OMG. I must have fallen and hit my head or something, but I was just looking through dresses at Shopbop, and pieces that would have interested me just hours ago, I find myself calling “boring!” Why? Because I’ve had this Tiger print dress by Kenzo in the back of my head since seeing it on Hampden Clothing founder Stacy in an instagram. I also posted about the Kenzo Tiger print flats at Forzieri on Facebook yesterday. All of which I find INCREDIBLY interesting because not only do I NOT like prints, but I DO NOT like cats. But apparently I like tigers. And more importantly, I like tiger prints…WHO KNEW????

3/ Kenzo flying tigers satin flats | $370 at SSENSE
4/ Kenzo flying tiger tee | $154 at Forward by Elyse Walker

I think this print draws me in so much because of the colors – they’re sort of neutral, but also bright in their own way. And I can see styling these pieces in a very minimal way that would totally work for me. That dress for example – I’d wear it with my “beige” Dieppa Restrepo loafers and a black tote. Throw in a necklace with some spikes and it’s all good…
What do you think of this print? yay? or nay??

It also seems like the sheer number of pieces kind of adds to the appeal. One piece, meh. Tens upon tens, coo..
This is what I call the “If I Was Another Girl” moment… like, Oh, if I were this kind of girl, I’d totally wear this.
But every once in awhile, you have to say, “I AM that other girl” and just buy it.
So, um, do it.
true. there are TONS of pieces!
i KNOW!!!! i was just telling myself that this morning. why do i constantly see things on others and then say, “i can’t wear that!!” – i CAN wear that, and I will π you’re absolutely right, sometimes you just have to be that other girl…
thanks ashe!!
Grechen, who are you?! First talking about color and now you are eyeing prints!!
I say go for it, there is nothing wrong with trying something new and that print is definitely not boring at all. Spice it up a little.
I really like those sneakers, but I’m not a sneaker kind of gal.
haha. i know. it’s weird. but i think the tiger print kind of “fits” with my overall aesthetic in some strange way. mostly because the colors are fairly muted. or something. i don’t know. i can’t justify it! i just like them π
It’s funny, because I really identify with your, “I don’t wear prints” mentality. I don’t feel like I”m a girl who wears prints. I just don’t.
And yet… it’s less about “not wearing prints” and more about “not wearing all and every print.” I find they’re an area I’m super particular about. Maybe that’s what it is for you – that you just don’t find ENOUGH of the RIGHT prints in order to make it work.
And here you have. Just do it. (And I look forward to seeing it!)
WOWZA! Or should I say “Meow-za”?!?! π
