Doen Joan dress | large
Chaco sandals
I bought this dress a few months ago and wore it a lot more when it wasn’t a million degrees outside. I’m wearing it now because I don’t want to wear things I’m taking with me next week on vacation. Although I may end up taking this….it’s very versatile, and I might wear it as a nightgown. Anyway, I love, it but it was a little big/long on me before I dried it for a few minutes on low heat. Now it’s perfect. I was just remarking to myself that I’d own this dress in multiple colors if I could, and as I went to go grab the link for you, I noticed that it’s on pre-sale in a beige/brown color. Hmmm. Maybe not in that color LOL.
No, actually I do like that color, but the new one is a cotton/viscose blend, which I’m unsure of. This does come with a belt, and I wear it sometimes, but lately I want flowy and loose. I love it, and would enjoy it in a heavier-weight cotton for fall too.
But speaking of dresses, Holly left a comment about thigh chafing yesterday I want to address. I used to wear spanx to conquer my thighs rubbing together, but it had been a very long time since that was a problem for me. Now after Hawk, it is a VERY serious, VERY annoying issue. If I was going to be outside with Hawk or walking around with him at all, I just wouldn’t wear a dress because it was so uncomfortable. Then I ordered some Megababe thigh rescue. Life changed.
I’ve followed Katie Sturino of Megababe on Instagram forever, so I knew I wanted to try her stuff first. I have only had it for a few days, but I used it a couple of times and it’s wonderful. I was a little concerned that it would leave a mark (like deodorant) on my dress, but I couldn’t find one. It would be something you’d have to reapply if you were going on a long walk or be out for a while, but I haven’t had to do that yet. So far so good, I hope you’ll try it if thigh chafing is a problem for you.
I didn’t ask yesterday when I mentioned that we are going on vacation next week, but is anyone venturing out and about this summer? To see family? What are you doing? How are you doing it?
We have been very conservative about sheltering in place even though we have two 20 year olds home from school. That said, I drove 600 miles to shelter in place at a different location for six weeks. Same routine for us even though in that location at that time restaurants opened for indoor dining and retail opened up for non-essential businesses. We got take out food sometimes, went grocery shopping, lots of fresh air walks and bike rides. We drove straight through, stopped at rest areas, (sanitizer etc.). It was a small town so going out for fresh air was much less stressful than the crowded streets of our San Francisco neighborhood. Mask orders went into effect while we were there and there was near total compliance. We are back in Bay Area, still sheltering. And hoping for better news.
I’ve been giving a lot of thigh chafing advice lately 😉 I personally don’t like products – they ALL sweat off me. I do not glisten, I do not glow, I SWEAT. A lot 😉 And we went to SE Asia last August 😉 I used to use Jockey slip shorts or spanx (the cheap version from Target) but these days – truly I buy men’s boxer briefs, the active wear versions. They’re not expensive, they wash & dry really well and my thighs don’t chafe. And pretty much all I wear are dresses, April – October because, again, sweat, and I live in NC.
No travel plans for us, likely for a long time. Apparently I’m super paranoid. Who knew a background in public & global health would make one terrified of infectious pandemics? My mom lives in the NC mountains and she plans to spend Sept & Oct in the midwest visiting family, so I’m thinking I might ask if we can borrow her house for a long weekend. Will upset her I want to visit specifically when she’s not there, but oh well….
Have fun on vacation! I did my monthly grocery shopping today (literally the only time I leave my house) and I wore my black OAK maxi dress I bought because of you 🙂 And my RBG Dissent Collar earrings my officemate got me for my birthday 🙂
I envy you getting to spend some time with your family! My Mom was suppose to visit for Christmas, but she fell on Thanksgiving and broke her kneecap…and by the time that healed the world turned upside down! She lives in Florida and isn’t going to travel and to be honest, I’m not quite ready to jump on a plane either. So, to that end, my husband and I are going camping in two weeks (I live in Colorado). The beauty of camping—minimal encounters with humans ? (hoping to see moose, though!).
Have fun on your vacation. Glad you are back to posting as I really need a good diversion!
I think my problem is right up there with thigh chafing, in that it is in the same area, but here it is — I bought an Elizabeth Suzann Mara jumpsuit in linen. I had been wanting one for a long time and finally last summer, I pulled the trigger and made the splurgey purchase. Well, OMG. The seams in the inner thighs rub. Really bad. Unaware this was even an issue, the first time I wore it, I was shopping (read: walking a lot) and I barely made it through. I thought I was going to die. Same as the inner-arm area. Totally rubbed. Hard. Am I super sensitive? Or is linen that pokey??? I ended up buying some bicycle short undies to wear with the jumpsuit, but it is another HOT layer to wear in the summer. Gah! I am so disappointed! I don’t know if I should persevere with it, or send it off to you to consign, Grechen!
California’s slowly shutting down again, bit, by bit, by bit:(. For the first time on 4th of July we saw family. Outside, 10 feet apart, masked for the most part unless we were in the pool, no shared foods. Sigh.
No plans to go anywhere and my sister-in-law just made the decision to cancel their trip out east to visit us in September, which would’ve required a flight. Wise move, I’m afraid. Sadly, my daughter won’t be able to return to her home & boyfriend in Colombia until September at the earliest. Times are uncertain and anxiety provoking.
I love the navy check colorway of that dress. So breezy!
Thanks so much, Grechen! I can’t wait to try the Megababe stuff to rescue my thighs, lol. As Lisa said above, California is starting to lock down again, so we’re just going to stay close to home. Have a lovely time on your getaway!!
P.S. I LOVE that Doen dress you’re wearing!!
Hi! What size is your Joan dress?
Thx
it’s a large, and i dried it on low once to shrink it a little – mostly in the length!
