Ace & Jig Quince Dress | small
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals | mine were secondhand
Here’s the Ace & Jig Quince dress I ordered. It’s probably going back; I love it, but it’s just a bit too fussy. I prefer it off the shoulder, but the sleeves don’t stay put, so I’d have to constantly mess with them if I wanted to keep that look. I don’t mind the sleeves up, either, as you can see in the third picture, the neckline is still wide enough to give the desired effect, but then the elastic is tighter than I’d like around my upper arms.
And it’s long – I have it pinned up, but I pinned it too short, I’d rather have it hit right above the ankle.
I don’t know if I’m going to keep it or not yet. We’ll see.
I need a break from posting outfits for a little while though. I wrote a whole long post about it, then deleted it, because perhaps I was being a bit dramatic LOL
Somehow, something has shifted in me since yesterday’s post though. I have been so open and vulnerable here for fourteen years, maybe there’s a time limit on that?
Ugh. no. I’ll be back. I just need a minute 😉
I love this dress!!! Wish it wasn’t a pain, because I would totally get it. It fits your “persona” so well.
Mmmm. Would be the perfect dress for me, since I would wear it with the sleeves “up”. It’s a lovely dress, but don’t get it if you want the sleeves “down”. Too much struggle.
Amazing! Looks so good on you. I vote for this one.
This dress is so lovely on you, but if you are like me, fussy clothes equal neglected clothes. I have a dress with ruffles on the sleeve that make the insides of my arms itch……. so I rarely wear it. Even though I love it!!
Vulnerability about clothes and style and body image can be rough. I find myself getting weary when I get an overabundance of feedback, good or bad. You take care of you!! xoxo
I really like this dress on you so much – looks so soft and feminine. It looks particularly good on you with the sleeves up. As a person who is only just under 5’2” myself, I have to be careful with prints because they overwhelm me – this dress doesn’t do that on you. So lovely.
I love this one on you, but agree, if it’s likely to annoy you, you’re not going to wear it. I liked yesterday’s too but I wouldn’t wear that one – I don’t like to be able to feel the side of my ribcage with the inside of my arm, especially in the heat.
But but but but but…. this is GORGEOUS on you! Just saying. And you deserve a break today. So get out and get away…. (Old McDonald’s Jingle – ugh, sorry!)
Normally you look really comfortable in your outfits. You don’t today. You should only wear things that you feel 100% comfortable and confident in.
It really is gorgeous. It is also closer to what we’re used to seeing you in. The RC dress yesterday is a bigger departure. This one feels more romantic to me, so if you’re buying specifically for the anniversary keep that in mind. Or, let Leo decide. 😉
Both this dress and the Rachel Comey dress from yesterday looked great, but I find myself preferring the RC dress-both for you AND for me! It looks so effortlessly cool and put together. You wear both dresses really well, but you look so gorgeously ease in the RC dress. I hope you keep it!
FWIW I love hearing your thoughts and anxieties on fashion, dressing yourself, aging and all of the other things you’ve shared on here over the years. It has been a pleasure lurking alongside you on my own similar journey (ugh, worst word ever I’m sorry). I always look forward to reading your thoughts and seeing your outfits. I am very grateful you continue to put yourself out there. Thank you!
Grechen I think this is adorable on you, very summer chic. Also, I think you’re badass. Screw yesterday and those comments. Whenever something like that happens, I like to think of something ridiculously silly, and my go-to is Dory in Finding Nemo… “just keep swimming…”
Damn! This is way cuter on than I expected it to be! But I still vote for Rachel Comey stripes. And if this one doesn’t totally trip your trigger, it’s a nope.
I am a longtime follower of yours (and a Slowre customer). I respect your putting it all out there — doubt I could do it! Listen to your gut and do what feels right. Thank you for always being honest in your posts and photos.
PS Cute dress but agree that you should return it if it feels less than great on your skin/body. Only buy it if you love it. I hate fussy clothing or shoes — it inevitably gets ignored and turns into wasted money.
Love it, Grechen – romantic and looks good with the sleeves up, too.
