WEARING
AG Stevie Sateen ankle jeans (I exchanged the blue ones for these because they have more cotton in them, I like to feel like I’m “held” in – and the stretchy jeans stretch out too much…)
CP Shades shirt (not available)
Camper sandals
Jerome Dreyfuss momo bag (gifted by Forzieri to review, sold out in red, available in black, coral pink, gray)
As you read this, I’m en route to Orlando for a quick visit with my dad while my husband speaks at a conference. I’m trying a few new things with this trip: I’m NOT using my handbag as a carry-on this time, and I’m taking only ONE pair of shoes (besides my running shoes). I’m not normally a very light traveler, although I’d like to be, so I’m planning my outfits out VERY carefully this time, in hopes of not bringing things I don’t wear, and being efficient with what I DO bring. And I have GOT to start carrying a smaller bag regularly, so I’m using a big Banana Republic tote bag – mine is black – for my carry-on (I can slip the Momo inside for the plane) and I won’t have to carry around a huge bag while I’m in Florida.
Of course, I’ve been stressing for a week about what to bring, and what to wear on the plane. I finally settled on this outfit, which is very comfortable, but not my “normal” travel outfit. I wanted to wear my Vince flats because they’d keep my feet warmer on the plane, but I wouldn’t wear them in FL, so I decided to just wear these sandals and bring a pair of thick socks for the plane. I also usually wear a t-shirt and cashmere cardigan on the plane, but I think this will do fine, and when I get cold (because I always freeze), I’ll have my Virginia Johnson shawl to use as a blanket/scarf/cover-up.
I’m also bringing:
Everlane white t-shirt
Splendid 1×1 crew neck tee
Sweaty Betty harem skirt
Inhabit NY cotton cardigan in yellow (not available online anymore. This was my first Inhabit purchase ever 5 years ago, and it has been my WORKHORSE. I wear this ALL the time, and I have three more of the exact same cardigan, I just wear the yellow the most; the color is extremely versatile)
Splendid maxi skirt/dress in charcoal gray
For around the house/exercise:
H&M harem pants
Linen tee from H&M
Vogel10 built-in bra camis
flip flops for around the house
Running shoes
Sweaty Betty yoga capris – SO great
Hanes t-shirt
Only Hearts robe – this is the most wonderful robe, so soft and comfortable.
Hopefully that will take care of every contingency – anyway, my tiny Heys hardside carry on case is pretty full already, so there’s not much I can add. And I pared down as much as I could!!
I’ll let you know how I did on Wednesday when I come back home…
Thank you for this post! I’m off on a 2 week trip around the UK some of which involves a flight with ONLY carry-on and I’m really stressed about what to bring – I think it will be good for me though – I always over pack and then end up carrying around crap I didn’t need!

I LOVE posts about packing. I am trying to reform my overpacking ways. And especially I am trying to reform my terrible habit, after much careful planning and packing, of tossing in that *extra just in case* top, pair of shoes or whatever, at the last minute. I never need it and always rue having to carry it around.
That’s very pared-down, IMO. I also, always overpack. And it makes me mad, because I inevitably purchase something while I’m on vacation or visiting my daughters or parents, and then I have to JAM everything in my suitcase. Based on your list, Grechen, I’m going to come up with my own packing list for when I go to Chicago. And since I really have no idea how long I’m staying (the lure of a new granddaughter might cause me to overstay my welcome!), it’s going to take some serious planning. I love your travel outfit! But I think my feet would be cold, too! (darned planes!)
it was TOO pared down. i could have used another light cardigan, and i definitely needed to wear a completely different “travel outfit”: the jeans were great, although they attracted tons of lint, and i needed flat, closed shoes, a t-shirt and a cashmere pullover. my feet were pretty cold on the first leg of our flight – the shoes are so comfortable and really great to walk in, but my toes froze on the plane. even with my cp shades long-sleeve top and VJ shawl, i was frozen sold for the Austin/Houston flight. and in the houston airport during our layover. my travel outfit was so wrong….
oh! i do that too!!! i actually did it this time also, but just added my splendid leggings, which i won’t end up wearing at all…
i just dress based too much on emotion – what i feel like wearing at the moment – and if i don’t have what i “feel” like wearing, i am not happy!! i suppose as an adult, i should try to get over that though 🙂
