Yesterday I had my glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes, and am happy to report that I’m clear – no gestational diabetes (I was really anxious about this test; I feel like I’ve eaten nothing but candy and cookies the last few months…). I do have low iron though, so I’m adding an iron supplement to my already full vitamin regimen. I have to set all the stuff I take out on a small plate in the morning so I remember to take them everyday, and even then sometimes I forget. (I take a prenatal vitamin 3x a day, probiotics, and now iron)
I’ve also gained 20 pounds so far (I’m just about 27 weeks). I feel like that’s okay, and my doctor does too. Since I had my little meltdown last week about gaining weight/getting dressed, I’ve really come to terms with my body’s changes, and am starting to embrace them. The bump is “solidifying” a little bit LOL and becoming more round, which I sort of like? I definitely look/feel pregnant now, instead of just like I’m gaining weight and I’m getting used to moving through the world carrying a little being inside.
Anyway, I wish body image and worrying about weight wasn’t even a thing, especially during pregnancy, but it is part of my history and character, so something I have to deal with when it comes up. Thank you for listening and sharing your own stories.
I just want to end with a note about my outfit, lest we forget. haha. Entireworld sent me a package of a few things months ago when I was newly pregnant and I haven’t been able to wear much. This top is sold out now, unfortunately, but I wore it for the first time yesterday and found it very versatile. It’s very very lightweight, so great for 80+ degrees, and perfectly flowy and easy to wear (I can layer it over a tank dress too).
I have quite a few Entireworld pieces by now, some I’ve purchased on my own and others were sent to me. My two favorite items are the recycled cotton tiny tee, which isn’t available anymore, the tiny tee is only available in organic cotton, and the organic cotton blend sweatpants. I still wear the sweatpants around the house and in the mornings (they’re medium) and layer the tiny tee under longer tees.
And as I was looking through the site today, I noticed that they’re launching dresses, both shirt and tank styles, on May 14th. They’ll probably be organic cotton, and they come in some amazing colors (Entireworld doesn’t do neutral…), so if you’re in the market for a crisp summer dress, I’d check them out.
Happy Tuesday!
I’m glad that you talked with your doc about the weight gain and you feel ok about it. My pregnancies were so similar in terms of weight gain, but my first and second babies were quite different sizes: 8 lbs 4 oz for #1 and #2 was only 6lbs 7 oz, which made her seem like a tiny doll! Everyone has their own experience, and we seem to find it gratifying to share our stories with one another – I guess because it was a big part of our lives.
You look so darned cute in that outfit! I love Entire World and I really wish that top wasn’t sold out!
I’m having such a hard time finding 100% cotton (forget organic – just cotton!) tank dresses – I was excited. Until I saw the spaghetti straps and size range. Ah well…The search goes on.
Pregnancy can bring out so many feelings around our bodies that we thought we’d put to bed – it’s hard! Be gentle with yourself- you’re doing great.
p.s. Sometimes sugar cravings indicate a need for extra protein – give it a try if it feels right.
