I’ve had these Black Crane pants before, in navy flannel (September 2013), and I liked them, but they were warm for most of Texas’ weather. After discussing Elizabeth Suzann and linen alternatives lately, I decided to go ahead and just order these pants to try/show you and see if I thought they were good enough to keep. FYI, I ordered them on Saturday morning and they arrived yesterday 🙂 I wore them all afternoon yesterday, and am wearing them now (I just took these photos a few minutes ago), so this is how they look AFTER quite a bit of wear.
As you can see, they’re a “green black” with translates more to charcoal in my opinion, but when put up against grey, they definitely look more green. I was hesitant at first, not thinking I would like the color. I do like it, and love that it provides a contrast to black.
I ordered the small, and the waist is SNUG. I have to shimmy to get them over my hips at first also. And the waist is still a bit snug after so much wear. Which is a. a good thing, and b. a bad thing. I don’t really notice it all that much unless I do, if that makes sense, and I definitely wouldn’t want to go with the medium, so I’m not sure what the solution is. Is there any way to “stretch” elastic??
Obviously the shape is unconventional, and quite a bit more hip-accentuating than even ES Clyde pants. Honestly, I’m not sure this is the “look” I’m going for right now, so I’m not sure I will keep them. I do like them, but I’m always thinking and wondering if I’d like something else BETTER. Like I’ve wanted to try Elizabeth Suzann’s Andy pants in linen and/or the Florence pants in linen. But I just do not want to wait six weeks for them.
Black Crane’s linen is comparable to ES I think; maybe a little softer and less “structured” though? Overall, if you like the shape, and that these have pockets, I highly recommend these as a great linen pant. I consider them an excellent alternative to Elizabeth Suzann 🙂
One note about Garmentory before I move on to Shopbop…They’re changing their referral fee structure in a week or so down to $10 credit when you sign up for an account so if you prefer $20, I’d suggest doing it now. Here is my referral link, and when you use it to sign up for an account at Garmentory you’ll get a $20 account credit and so will I. (actually I’m not sure it’s still working, they may have disabled it already, but it’s worth a try!)
Now, Shopbop. It’s time to score JP and Robert Clergerie for up to 25% off! (that’s what I will do anyway…) I’ll write more about my picks tomorrow, but as you probably know, I recommend all the James Perse and all the Robert Clergerie. I ordered these shoes a month ago and have only just been able to wear them a couple of times, but honestly, the second I put them on, I heard angels sing. No, I don’t believe in angels, but wow, these are so comfortable. And I love the height. And the color palette 🙂
