WEARING
Madewell dress | size medium, can’t find it online, don’t know why!
Forever21 necklace
Camper sandals | on sale for $119 at Zappos, not a lot of sizes left
Balenciaga bag | secondhand from MOSS
Here’s the dress I got with the Refinery29 Shops “ticket” for Madewell: spend $60 and get $100. I am pretty sure this dress used to be online and now it’s not. There’s a black version also, with cobalt blue at the bottom – very pretty, but I liked this purple/gray color. It’s the same color/fabric of a Madewell dress I got a couple of years ago and ruined by drying it (I know!!! I don’t dry anything anymore…). And as you’ll notice, I’m showing my knees. I’m over it, okay? I wore this dress this weekend, and while it’s not ideal for sitting, it’s great for walking around; very comfortable.
And since we talked about it yesterday, I decided to break out my bright yellow Balenciaga bag for some color today. Aren’t you proud of me? 😉 I do really want to start WEARING some color (maybe the dress today is color – although it seems pretty neutral to me), as I mentioned in a comment on yesterday’s post, there was a great green skirt I tried on a Zara a while ago that I loved, but was afraid of, so I didn’t get it. Now I wish I had…because it’s gone.
That dress is great–and yes, it used to be online but isn’t any longer. I tried it on a while back and loved it. Also will look good over leggings or skinny jeans when it gets cooler.
thanks jen, i didn’t think i was crazy!! i only got it because i could see how versatile it’ll be – i’ll definitely be able to wear it year-round here. assuming i keep it out of the dryer…
The dress is great! I’m going to go cruise Madewell, since it’s been a while.
I’m infamous for drying things, so I appreciate you telling me about the similar dress you ruined. I (by accident) dried my Sweaty Betty tee the other day that said NO DRYING. It survived… just a teensy bit shrunken. So annoying.
By the way.. I am on a yellow kick and I’ve been looking for a yellow bag. A pop of color in the summer is nice. Love your Balenciaga.
First of all, you look great here.
Second, you made me laugh with the title for this post. Outfit: Color!?! Yes, the bright yellow is color, but seriously, you cannot think that gray is color. Now that you’re over the knees thing, I can’t wait to see you wear some more color! The day we see you wear shorts, with a colored top, I may faint. 🙂
Finally, I think you should be proud of yourself that you’re breaking out of your mold but still looking very much yourself. Go Grechen!
it’s a purple-gray, not entirely gray 😉
oy, i’ve ruined a lot of things recently drying them. i got a great top from zara that shrunk – not a lot – and an H&M skirt i LOVED shrunk a foot – i’m not kidding. i was hoping i didn’t have to coddle the cheap stuff i’m buying, but i guess i should. i basically can’t dry anything anymore!
i do like yellow as an accent color. yellow and orange. but never together LOL
You don’t really think your readers are going to let you get away with calling the dress “color” do you? Ha ha!! I love the bag as the pop of color in your outfit, though. You can totally do that with accessories and not have to WEAR color. The dress is so you, and so adorable on you! And I love your knees!!! Knee POWER!!! 😉
the BAG Is color!!! not the dress. although, it’s not technically “gray” it’s purple-gray. but yes, more of a neutral than actual color.
Well, you don’t have to worry about me calling you out on the color issue…I mean, navy blue is a color, right? And I think that bag is a brighter color than any single item I own personally.
yes. navy is a color. right? i mean, technically even black & gray are “colors,” they’re just not COLOR.
i can do crazy bright bags/shoes, but not very often. and it still feels a little weird, but i like that better than wearing crazy bright colors on my person.
Stopped into Madewell today and they are offering 40% off sale! And the refinery voucher works on sale too so needless to say I was allllll over that
yeah! bonus 🙂 that’s how i got this drape-back shirt I wore on Monday: http://grechenscloset.com/outfit-harem-pants-drapeback-shirt/
such a great deal!!
That bag is a stunner! Balenciaga does some gorgeous colors. You look very summer-breezy!
thanks! the bag was a complete accident, it showed up a year or so ago at my favorite designer consignment shop and i couldn’t stop thinking about it…needless to say, it was an AMAZING price, so good i couldn’t pass it up.
I love the dress and the necklace is cute too. You should definitely wear all of those things you said you’d never wear. You look great in them!
Yes! Yellow is a colour. Good show! Baby steps towards the rainbow…
BTW, have you considered wearing bike shorts with short dresses? I do, and it makes me feel so much more comfortable, not worrying about flashing anyone when I cross my legs. Oh, and they are great for biking, too! Just think of them as really short leggings.
beautiful dress. I’ve been hunting for a yellow bag or yellow on my bottom half. Boden have a bucket bag and lacey skirt and Banana Rep have some nice stuff.
I am with you…I don’t wear color as part of my wardrobe.
But I literally bought a yellow bag from Anthro last month as my summer bag
(which love with grey, brown, navy etc)
and this fall I intend to maintain my all grey.black.blue wardrobe
with my colorful bags, neon flats and metallic clogs.
Since I turned 40, I am with Kim France on this….wear the colors that feel like “you” but use your accessories to add color, trends and fun! I just bought orange chloe flats, pink geox flats and am contemplating red clogs!
oh! red clogs!! get them…
i miss my silver clogs (they were always too big), and am trying to decide what color to get next.
