So…you guys have seen me with super long hair, with bangs (also), with a pixie cut, and now that the pixie’s all grown out, I’m ready to cut it off again π Not all the way, just right below my ears, like Zosia Mamet’s new cut. Or maybe more like Kristen Wiig’s…
I am OBSESSED with this style – shorter, all one length, hair parted to the side and tucked behind the ears. But I’m not sure it’ll work well on me. Which has never stopped me from trying before, however, and certainly won’t this time. I would do it ASAP, but I paid a lot of money for my blonde ends, and I hate to cut them off.
I will cut it soon, I do like my longer hair, but I feel like it’s lacking some style right now, and I like my “look” better when you can see my neck (I think). Of course, every time I cut it off I want it long and “easy” again. Ultimately, I don’t like my hair to look too “styled,” but I do always like it better when it has a nice shape to it. And I do like shorter cuts on me in general, but they tend to border on being too styled. Oy.
What’s your hairstyle? Have you kept it the same for years? or do you change it up as often as I do??
Do you have any plans for a new hairstyle this year? New color? Do tell!!
I like shorter hair. I think it will look great on you. I’m about to cut my hair too. Lemme see if I can attach links
Love that look on Mamet & Wiig. If you have the right hair type, go for it! Hair type (and me having not the right one π is my ongoing problem too. I go in cycles – cut to chin length bob, then grow out. Every couple of years – repeat! This year, I learned new styling techniques from my stylist so I could do The Chop (eg the cut Karlie Kloss made famous )
I’m ok cutting or growing but lazy when it comes to using products & styling. I’m enjoying playing more with my hair the past few months though!
**edited to fix the link π
I love and have always wanted a cut like this, I’m not sure why I have never done it. I think it’s very chic, not super short but still sort of carefree- do it!

LOVE karlie’s cut. that’s kind of what my hair looks like when my stylist curls it. not when I curl it though π
with enough texturizing my hair can look like Zosia’s i think – although it’s not quite as thick anymore.
i wish i could learn to do more with my hair, but that’s just one thing that i’ve VERY lazy with. i don’t like to spend a lot of time on it, and i find it very intimidating.
OMG!!!!!!!!!
love the bleached bobs!!!!!!!!!
man. i had my hair bleach blonde a million years ago, but it was short SHORT (shorter than a pixie!), wonder how it would look with my skin tone??
i want to try!!!!
I love it too. I can’t go that light. Do it so I can live vicariously thru you lol. I have black eyebrows and dark hair and olivey skin and pink cheeks. I’ve got Lily Aldridges ombre color now.
This is pretty much my cut right now. It’s grown out a bit in the last month, but very similar. I love it! I can get away it letting it airdry and running my fingers through it. Or about 2 minutes of blowdrying and some detangler makes it super bouncy and cute. When I want to be sleek and fancy, it takes about 3 minutes with a straightener. It’s easy and adorable and I think you should go for it! That being said, I have a serious hankering to do something crazy with my hair……. somewhere between Miley Cyrus and Pink…….. with a few blonde streaks. I know, I’m nuts…..
LOVE this cut – I think it would look great on you!
It sounds like we’re all saying: “Grechen, go for it!” I’ve never experimented much with my hair, but got a glaze last week. My naturally wavy, kinda dull locks are now shiny, for the first time. I’m hooked. I won’t become a luxury-loving “Lady who Lunches,” but I’ll continue the treatment at home.
You know I am extremely pro-bob these days. I am not sure that I have ever seen you with the Zosia bob and you could definitely pull it off! But to play devil’s advocate, you are at the phase in the grow out where the temptation to cut is the worst- not long yet but you don’t have a defined “style” like when it was short. So consider whether it is just that “phase” talking π
For me personally, I’ve finally accepted that the best length for my hair is between chin and shoulder length. I’ve grown it out longer, but it doesn’t really suit me or do anything for my hair (my fine, wavy hair just droops). I play around with variations of bangs / no bangs and different layers and highlights, but have made peace with the fact that I look and feel best with this length.
I wish that whoorl.com still had Hair Thursday–you’d send in a picture of your current hairstyle, what you want, and she’d pick some suggested styles and readers would vote on the best option.
