So, I’m in Austin until Wednesday this week. I’m here with Leo who’s attending and speaking at a conference, and hosting a networking event Tuesday night. I’ll have time on my own part of Tuesday and Wednesday, but today I’m listening in on a conference for HPC start-ups and entrepreneurs.
My challenge then, for the day, was to:
- Not wear something that would obviously embarrass my husband (like clogs or harem pants)
- Wear something I would be comfortable in from 4 in the morning, during our drive to Austin, and potentially all day (I didn’t know when we’d be able to check in to the hotel)
- Look mildly “professional” and appropriate, as I’d be among high-tech entrepreneurs all day.
Turns out a hoodie and jeans is entirely appropriate among high-tech entrepreneurs (men and women alike), which I knew already, but I personally wanted to dress exactly as I’d dress if I were attending a conference like this as an entrepreneur. Which, interestingly I am, although in a completely different industry.
I am completely happy and comfortable with my chosen outfit, I made it through 4.5 hours in the car unscathed, and even though they did have our room ready to check into when we arrived in Austin, I decided not to change anything. I did take a quick picture though and I already can’t wait to fall into that bed…
Anyway, I was trying to get some non-outfit posts ready for the week, and I’m still working on that, but I also thought it would be interesting to share what I’m wearing here, given that I’m in a completely different environment than I’m used to.
Happy Monday!! (If you don’t follow me yet on Instagram, I posted a sneak peek of a photoshoot I did last week. I’ll share those all the photos here also, but always preview them on Instagram – hint, it’s a nearly all Everlane outfit + these jeans)
So glad you kept this jacket–it looks great! This is probably your outfit that most fits with what I wear to work, so maybe that’s why I like it too.
I’m traveling to Atlanta for a sales meeting this week, and I’ll have some downtime–any tips for shopping or eating while I’m there?
Also, in terms of travel wardrobe, I bought these incredible fleecy James Perse leggings. It has finally gotten cold(ish) here and these are unbelievably soft. I am sure that some outdoor clothing company makes the same thing for half the price, but oh well.
You look great! I really like those jeans. You look long and lean!
oh!! did you get the new high-waisted leggings?? i love those. they’re probably very similar to the splendid heavyweight leggings (https://www.shopbop.com/fleece-leggings-splendid/vp/v=1/845524441915376.htm?folderID=2534374302024006&fm=other-shopbysize-viewall&os=false&colorId=12867) i have and love to wear when it’s cold. although i don’t love the lower rise…
i love the jacket, and i’m glad i have it, but i’m going to be honest, i wore it because i have it…i definitely would prefer to have a charcoal gray blazer or black blazer for occasions like this. i mean, i like the camel hair a lot, but it feels a little more “preppy” to me…
atlanta…haven’t been to the “city” in a while, but try flying biscuit cafe if you can, if you like sushi, MF sushi, uh…shopping, i’m not sure, when i lived there i stuck mostly to lenox and phipps malls. they’re right across from each other!
I LOVE that camel blazer on you, Grechen!!! I’m having blazer-envy right now, in fact! Wish I could find something like that myself. I am quite fond of camel and I think it suits you wonderfully!
well, of course i’m trying to find this one for you now…but besides the “regular” brooks brothers site (https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Petite-Camel-Hair-Two-Button-Jacket/S930,default,pd.html) , where it’s nearly $700, it doesn’t seem to have popped up on ebay. mine is probably an outlet exclusive, it’s made in mexico and i think was around $200 when i got it a couple years ago.
Aww, you’re too sweet, thanks for trying to find it for me. Wow, camel-hair is pretty expensive!
So, “Go Pro”! 😉
I’m in a blazer mood, too, and just bought one that fits my lifestyle…or the Pinterest lifestyle I imagine I have! http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=534084002
I’ll have to see how it fits when it arrives, but it fills a niche for me!
yes…i had no idea!!!!
oh, nice!!! i like that blazer a lot.
I wish I would’ve known you were in Austin earlier! I would have loved to get coffee! I love the look too!
i’m still here!!! 🙂
