And…today I went back to anthropologie and tried both dresses on again for a friend who works there, and she agreed with nearly ALL of you that the first, brown print dress was the best. I was meeting another friend for lunch, so I had to leave and told her I’d come back and make my purchase. On the way in, I grabbed a new leather skirt to try on, just for fun…
And almost bought it. Everyone said it looked amazing – random people walking through the dressing room loved it. I loved it, but it’s leather. And I didn’t like that it showed my knees. But in this picture, with tights, I don’t mind that it shows my knees. And it looked awesome with just a white tee. Still, I was really nervous to buy a leather skirt; what would I wear with it? What bag would I carry?? So I didn’t get it and got the dress instead.
And as soon as I got home with it, I tried it on again with different sweaters, jackets, etc. on top…and I DO NOT LIKE IT. And I think it’s too big. But they didn’t have a size 10 in the store. Maybe I’m just stuck comparing it with the skirt, or any skirt that shape, for that matter. That shape is very good for me I think – narrow waist band, some pleating, slight a-line, and pockets. And just above the knees (even though I hate my knees).
I don’t know. I’m disappointed now. Sure, I can go to the other Anthropologie and try on the 10, but I’m thinking I might just need the skirt instead.
What do you think?

Get the skirt!!!! I refrained from commenting on the dresses because I wasn’t crazy about either of them. The skirt would be a unique piece in your wardrobe. The dress? You have others that are more flattering. The skirt really does look amazing in the photo. I tend to listen to random unsolicited comments in the dressing room as the focus is just how I look and goes past all the baggage (like not liking knees…) Anyway the skirt looks killer with the leggings. And great with the striped top.
Allow me to join the chorus of “get that skirt NOW.” It’s completely amazing on you, great shape, adds texture. And while I think the floral dress is very pretty, maybe your hesitation means it’s not a great fit with your closet/personal style? In any case, team skirt! 🙂
I went to my local anthro today & they do not have the leather skirt. It’s not in the catalog, it’s not online, I may need to call your store for a charge send! Please tell me you already went back & got 1. Does it fit tts?

I didn’t vote the other day, but you look so lovely in that green dress. Seriously flattering with the belt you added. However, if you have to convince yourself so much and it doesn’t work with what you currently have, take it back and get that skirt.
I have been dying for a leather skirt in a fun shape like that and it is cute!!! I’m not sure about what bag though. Most of my bags are leather and I’m hesitant to do leather on leather, but it is just a bag. Do you have something that is lighter than that shade of brown? Something that would make it look less matchy-matchy?

Woah that skirt is awesome!!! I bet it would look so great with a lady like blouse and white tee as you have modeled. Oh me likey…..And maybe I’m alone here, but I don’t see anything wrong with a leather skirt and a leather handbag. The skirt is simple so anything would go with it!!!
you know, i was thinking i could do my alexander wang rocco duffel – it’s black with textured leather, so it looks “different” enough that it might work. my donna bag is a lighter brown, it might also work. i don’t know..leather on leather has always scared me though….

i’m just weird like that – i don’t like for anything i’m wearing to be the same texture or fabric as something else. i think i can do a leather bag, just not my new jas m.b. 🙁 – something lighter.
I agree with the majority of opinions: #1 The skirt and striped tee look FAB on you! (knees included!!) #2 If you’re not comfortable with the dress, it doesn’t matter WHAT we say, you’ll never wear it and #3 Do you have a bag in a canvas texture? If so, would that work? Or woven??? Just some ideas…
Grechen, the skirt looks very cute and if you like it, go ahead and get it. (I also think you’re overthinking the handbag dilemma. I think your Darcy would look good with it.) Not to make you crazy, but the dress looks fantastic–as did the other one in black and white. (I think it was Tracy Reese.) I’m not quite sure why you don’t like the dress–but, as everyone else here has said, you’re the one wearing it and you have to feel good in it.
Ok, get that skirt! I went online to Anthropologie and also called my local store in Kansas City but neither has the skirt. I have been searching everywhere for a leather gathered short skirt (above knee) and the only luck was JCrew late summer but the price tag was outrageous (they are now sold out anyway). Where can I get the skirt you tried on? Which store??? Anyway, get it, and where it with a fun denim shirt or plaid or a nice white long sleeve t-shirt. You could dress it up for a ‘hang out at home’ party during the holidays with a cute sequin tank or a fun red cashmere sweater! Where it with some fun boots and you are set!
i did get the skirt!!! you can call my anthro. at 512 – 8738429 – they seemed to have one of every size available (i bought the 12) and i think another reader bought one, not sure what size. it’s $228.