AHhh, I was obsessed with Hair Thursday- I want to bring it back! Maybe I can come up with a new version of it…
My problem EXACTLY!!! Hair that’s too thick, esp at the bottom and no one except my uber-expensive guy seems to know how to slice and texturizing enough for it to look and perform well. I’m like you, Grechen: Don’t do anything complicated with my hair, cuz I’m not going to be able to duplicate it. Hence, I now have helmet bob.
I love the shorter do’s on you. I think they bring your face up and highlight it …very pretty.
haha. i know. i am itching to do something different, but i think that’s just because its been growing out for a while. maybe i just want to be done growing it out, and not cut it? i do like the length as it is.
i should just leave well enough alone π
oh!!! do it cathy. i love crazy hairstyles!!
i never did hair thursday, but it sounds really cool – i vote for sarge bringing it back π
i think that’s the problem with my hair also, it never looks like in the “pictures” because it’s pretty fine and so straight it just hangs. if i use enough product or don’t wash it for long, it looks more texturized, but ultimately, it wouldn’t look like zosia’s cut –
yes! that would be so cool…
haha! i hated when i had helmut bob. and i felt like i did for a longggggg time…maybe that’s saying i shouldn’t go back? i think this length is pretty good, and it’s texturized enough to give it some definition on the ends, but when it’s shorter, it doesn’t look as “choppy” for some reason.
OK, so I’m going to take on the role of devil (or angel? Which one are you, Sarge?). It’s only hair, it grows out if you don’t like it. Plus, it wouldn’t have far to go if you wanted to grow it longer again. This time, it was from a pixie, so it seems like it’s taken forever. I think Zosia’s style would look fantastic on you, and shouldn’t we have FUN with our hair.? I seriously don’t get the thing in our culture about long hair being “IT” for a woman. I think it’s Giselle’s fault. ????
I’m going for braids!
you KNOW i’m not afraid to try new hair…i just wish it didn’t cost $$ every time, you know? π
and i realized i spelled helmet with a u – helmut. as in Lang, not topper for your head LOL
Haha! True dat! And “helmet,” as in head, gave me pause, too! Dang fashionistas…????????
Speaking of Helmut Lang, I’d been wanting one of his pieces forever. Unfortunately, they were way too pricey. Last week at Nordstrom Rack, I found a $320 tunic top for $20 in my size. SUPER SCORE!!! I did a little war whoop when I saw it, and I “waved my money around.” Damn, I’m good;).
My biggest problem is definitely texture too… us fine haired ladies have it rough. I am all about the Bumble and Bumble Texture cream + Oscar Blandi dry shampoo. I also just got this stuff and cannot wait to try it:

It’s official… I am going to work on a hair discussion series π
oh!!! you are good π
LOVE it lisa!
that looks interesting…and damn, it’s been a long time since i’ve been on MUA. so different! i used to be a regular on the fashion board there…
and obvi, i can’t wait for your hair discussion series!!
Sarge, I don’t know if you’ve ever used the Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo before, but I used to sell it at the boutique I worked at, and I had some problems with the nozzle on the spray version. It became clogged very easily, and seemed to run out of product very quickly. But that was a few years ago, so hopefully they’ve taken care of the quality control issues by now! (I liked the dry powder version, tho.)
i have that dry shampoo and don’t use it very often, so maybe that’s why it hasn’t gotten clogged, but i’ve never noticed a problem. i’ve had it for a couple years, actually. i also have the other one, the powder i guess, that comes in a plastic bottle with a narrow cone opening. i don’t use dry shampoo very often, because i feel like it weighs my hair down, and doesn’t do anything amazing for it. instead i’ve been using the oribe dry texturizing spray, which also doesn’t seem to be doing much, but i do like the way it smells π no, actually, i do like the way it looks the day AFTER i use it – after sleeping on it – and i read something somewhere about using dry shampoo on your hair at night instead of in the morning, and i really think that makes a difference…my hair is much more full in the AM after using a dry shampoo the day before. or the oribe spray.
I use the powder form and love it! The spray is not enough to keep my bang grease in check π
I have been wanting to try that Oribe Dry Texturing spray! I think it could work on the Zosia bob.
Iβm always having issues with my hair. I’m in that annoying growing out phase at the moment and am trying to decide whether to stick with it or have it cut shorter again. Short hair is much easier but I prefer my hair longer long as I can do more with it. But, I also feel like I have to do more with it when it’s longer. I dont’ know. Iβve been playing around with a fake bob recentlyβ¦I spotted this tutorial and it works really well. It might be a good way for you to see if you really like it before going for the chop?
