Eileen Fisher slouchy pants | I’m wearing a large, petite
Acne Studios wool sweater | small
Vince Warren sneakers | size down 1/2 size
Jas M.B. bag | 7 years old
I was going to wear my Eileen Fisher harem pants yesterday instead of these slouchy pants, but I decided not to after I put them on and wore them around a bit. I haven’t worn them in a year or so, and am sort of tempted to sell them, but also not; I still love them, I just don’t want to wear them LOL. Ugh.
On a completely unrelated note, I’m really frustrated with my hair. I’m going for color tomorrow and I really really really want to just go platinum blonde. But I don’t want to spend so much money on my hair. I think I want to grow it out a bit and get it back to this style, and color, with the blonde at the ends, but I really can’t get the idea of going totally blonde out of my head.
I was blonde, when I was around 24-25, and my hair was super-short, like a couple of inches short. I liked it a lot, then, but I’m not sure how I will like it now. And what if I don’t? And the cost? Potential damage to my hair? But I sort of feel like I should try it, just to get it out of my head and be done with it. It’s only hair…
Help?
Also, in case you missed it over at Grechen’s Codes yesterday, Shopbop took new markdowns, and my favorite Oak NYC dress (in fatigue) is on sale! I bought the black dress and wore it for two years in the medium, but sold it to buy the small recently for this summer. I’m very tempted to get the other color, now that it’s on sale…
I wore my hair short and platinum while younger–older and grayish now! For what it’s worth, I did love it, but I also felt like I had to wear either eye makeup or a bright lip to keep from looking washed out. Just something to consider since you are more subtle and natural when it comes to makeup; of course, you have pretty skin so it might not be an issue. Also, I love black and blue together!
That one is my favorite of your haircuts ever. You look so cute and cool in it. I vote for going back to that, although, why not, do it after you go platinum once or twice to get it out od your system. Hair is definitely only hair. It grows back. It’s fine. I am sure it will look good on you too.
Change is exciting!!!!! If you have your heart set on platinum, ask about Olaplex. It *might* help with the damage. You also may want to be prepared to go shorter if you need to cut off dead ends or if/when you decide to go back to your natural.
I agree with Debi on possibly needing to add more color – either with makeup or clothing (red is particularly amazing with platinum hair), or strong eyeliner and bold brows. Maybe. And maybe you won’t need any of that. Why not try on a couple of wigs and see if you like the look? I’d love to see you go for it 🙂
I had a brief flirtation with platinum in the ’90s (when I wore more makeup) and once in a while toy with the idea of trying it again as an alternative to the monthly root touch ups (I’m naturally dark chocolate brown, about 50% gray). My stylist won’t go there though – partly because it would still be high-maintenance and won’t solve my gray problem, partly because of the potential for damage – so it would mean breaking up with her. Not sure it would be worth it because she’s usually right. The way she explains is that any type of processing – like color or bleaching/highlights – weakens the hair by opening the cuticle and making it more vulnerable to damage from whatever you’d do to it (blow outs, flat iron, more color or bleaching, etc. ). The entire length of my whole head has been colored, so even though it looks and feels healthy, a full-on bleach job would expose all that damage. That’s what she insists, anyway. I imagine that if your hair is strong and relatively virgin right now, you might be able to go platinum without wrecking it.
If I were to take the plunge myself, I’d probably go short at the same time – I’ve been pining for a pixie with a lot of length on top.
Platinum is so hard to maintain – I just had a streak (granted, my hair is darker than yours), but the ROOTS. I would maybe just ask for a ton of all-over highlights that are super bright. I think if there’s a lot of very blonde near your face, you will feel more blonde. Or you could do a bunch of balyage – basically, free-hand painted highlights. It grows out so well.
Balyage is beautiful!!!
i loved that cut/style on me too, i don’t know why i got away from it?
my hair is relatively healthy, but i’ve been coloring it FOREVER, so not “virgin” LOL!
my friend has gray/pastel hair and i see how dry it is/damaged and it fell out some after coloring, so i’m not super-excited about that happening to me. which is why i haven’t gone full on platinum yet, honestly.
i love her hair though 😉
my stylist keeps trying to talk me out of going full-on blonde too! she’s probably right, but i’m having a hard time getting it out of my head. we’re going to talk about it tomorrow. i’ll probably ask for just huge chunks of balyage and lightening up the base a lot, i think it’s my “base” color that bothers me so much?
I think you could totally rock a deep cherry red! Less maintenance, more sass.
Maybe. I waffle sometimes between going darker and lighter!!
When in doubt trust your gut – go for it, just like wearing what you want whatever the task.
This may sound odd, but you could try to find a wig shop nearby you and try on a platinum colored wig. It can give you a general idea of how a color may play with your skin tone, if it washes you out, etc. Just a thought!
I’m sorry if this sounds critical, but the first photo is unflattering. (The second works well.) I like what you’re wearing, but the pose pushes your thighs out in a weird way.
I was just going to say the same thing, Debi: I think Platinum blond requires HUGE upkeep/expense, plus, when you go for that look, it requires more makeup, lest it look like an afterthought. My 2 cents.
I think it’s my fave on you…super-flattering and sexy! 😉
Jade, why does it matter?
Why wouldn’t it matter? Taking decent photos is part of being a blogger. And some of her photos aren’t flattering to either her body or clothing. I know that you’re another sycophantic fan, so anything that’s remotely critical is considered off-limits.
Jade, sycophant or not, I’m not here for perfect, “professional photographer” quality photographs. I’m not here because Grechen looks like a model and has her hair blown-out and her makeup done everyday by a pro hairstylist and MUA. There are TONS of blogs out there if that’s what you’re looking for! I can relate to Grechen, she’s got amazing style, and she’s always striving to do better with the things that matter most in life….Not how her thigh is positioned in a photograph.
Different strokes for different folks. 🙂
