As if any other day in my life is NOT casual π And speaking of Madewell, I tried on this envelope skirt the other day and it is FABULOUS. I was worried that it would be a weird length on me, but the slit up the side is actually very clever and makes it seem shorter, if that makes sense. They only had up to size 6 in the store, so I tried on the 6 and it fit, but was VERY snug in the hips. Anyway, I really loved the look of the skirt and can imagine wearing it with a lot. If you have a Madewell nearby, I think they’re all doing their new fall arrivals event this afternoon, maybe they’ll offer a discount too? Sometimes mine does, I’ll be there to see π
Other than that, I don’t have any major plans this Labor Day weekend. Honestly, I get major FOMO around most holidays because we don’t have any family nearby and not a huge circle of friends, so my husband and I usually spend it together, doing not much at all. Which is okay, really. I think this weekend calls for pool time, LOTS OF READING (starting Sisterland tomorrow), and perhaps a little shopping? What do you have planned this weekend?
**if you’re into sale shopping, and I know you are π check out Grechen’s Codes for all the Labor Day sales and coupon codes, as well as my picks from favorite online stores. Happy Labor Day!
Love the skirt! I cannot stand tshirts that fall off (I don’t wear boat necks because they show bra straps, so this would make me nuts too) I’m working from home today and my outfit is even more casual. Yours is totally cute. Me, I would be embarrassed to answer the door for the mail carrier π I’m hoping to shop this weekend – quick trip to the outlets nearby once I go through my cool weather clothing in the closet. But mainly because I had a nephew born today, 4 weeks too early, and I need to go buy him some presents for when I get to visit later this fall!
(also, did you see the new leather bags that Everlane is releasing later this fall? I got an email today. Love love love that suede weekender. Completely impractical for travel. But GORGEOUS. I’ll have to see what their prices are…)
PS You did your hair so cute – on your own today? Looks like you figured out the curling iron!! Wish mine would do that (or stay that way longer than 2 minutes….even with hairspray π
haha! no, it’s still leftover from Tuesday. no, i haven’t washed it π just “refreshed” it a little!!
i’m telling you, she puts a ton of product in it so it STAYS styled. i just can’t afford all those products…
oh! congrats on the new nephew. mine turned 14 yesterday!!! SO WEIRD. probably weirder for his mom…but still…
saw the new bags, and that weekender is amazing, but you’re right, so not practical. would be good for a car trip i guess…i just wouldn’t want to haul it through the airport.
Hello! I am still thinking your hair is just adorable! (You have inspired me to cut and color next week, Saturday! It’s long overdue!) I always love the grey tones, especially with your warm/blonde/brown hair; I think this is truly pretty. I also really like the shape of the skirt and the fun stripes. I don’t often wear skirts (Katharine Hepburn π Love pants!) but I would truly love to try something like this. Love it with the converse! (Seems fresh and “Parisian” to me:))
I so connect with your style and I love your articles on IFB. You really are sound and so down to earth. I find this incredibly refreshing and inspiring! Thanks always, and continued success to you! I love your links as well. Now that the boys are outfitted for school (and I may just blog a bit about school clothes shopping for Tyler, our son with autism; he is going to look amazing for 8th grade!) I need to reconsider my closet!
Thanks again, and enjoy your Labor Day. All the best, Kim
I love that skirt. It looks great on you. And you are making me want to cut my hair after trying to grow it out for 2 yrs! As for the shirt. I have small shoulders so I feel like everything slips off and it bugs me. I try to wear cute bras so at least if the strap peeks thru … I work from home so I am in my sweats right now hahahha and my hairs in a bun. Yea it’s that kind of day π
Speaking of the sales, why oh WHY did I click through to the La Garconne sale section? I want everything. I had a very specific fall shopping list that I’d settled on, but now I’m wavering….this VPL jacket and the Helmut Lang glazed cotton jacket, and a billion pairs of pants. Not to mention the Isabel Marant boots that I can’t believe they have in my size.

That skirt is really cute! I like the whole outfit right down to the tennis shoes.
Plans for the weekend .. I’m on vacation .. yah!
Monica.
I think the new Ryan is a lot worse than the previous version. It looks more baggy, and I personally dislike the raglan sleeve. I ordered it in Small, and even that looked like a sack of potatoes on me. Bummer. I do like the tank, though. Yes, I think you need a Small, too. π
I KNOW! i can’t believe they still have so many things in so many sizes…i wish i was confident about liking the IM boots on me, i’d get them…
yeah, that jacket is insane.
it’s definitely a baggier fit and longer, but i think i like the material better. my first ryan got a hole after one wearing!! they refunded me promptly when i told them about it and mentioned that they’d heard that and were working on a new fabric for the newer ones. but i DO LOVE the tank. might get another tank, but will pass on more ryan tees.
thanks monica. happy vacation!
thank you kim! i’ll be honest, i’m not entirely comfortable yet with such a short skirt, but since it’s been SOOO hot here, i try not to care very much!!!
don’t cut your hair! i’m still growing mine π
i do like this length though, but i want to be able to pull it back into more than just a pony-“bump” LOL
Should not have gone to the La Garconne site. There’s too many good things on there and I’ve spent a lil too much lately and need to be good until next year haha.
I’m trying really hard NOT to shop right now! (Well, let’s be honest…not so hard, really.) But I still have my “unhealthy habit” (#obsessionsubstitute) for floaty hippie tops. I was in Amagansett at the Salon today and a woman walking in wearing the perfect summer outfit for me: Cuffed dark skinny-boyfriend jeans, a floaty white CP Shades Karla top, K Jacque sandals, and a lightweight scarf, with her hair tied nonchalantly in a ponytail. Sigh… There’s always something to grab my attention!
P.S. I’m really quite ticked that Everlane’s sizes don’t encompass a true size L (12-14) but call an 8-10 L! Really? On the Planet Supermodel??? I wish they’d get more realistic, because from the sound of it, their sizes don’t reflect their reality!
Regardless of what they “say” the sizes are, the size L tee definitely fits a 12-14…I’m solidly a size 12 / 36DD and the L, and sometimes the M, fit me. But the vanity sizing is annoying and misleading. I haven’t tried the silk or poplin shirts though, so can’t comment on those.
Thank you, Jen, for giving me that info. It’s helpful to know that. I’m just upset with them because I’ve contacted them about it several times and no one has ever responded to my comment/request! (and I know you’ve said the same thing before about their sizing, Grechen!)
They do have free shipping when you buy 2 or more items and free returns, so not a big risk to to get a couple sizes to try on. I’ve had good experiences with their shipping and returns–quick shipping and quick refunds.
I appreciate the info on Everlane. Thanks, Jen!
Your hair is the perfect shade and looks AMAZING on you!
I love your tee-shirt and outfit, and especially your hair and the color! The length is fantastic too. You’ve changed it up so many times since I’ve been a reader, and I like your sense of adventure with your look.
thank you π
