I don’t really like to wear ALL Black; I prefer black and white, or black and grey, or grey and black. I love black, so I’m not really sure why I don’t like to wear all black, all the time. I think it’s because I’m not that great at accessorizing? So an all black outfit just looks really boring on me LOL.
I do like all black when I can mix different textures and “shades” of black, because then it seems like they’re different colors almost. I felt pretty comfortable doing that for this outfit, since each piece is a different texture and/or weight, and I’m pleased with how it works. I can do black cashmere and black silk together too – I like that combination.
Do you do monochrome dressing? or do you always have to have more than one “color” in your outfits?
Oh, and PSA, FYI, or whatever: The Laundress Stain Solution is AMAZING. I haven’t met a stain yet that it doesn’t get out, besides underarm yellowing on white tees. Ugh. It’s a pro at oil stains though; I recommend it highly. Slowre is not only a consignment shop, it’s a laundry and tailor haha….
Happy Monday!!
I am so in agreement with the all black. Challenging but rewarding when done well. Sometimes U feel like it’s overpowering when I’m head to toe black. The texture is so important! I know some folks obsess over all their blacks matching, but I love that you treat them like different colors. I think that makes for a more interesting look.
I wear all black fairly often, and I don’t really care about matching the blacks…it’s too hard unless they are all the exact same cloth! I do like to mix textures though, like you said. I don’t really wear any accessories, so I also sometimes feel like all black is boring…but what I do to make it feel more interesting is interesting shoes. I’ve become really, really picky about my shoes as I get older, and I try to only spend my money on shoes that I love and are comfortable. I feel like shoes really make the outfit, especially for all black. I also like to wear unexpected shoes sometimes. The other day I was wearing some leggings pants and a tunic – very very basic, I’d usually wear sneakers with that, but instead I wore my engineer boots. I liked how it instantly made everything more edgy.
The one downside is all the hair from my yeti dog. SO MUCH HAIR.
I do a lot of monochrome dressing; lazy, perhaps?! I usually just assesorize with jewelry…though I guess it’s probably pretty minimal since my necklaces tend toward delicate. Rings, however, I can do big and interesting! And while I love all black, I’m finding that as I’ve gotten older is really washes me out. Will probably have to start buying more navy. Speaking of skin tone, your new hair color really makes your skin look pretty.
I wear all black on most days but in the form of a dress. It is a bit hard with pants/separates and can also feel blah after too many days in a row or in a month of a black top and pant. With a dress it doesn’t feel that way as most of my dresses have an interesting shape, there is no mixing the different shades of black (which sometimes doesn’t work) and my bare legs are helping to break up the all black look. I don’t wear white much although I agree that a white T can make all the difference in an outfit. I just feel bigger in white as I’m curvy on top and on bottom, I feel much more streamlined in black or charcoal. Also, I’m always thinking about what I will eat that day lol (I eat a lot of ramen!). Thanks for the tip on Laundress (how was that for a seamless transition?). I remember reading on a blog (or maybe heard it on a youtube video) that they always feel put together in an outfit that incorporates three colors (i.e. black pant with a black jacket, white T and cognac boots). I have very few outfits where I make that happen but agree when I have attempted it makes a difference.
I’m a New Yorker (albeit “adopted”) and its in our genes to wear all black! I still wear it when I want to feel especially put-together, or chic, or dressy. I don’t worry about my blacks matching, but I do tend to favor saturated blacks. And I guess I accessorize with makeup…I love a good red lip!
I am so into all black right now! I try to break it up with gray or even a pop of color, but I just love how clean and chic it looks. Also, my two favorite pairs of shoes are black, so it just makes things super easy.
