Ah, life with a newborn. I would say we’re settling in, but everything is constantly changing, so there’s really no “settling.” I suppose I’m getting used to being at the beck and call of a tiny human, after all, I have no other choice; he is the boss right now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
It’s weird, because life seems different, yet not, at the same time. I feel like Hawk has always been here, in a way, and just fits into our lives seamlessly. At the same time, of course, everyday life has been altered in terms of literally everything.
I don’t cry anymore when we get in the car, although I hate how he sits in the carseat – he’s just so tiny and scrunched up. I do cry sometimes when he doesn’t get enough to eat from just me, and I have to give him formula. I cried a little when I couldn’t fit into any of my pre-pregnancy clothes, not even into some things I wore in the first trimester. My hips widened significantly in the third trimester, so truly nothing fits except dresses.
I do smile more though, when he looks my direction, and when he stretches his long arms after being unswaddled. I feel content when he sleeps skin to skin on my chest and fulfilled when he’s awake and happy. I love all his faces, like the side-eye he’s giving me above LOL
So hard to believe he was inside my body two weeks ago, and now he’s not. Hm.
Anyway, about my outfit. I ordered this Christy Dawn dress before Hawk was born thinking it would be great for postpartum and breastfeeding. (with Christy Dawn you have to order when you find a fabric pattern/content that you like). It is. But it’s also a little big on me. All of Christy Dawn’s items are made from surplus/upcycled materials, so fabric content is different for different pieces, but this dress is a very light cotton, perfect for the weather right now. It’s also pretty sheer, as you can see. Overall, I like it a lot, but I wish I’d had it in my third trimester. Now, it’s so comfortable, and fits me, but I’m not sure I’ll keep it for very long; it’s just a lot of fabric on me around the hips/legs.
I do absolutely recommend the dress though if you’ve been thinking about trying Christy Dawn at all. It’s beautifully made, sustainable, and something you could wear for years. Now is a great time to buy too because they’re offering 20% off sitewide now with code ENDOFSUMMER20. I also have a Christy Dawn referral link – you get $30 off and I get $30 – so use whichever one gets you the larger discount, and let me know if you end up purchasing anything!
