Who watched the new launch story on Elizabeth Suzann’s instagram yesterday? *raises hand* (it’s saved, so you can watch it anytime)
I was home and decided to watch in real-time, and thankyouverymuch, am now in love with all the new pieces. And, so funny, but I was wearing this outfit yesterday, and Liz was wearing the SAME SWEATER, just in a different color. I was sort of fangirling for a minute LOL.
Anyway, it was sunny and warmer yesterday, so it was a perfect day to wear these pants. I love them so much. They fit well, but might be a little big. They don’t really feel big, but I think I would have been just fine with the size 6. That’s the frustrating part about ordering from ES, well, one of the frustrating parts haha. It’s too much work to try multiple sizes and decide which one works. If I’d had the chance to try both sizes and compare, I might have chosen a different one. Oh well, I’m going to wear these anyway. Did I say how much I love them?
That said, I don’t think I would buy more cotton canvas. Except maybe the florence pants in cotton canvas. I don’t mind it, but I don’t love it as much as the silk, or linen; I think one pair of pants in cotton canvas is enough. It is warm though, and good for cooler weather.
Anyway. After seeing the new launch pieces yesterday, my plan for the year is all thrown out the window. No, not entirely, but I think I’d like to try the Andy trousers now instead of the Florence pants in linen. Or both. Ugh. I’m really interested in the Andy trousers in silk; they just look so amazing in silk.
And the Parabola dress?? I am in love with that dress. IT HAS SLEEVES. In navy linen, no less. Who am I?? Or ivory linen. Or rust silk.
Okay, enough dreaming. I can’t have it all, and remember I settled on one ES piece a quarter, so I still think I’ll be getting the linen florence pants this quarter – they are what I most want for spring. Or the linen andy trousers…they look SO GOOD!!!
Did anyone place an ES order yesterday? What did you decide on? Is anyone planning an order?
On a shopping hiatus for a while, but I have my eye on the Parabola dress in navy or black linen for spring / summer. And the Parabola top in linen in navy. And I like that new jacket too. But realistically, I’m getting one of the three at the most and not for a while.
I really like the way ES did this smaller rollout–much less overwhelming, and it makes you really take the time to appreciate the new items.
I love the Clyde culottes on you! The structure from the cotton canvas is really good. While I can’t buy any now, I FINALLY took a pair of wide-legged black crepe trousers to get them hemmed so I can actually wear them, so hoping those satisfy my desire for the Clyde culottes for a while. (Plus they are full length, so no cold ankle issues here!).
I watched the live stream too! It was so helpful to see the pieces on different models. I ordered the Andy trousers in navy linen and in moss silk. I like the canvas look on taller women but every time I’ve tried canvas ES pants (different styles) or skirts in person (at a meetup) they didn’t look good on me (5’2). The fabric is just too bulky and overwhelming, especially in the crotch…I’m going to wait to order a Harper jacket in case they come out with that green colour…wouldn’t that be nice!?
I also watched live. What a fun hour.
My wish list for spring is a flax jacket and black linen trousers.. was planning on Clyde Trench and Florence pants, but now I think I’ll order the Harper jacket and Andy trouser. Won’t order for a month, as I won’t be able to wear for work in my climate until April.
Wearing my black cotton canvas Ida Trench today over my dress. It was perfect this morning when it was 20F outside. Now it’s in the low 40’s and it’s too warm for me over my long sleeve wool EF dress, so it’s in the car and I’m going sans coat when in and out of offices.
I think I’m gonna save my pennies for some linen clydes in either the new rust or new green that she previewed (love both so much). I am returning the canvas florence pants I recently ordered, so I’ll have a bit of a credit to work with. They were a bit to dramatic in the canvas for me (wider leg than the clyde culotte), although in linen and silk they are my favorite!
PS. How are you finding the alpaca itch factor? Did you ever try the conditioner wash trick? I have a Lauren Manoogian sweater that’s alpaca and itchy, so I’d like to try it. The label says dry clean only, but…
Didn’t order anything yesterday. I would like a long sleeved top. I’m not sure about the cut of the Parabola. I think what I’d like is the Lara in mid-weight linen (which is not offered). The closest is the cotton poplin but I’m unsure about that fabric. Does anyone have it? Thought/feelings?
I ordered my first ES item! Not one of the newer releases but a Georgia dress in linen gauze (the charcoal). I opted to order the OS, instead of the petite size as I’d like the extra length and don’t mind the oversized fit (I’m not thin either). Crossing my fingers! I initially liked the Parabola but when I looked closer I felt it didn’t have the right shape for my shape/height, seemed kind of big all over vs an architectural shape.
Oh!!! Waiting anxiously to hear how you like it! I am very curious about the linen gauze. Yay!!
i am very interested to see what the new green will look like – i agree with her that the green clydes are a little more “green” than i’d like too! but i still love them…i would prefer a darker olive. linen clydes or linen andy’s in that green. WHOA. so good.
so, with my first lauren manoogian alpaca capote coat, it was unbearably itchy in the beginning so i washed it twice (on delicate using the laundress wool/cashmere shampoo) and laid it out to dry and it softened up nicely. also wearing helped. i wouldn’t be afraid of washing it on delicate with cold water though, i’ve done that with all my stuff with great success. except my ozma raw silk. ugh. but cashmere, wool, and alpaca, no problem!
Re your Capote Coat, I hope you don’t mind me asking, what was your overall thought on it? I’ve been thinking of getting one. ? Thx!! ?
What happened with the ozma raw silk when you washed it? I have a few of their raw silk pieces myself but have not washed them at home. didn’t they come out ok? Have you tried hand washing?
