander Wang long sleeve shirt and was nicely warm without overheating from all the PEOPLE. And I managed not to spill anything on myself. Bonus.
Again, though, the real beauty of this sweater is that I can wear it under my camel hair jacket, as seen above, without getting all itchy. (yay!) I’ve also worn it under my black drapey Lululemon cotton/cashmere cardigan, and as I mentioned, over a long-sleeve shirt. I don’t really like the cap-sleeves on me; they’re sort of a weird length, and accentuate my thicker arms, so I don’t wear it as an outer layer as much as I would have if it had been truly sleeveless, but it’s really more practical for me layered underneath anyway.
I’m not totally comfortable wearing this with leggings, although it does sufficiently cover my ass. But just barely. I’d wear it with my SoLow skirted leggings or if I add a longer layer underneath it, but for me, it’s not QUITE long enough to wear with leggings comfortably. It’s probably my ass…it sticks out a little š It wouldn’t hurt to size up if you do want it to be a little longer, I don’t think it would come off as TOO big.
I know some of you guys bought this as well, what do you think? how do you wear it?
I just can’t get over how great you look in the Brooks Brothers camel. I NEVER would have guessed.
haha! i know, right? i really love it… thanks lisa š
Cute look!!!!!!!!!
I thought about ordering this but I’m not completely convinced about how practical it would be (although you do make a good case for it). Love the outfit!
I see this as a dressier outfit for you since it’s more structured…maybe a “go to meetings” ensemble or even interview appropriate with non-jeans. You look great!
I was thinking it had more of a “chunky knit” look to it, so probably not for me…I need a little bit of weird with my tops! (And wool, so…)
*An aside: I returned a whole pile of clothes that I had ordered on whim. Keeping the White and Warren cashmere sweater due to Gilt’s DUMB non-return policy ( and my stupidity for not noticing!)
This is a great look! I sort of like the idea of no sleeves too. Great for layering under the blazer, or you could wear a long sleeve Tee or Oxford underneath it. CUTE!
Hi Gretchen, I started reading your site because of all the great everlane reviews and wanted to say that I love ’em! I noticed that you have quite a few of their cashmere pieces and am wondering how you care fro them. They say dry clean and I emailed everlane and they stuck by that recommendations (and forgive me if you’ve answered this in the past). I really want to order one of the cashmere sweaters but loath to buy anything that requires dry cleaning. Thanks!
Gretchen – I just have to write and tell you that I am thrilled to find your website! I am an Everlane lover as well but have had a hard time finding good reviews of their clothing (especially about size.. my goodness! I range from a size xs to large with them and never know what to order!). I find your honesty and consistency refreshing, so thank you! Looking forward to following your posts, and I have to say that your style is so similar to mine (clogs, James Perse, etc!) that I can’t wait to see what you write next. Thank you!
Cute outfit! I’ll join in and say the blazer looks great on you. I love the idea of blazers and think they add polish to any outfit, but I wear them very rarely. Here in the northeast, there are about two weeks out of the year when they work as outerwear, and I hate stuffing them under a coat. My office is pretty much anything-goes, so I don’t need them for work. This look is inspiring though. I had put myself on the waitlist for this turtleneck after getting the long-sleeve chunky pullover. I’m really pleased with it and I think Everlane might be hitting a stride. The quality and design touches of the chunky raglan put it in a different realm for me than other Items I’ve tried (and mostly returned). The price is outstanding for such a substantial merino piece. Grechen, I know you said you’re not likely to wear it this way, but I’ll bet the turtleneck looks amazing on you without the jacket as well. I’d love to see it that way too (hint-hint).
Ah! I can’t believe I spelled your name wrong. My sister’s name is Gretchen with the “t” so I just assumed. Sorry about that!
haha! no problem, you’re allowed one pass š
it’s hard to get used to…spelling gretchen without a t, i know!
thank you so much ella!!! i look forward to interacting with you more š
thank you š
i rarely wear blazers either, but for some reason, i really love this one. weird.
now you’re making me interested in the pullover…i wondered about the neckline though, i generally don’t like a very open neckline for winter. how have you found it? i do love the quality of the wool pieces, very much, actually…
i’ll wear it this week without the blazer just for you š it’ll be warmer this week anyway!
hi marie – sorry for my late reply!!
anything that requires dry cleaning i do with dryel in my dryer at home, and i’ve found it works nicely. or i just spray it lightly with febreeze, to freshen it up a bit. i have washed my inhabit cashmere in the past in a bag in cold water on delicate cycle, then laid out to dry, but that’s too much work for me most of the time – although i found it worked well too!! now, i exclusively use the dryel and have been pleased with it.
i know a lot of people swear by hand washing their cashmere, and recommend the laundress detergent for that, so that’s an alternative to dry cleaning. but then, of course, if you have any “quality” issues with the sweaters you don’t have any recourse…but honestly, i see no reason why that should harm them
yeah, i don’t wear this everyday š
but for non-costco days, it works!!
no, it’s not really a very chunky knit LOOK, although it is a thicker knit, if that makes sense. i was hoping for a fisherman sweater or something along those lines actually, but this is not it!
yay for returning! i haven’t ordered anything from gilt in so long, i don’t even remember their return policy.
thank you!
thanks angela! as i said, i was definitely not sure about this at first, but i’ve come to really appreciate it. and the price is really good…
Their return policy varies by item…some are fully returnable, some returnable for Gilt credit only, and some final sale.
