I’ve had this Everlane cashmere turtleneck for a few weeks and have worn it a hand-full of times; I put it on and never want to take it off. I ordered a medium because I wanted it to be loose and long, and as you can see, it is. The sleeves are long, the body is long on me, almost tunic length, but it’s still rather streamlined, which gives it a nice shape; still slim.
Oh, and I read this article over the weekend about Linda Rodin:
Do you wear much makeup?
Just lipstick. I wear hot colors. My mother would drive us to school in her nightgown, and I remember her backing out of the driveway while putting lipstick on. Now I get it. I feel so naked without it. I wore eye makeup in the ’60s and ’70s. Now and then I’ll put on clumpy Maybelline mascara, which I love.
This particular question spoke to me, mostly because 1. I am out of mascara and am kind of tired of spending $30 on it and 2. I got this amazing Lipstick Queen lipstick a few weeks ago and don’t wear it as often as I should. Also, it sort of goes without saying, but if it’s good enough for Linda Rodin, it’s good enough for me – she looks so confident, comfortable, and happy. Of course, she probably slathers on her Olio lusso like it’s going out of style…
Anyway, all weekend, I wore only lipstick and a little mascara. No makeup. I don’t wear much makeup anyway, only Amore Pacific CC cream, when I do, but I still felt sort of free-er. Like Linda herself gave me permission to let go. I don’t need much, and I’ve always been happier with my more “natural” (lazy, maybe?) look. But I do appreciate the sophistication color on my lips gives me. I may start to get used to it…over the years, I’ve tried to wear color on my lips, but have never felt very comfortable doing it. Now, I will just do it; fake it till you make it. (that was my lesson from meditation this morning, interestingly enough..)
I want to add a note here on the new chunky knit – as I mentioned, Everlane sent me a new black chunky knit cardigan to review since I was a little disappointed in how much last year’s version pilled. It got very cold here over the weekend, so I basically wore it the entire weekend except yesterday during the day, when I wore the cashmere turtleneck. It’s too early to tell if it will pill, but I can say that so far absolutely LOVE It. I like it much better than last year’s, it does not have a shawl collar, so I need to wear a scarf to cover my neck, but that gives it a much more minimal look, instead of the “grandpa cardigan” look of last year’s. It’s also more boxy, which gives it an interesting shape – again, less like you’re wearing your grandfather’s sweater, and more like you’re wearing an architectural, interesting, minimal, cozy black cardigan.
I’ll try to get a picture of it sometime this week, but it’ll be a busy one, so I can’t guarantee anything! Hope you have a beautiful week planned!!
I like the length! They look shorter on the website. Now I wish I had pulled the trigger earlier because the camel color is sold out! I may have missed it but have you posted a pic with the black chunky knit cardigan yet? I’m probably only going to buy one Everlane sweater this year and I am torn, especially since they posted sneak peeks of some really nice new stuff coming soon.
Super disappointed this morning when I took my grey chunky knit from last year out of storage and it had a huge hole in it! I’m wearing a sweater from Madewell that’s three years old and no holes. I emailed them to see what they have to say about how specifically the quality of the chunky knits improved this year. That shouldn’t happen in less than a year, not to mention how bad those sweaters pilled.
Oh, my no .. I can’t imagine just wearing lipstick and no other makeup except for mascara. My skin is just too uneven and a bit red, so I think I’d look a bit funny .. lol,
Once you get to Ms. Rodin’s age – anything goes.
Monica.
my skin is uneven and red too, but i’ve not found anything i like that really evens it out and/or covers it up without feeling heavy or chemical-y, so i’m just going with it 😉
i haven’t posted a picture with the new chunky cardigan yet. hopefully this week sometime – i’m really intrigued by the marled sweaters and the donegal cashmere, so i’d be inclined to tell you to wait for a bit before buying anything.
that’s odd that your sweater has a hole in it, how could that have happened? mine pilled, but is otherwise in great shape (as much as it can be with all the pilling…)
Another hardly-any-makeup person here. Only moisturizer, blush, and a dusting of the magic Tarte Smooth Operator. I had bad skin when I was younger and after things improved, nothing felt more liberating than skipping the foundation.
I wouldn’t leave the house without blush, though. I use half a dozen ones in rotation – it’s kind of my lipstick. I would love to wear lipstick, but for some reason I still feel like playing dress up as a child when I do 😉 But I’m working on that 😉
i feel like that too alex! like i’m playing dress-up.
i don’t always do blush because my cheeks are already red – BUT i do notice when i swipe a little nars orgasm on my cheeks, i look a little more “awake” – lol
I’m salivating over that glimpse of donegal cashmere!
HI Grechen – sorry – switching topics (and do love the outfit reviews you do – so helpful for ordering). When you have time, will you do a post on the new Elizabeth Suzann holiday collection? And solicit more reviews from people who have ordered/are wearing her clothes?
Just today, I was thinking about how my foundation makeup has become perhaps more of a bother than it’s worth. Even when I use a professional grade setting spray, it still rubs off on my coat collar, settles in wrinkles and dry patches on my skin, etc.
Also, recently I’ve noticed that whenever I like someone’s makeup look, the person is always wearing red or berry-colored lipstick. So I’ve been wanting to start wearing more red lipstick. But I feel very self-conscious wearing bold colors! I should probably just fake it ’til I make it, too.
no problem. will do. hopefully tomorrow?
Looooove this! Now I want a cashmere sweater…in particular, this one….but I know I’d sweat like crazy, so…
I’ve got the same “Medieval” lipstick by Lipstick Queen, but I haven’t worn it in awhile. I’ll have to pull it out again, if I can find it amongst my 352 million other lipsticks! I’m an addict, I know. But it’s so much fun! (And yes, I have a natural look!)
Hi Grechen! Love your blog!
On the subject of mascaras…I always, always buy drugstore brands. Unlike a bright lipstick, I use mascara far too often to justify buying something fancy. It also goes bad so quickly–often faster than one can use it–which is why it starts to get gross and clumpy even when there is half a tube left. Covergirl lashblast is really great and about $10 a pop!
Also, I wanted to ask, what leggings are you wearing in this post?
thanks chris!!
i’m wearing old HELMUT helmut lang leggings -similar to the “reflex” leggings by helmut lang (http://www.6pm.com/helmut-lang-reflex-legging-uniform-blue?zhlfid=139&kpid=35107437) which are sold out in black pretty much…