I loved it!! It was just really big on me and too hot for Texas. And it was heavy 😉
I have a romper by Ozma in raw silk and I washed it in the machine on cold water , delicates cycle and it’s now patchy and dry looking. I even soaked it just in water thinking it was soap residue but that didn’t help. I have washed my Elizabeth Suzann dress the same way with better success. So…at this point I think I would recommend-dry cleaning the ozma raw silk instead of doing it at home . Sadly. I feel like it’s ruined now or at least relegated to home use
I love my Charcoal gauze Harper Tunic and Long Sleeve Harper Tunic…however, I ordered a Georgia Dress in that fabric in OS (nicely oversized in Flax linen) and had to return it. The charcoal gauze fits much more closely and the gauze weave draws up a lot…fine in a Harper Tunic…but made the Georgia Dress too small for me.
What a shame about your Ozma raw silk romper! What color is it? Will you try taking it to the drycleaners? I’ve found that washing raw silk is tricky. It varies from brand to brand…my J+J Blank Canvas top in blush responds well to the delicate cycle but it becomes incredibly stiff when I hang it to dry. I’m terrified to throw it into the dryer. My Elizabeth Suzann raw silk (in ivory) pieces get softer and softer over time. My Miranda Bennett Everyday top–black raw silk–never looked right after the first wash. All linty. So frustrating.
I never should have watched that live story! Colette looked absolutely stunning in that outfit and I was instantly obsessed with the black linen Harper jacket. I do still plan on linen Florence pants in flax, and I have to say, I really liked how everyone wore the Andy pants in the video, even the canvas. I may eventually try them in navy linen.
Have you tried doing a vinegar rinse and steaming when damp? That’s how i wash silk crepe -otherwise the texture is stiff and rough- so I’m wondering if vinegar and steaming would help raw silk as well?
no! details please!! i’ve not had a problem at all washing silk crepe on delicate with gentle detergent and hanging to dry, but im interested in your vinegar/steaming method!
my romper is black. misa mentioned above a vinegar rinse and steam – i might try that before the dry cleaner.
i agree about the elizabeth suzann raw silk getting softer and softer. also the linen.
honestly at this point, i’m thinking it is probably best to dry clean raw silk 🙁 which makes me sad LOL – because i wouldn’t buy any more of it knowing that! but if i can get the spotting out of my ozma romper, i’ll be happy with that and my marlena midi ES dress – don’t need more than that!
i loved seeing all those pieces on the women there! was colette in the ivory silk parabola dress? it was so beautiful on her!!!
and i’m intrigued by the linen harper jacket but it just looks SO BIG on everyone. i’m not sure i’d love it on me in person.
What is the name of the Etsy store that sells high quality linen clothing? I have seen it recommended here but forgot its name.
not perfect linen is what a lot of people talk about here.
i’ve had a few pieces come through for slowre – actually i have a pair of pants going up next week, and i’m always impressed by the quality…
I bought the copote coat from slowre, for my husband and he loves it!
That being said it fits him perfectly as an oversized cardigan sweater. He is 5’10 and about 240lbs of solid man muscles . He had been on the look out for a nice warm cardigan in his size normally XL or XXL but most male designers don’t go up to his size :/ or they cost a fortune. This sweater works perfectly.
On me (5’5 125 lbs) it is lovely and warm, but awkward to carry anything over it, like a purse or bag and the big sleeves can get in the way of activities. Hope this helps you make a decision:)
Yes she was! The Harper jacket kind reminds me of a linen Rebekka kimono with pockets and I’m hoping I like the oversized shape, I loved it on the ES staff. In the cold light of day it MIGHT be redundant to my linen trench that I love (whoops) but then again it might be a better indoor layering piece and in that case 100% justified.
Rumor has it they’re going to be moving off of Etsy and onto their own webite soon
oh nice! do you have NPL pants? i got a pair in for slowre, and i really like them as a cheaper alternative to ES, but the elastic waistband is twisted inside and that is a SERIOUS PET PEEVE i have, i just can’t with that… have you noticed that?
I completely caved on my shopping resolutions and ordered the Harper Jacket in clay canvas. I just received my Clyde Culottes in clay canvas, and I’m obsessed with both the color and the fit (I’ve worn them three days in a row). I guess I’ve just created my very own clay canvas suit.
I don’t need any more pairs of pants but nonetheless really want the linen Flos in navy and the Andy Trouser in black silk. Sigh. What I really need are some long-sleeved tops that could be layered (having recently retired a bunch of Eileen Fisher tops in cozy viscose, a fabric that they’re no longer producing, sigh). It’s so hard to prioritize buying what one needs instead of what one wants.
I’ve not tried their pants, only tops. I’ve found ES pants to have a perfect rise for me and I’m so picky about that.
Oh dear…I’ve got Kardashian like proportions so we shall see. Based on that I do think I made the right decision not going with the petite and getting the regular instead even though I’m smurf sized heightwise. Crossing my fingers as I find the fabric texture and pattern so beautiful. If not, I’ll exchange for something else.
Thank you! Do you know how the sizing runs? Measurements on Etsy look a little small?
everything i’ve seen/tried seems to run true? the pants i have in now are Small/medium and they fit me well, if a little big.
keep in mind linen stretches quite a bit…
I’ve got two pieces from Linenfox also that are on part with NPL. There are quite a few Lithuanian linen shops that seem to source from the same linen supplier.
I agree, I think they run fairly true and the styles are pretty relaxed. I haven’t personally done it but I know people have had good results contacting them with their measurements and fit preferences and having items custom sized.
