First, you guys are BLOWING ME AWAY with your responses to the 2016 reader survey. Seriously, you’re making me laugh, smile, and cry with gratitude that I get to do this everyday, and that I have the most amazing, thoughtful, readers. I am really going to work hard to try and incorporate your suggestions for Grechen’s Closet going forward – look for some changes ahead!! I’ll let the survey run through the weekend and choose one (or more!) winners randomly on Monday. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your suggestions, comments, and input.
Also, I’m feeling much better today, thanks for your well-wishes here and on Instagram. I did have a cold, but I knocked that out pretty fast with some Zicam, but then yesterday I was having MAJOR tooth/mouth pain so I went to the dentist, and it turns out I have blocked salivary glands. SO painful. I was having so much pain I would get dizzy and nauseous, something I’d never experienced before. And what is the best to un-block blocked salivary glands? wait for it….suck on sour candy! Seriously – it helps to stimulate the glands and hopefully push out whatever is blocking them. So…with my dentist’s permission, I ate sour candy all afternoon yesterday and most of the pain has subsided. Which is good, because it means that it’s nothing more serious. Thank goodness.
Anyway. I know some of you guys want shorter posts (!) so sorry!!! And I’ll try to wrap this up LOL – here’s an outfit with my new Acne Studios Calla sweater I mentioned as one of my “holy grail” items last week. I got it because I tried on a similar Acne sweater early last fall and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I kept trying to find something similar, but cheaper, with no luck, so I sucked it up and got this with Shopbop credits. I’ve worn it once this week since it has been very nice and warm-ish, and am so pleased with it. I love the long, slim sleeves, which I need to balance out the more boxy silhouette of the sweater. I also think the v-neck femininizes the sweater, which I desperately need in my wardrobe; more “feminine” items, especially to balance out these Hope trousers.

More on the Hope News trousers in a years-later review next week, which I also know you guys want more of! Keep the suggestions/comments coming please, I love reading them.
Happy Friday!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Are you doing anything special for the Super Bowl? We’re having some friends over and my husband will smoke some meat and make empenadas. Yum. I don’t care about the football, but I love the food, and spending time with friends. Oh, and the commercials…
I’m not normally a fan of clogs but yours are REALLY nice and may just make me change my mind about them!
ha! yes, they’re definitely not everyone’s style. honestly, i don’t wear clogs as often as i used to either…but i do still like them every once in a while! these were a gift from my father for my birthday, and they’re so awesome, especially that they’re vegan/sustainable/small designer 🙂
I love to see you in a v-neck! Small change – but noticeable! (in a good way 😉 No big plans – we don’t watch football, so….I am planning to smoke a turkey tomorrow and we’re hoping for a bonfire in our firepit – should be cold but clear & sunny, my favorite type weather for bonfires.
thank you !
i used to wear v-neck or scoop neck tops ONLY, because i like that neckline the best, but lately i’ve been wearing more crew necks, i guess i don’t mind them as much as i used to? it’s weird…but i am aiming to avoid adding any more crew neck tops to my wardrobe generally – i like the feminine shape of a v-neck!
i LOVE smoked turkey!! we did that for thanksgiving, but leo really dislikes poultry. any poultry….
My husband told me (when we first started dating) that he hated turkey, salmon – a bunch of different things. Turns out his mom is not a very good (or adventurous) cook, and my husband & his roommates used to BOIL turkey in college (cheap, “easy”) I love to cook and experiment, so these days he’ll eat anything (and he loves salmon and my turkey – any way I want to fix it)
I first decided to try smoking a turkey because of a soup we had in Antigua, Guatemala – it’s called xochitl, it’s a smoked turkey broth with a little turkey, some fideo noodles & sliced chiles, topped with avocado slices and a little cilantro. So simple, so delicious – and we had to make it at home!
I like a scoopneck, but avoid crew necks unless they’re low – same reason I avoid turtlenecks (well, I used to have a turtleneck addiction but now I hate to have things around my neck – won’t wear short necklaces either – I inherited that from my mom and grandmother….)
is there really a clothing company called Acne? Yikes.
yes, well technically it’s ACNE studios, and acne stands for “Ambition to Create Novel Expressions” – i should have used the full name in my post!
Love the look.
If the salivary glands are slow to open, suck on a lemon wedge. It clears them pretty quickly.
They’re Swedish, right?
I’m not a fan of either team, so I’d rather watch “Downton Abbey” and “Mercy Street” but I have a feeling that my husband is going to want to watch the game. We’ll probably have hors d’ouerves and grilled cheese sandwiches. No party.
I love the way you did the partial-tuck styling in the top pic. It looks great! I’m a BIG fan of vee necks. I feel strangled in crew necks, but I did just purchase a black crewneck sweater from Swedish brand Cheap Monday. I haven’t tried it yet, so it may go back. I got a “dupe” of your ACNE sweater in Chicago by Trouve, a Nordstrom brand, but it stretches out quickly. You get what you pay for!
Yes!
