Sometimes I feel like a bad blogger. A boring blogger. Not even a blogger, really (please don’t call me a fashion blogger*). I’m just a person, gratefully doing what she loves to do. But as much as I wanted to work, and get some posts up the last couple of days, I had to give in to life, and just let it be for a bit.
Specifically, and I won’t harp on this again…any more than I already have, I have a very hard time being so far away from family during “holidays.” FOMO, and the idea that literally EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON in the United States is spending time with family, doing fun Fourth of July things overtakes me, and I have a bad day or two. I think the full moon might have something to do with it also.
Anyway, all is well, and then of course, when I’m out of my funk, I feel ridiculous. And more than a little ashamed to feel like I do, when I have such a beautiful life, and am lucky to have both of my parents still living. So chin up, and let’s move on.
I was also quite annoyed with my hair after the most recent cut. And since I talk about my hair A LOT here, I didn’t want to be all “poor me,” here’s how much I hate my expensive hair cut. As things do though, the new haircut just needed some getting used to, and now that I’m through the adjustment period, and using some better products on it, I am absolutely, 100% completely in love. My husband likes it too, which shocked me. And made me feel a lot better about it in the beginning.
So, once more, moving on. A few shopping-related things of note:
James Perse sale
Today is the last day for free shipping during the James Perse summer sale with code GRCHNSUMMER16 – You can use it on sale items and regular-priced items. I posted a quick review of the items I ordered in the forums since I don’t have any pictures (I won’t be taking any in the shorts and sports bra!), and honestly, I found the linen top to be quite underwhelming. I wanted to try it for my comprehensive linen post, and the linen is good quality overall, but I just felt like the top was NOT worth the price. Please add your review of what you received in the forums for right now. In a few days, I’ll do a post featuring more comprehensive reviews of what I got which you can add to as well.
Everlane
Everlane recently (out of the blue, totally unexpected) sent me the new cotton poplin cutaway tank to try (size 6), and I will post pictures later this week, but it is really wonderful. I am a huge fan of the new cotton poplin, and this cut/style/size is really perfect on me (something not easy for Everlane to achieve lately!). If you’ve been thinking about it, I’d urge you to try it. I won’t be keeping it, because while I love it, in theory, it doesn’t fit into my wardrobe very well. I REALLY REALLY wish it was black. or white. I still wouldn’t keep it though, because I don’t need it.
SLOWRE
Things were rather quiet at SLOWRE for a while without many new consignment items, but I’ve recently received a few shipments, and will be getting MANY more in soon (you’ll want to sign up for the newsletter to get on the list when THOSE arrive – so good!!). There are some new smaller size Everlane tees & sweaters up, a great pair of Nisolo shoes, and two pieces by Grana just up today, AND I’m offering free shipping on all orders this week with code SUMMER (US-shipping only though! sorry) – PLUS, I took some markdowns on a few items. If you are not in the US and want to order something I will still ship to you, but you’ll have to contact me about it first, and shipping will not be free. Sorry 🙁
I’m getting back into the swing of things now, only to leave for our big family vacation next weekend to Arkansas. I plan on getting some posts queued up for that week, and of course, in the middle of it all is the Nordstrom Anniversary sale (preview starts on 7/14), so I’ll cover that also. I don’t get really excited about that sale, because it’s mostly out-of-season items, but I do need a few new bras, and that’s a great sale for bras/underwear/activewear, so I’ll be shopping it early this year.
What about you, how was your weekend? Any exciting plans for the summer ahead?
*I’ve been getting a lot of traffic lately from a link in a forum entitled “worst fashion blogging pictures.” haha.
I got a few things from the JP sale that I really love: the high gauge shirred dress in kona is just lovely and so comfortable to wear. I wore it to work the other day and rec’vd a lot of compliments on it. I also got two V-neck slub tee’s–very nice, 1 long tank top–very form fitting which I like but the straps are a little long on me even tho I got the size 1, 2 pairs of the Yosemite shorts in each color they had–LOVE these!, and the vintage fleece sweat pants in the red-rock color-I’ve been practically living in these for the past 3 days! Overall, very happy with the pieces I got.
Dang, I didn’t even think of waiting for the Nordstrom Anniv sale, but over the weekend I finally got fitted for a bra. Never did this in my entire 48 years of life (!) and happy to find out I’m actually a D-cup and not a B-cup. Wow! I ended up buying 4 new bras and a couple panties but i’ll def check out the sale too.
Enjoy your family trip to Arkansas, Grechen!
i do love those yosemite shorts…they’re so comfortable. short though 🙂
I agree, the shorts are a little shorter than I’m used to. I’m self conscious with my thighs but the cut isn’t so unflattering that I would not wear them out in public ‘cuz I definitely plan to! 🙂 And yes, super comfy too.
Grechen, I feel like the 4th of July is the New Year’s Eve of summer. Everyone is having more fun than whatever we’re doing. 🙂
yes, i feel like that too…there’s just so my hype around it!
we had a very nice time though 🙂 and it was just fun enough for me!!
I hate my hair after I get it cut, colored, etc… Takes a week or more for me to like it!
yes, why does that happen??? in two weeks, LOVE it, but right after, I have such a hard time…
So funny…I’m the opposite of you two! I love it when I leave the salon, all sleekly blown-out, shiny and sexy. And then I attempt to blow it dry…..Can you say “Ball of Confusion”?!? 😉
I’ve tried to bribe my stylist to move in with me for free as long as he’d fix my hair every morning, but it’s a no-go.
As to Everlane, there’s a shirt I want, but I think it’s sold out. Do they ever restock?
No plans but work, and loving that my middle daughter, Rachel, is home with us until she heads off to the Peace Corps for 2 and 1/2 years. She loves to cook, and we’re beach buddies. I’m so proud of her being willing to say goodbye to the safety of her well-paying job in order to live out her dream!
Grechen, re: the blogger photo thing….I will never cease to be amazed at the depths to which people are willing to sink. What if they put all of that extra time they spend criticizing toward doing something beneficial to the world?!? Love you! XOX
good for rachel! that’s so exciting, you should be very proud. i wanted to go into the peace corps when i was her age, but i was probably too scared…but those are the things that really make us grow!
i think everlane restocks, which shirt are you interested in? usually if they sold out really fast, they’ll add a waitlist, and you can be notified when your size is back in stock, or maybe even pre-order it.
re: hair – i never like my hair when it’s freshly washed, so maybe that’s part of my problem…i like it messy and DIRTY LOL
I’m wait listed for the Cotton Poplin Square shirt in Navy. The more I look at it, the more I like it. A true sign that I’m supposed to buy!
Hi Grechen! I just read your last post (the EF linen outfit) and was just about to comment on how adorable your new haircut is. Just curious, where are you going in Arkansas? I great up there (close to Eureka Springs and NWA) but I live in Hawaii now, so I DEFINITELY feel you on the missing-family-during-holidays thing.
Best,
Erin
thanks erin 🙂
we are going to greers ferry lake, which is sort of in the mountains? north east i think?
all we knew was that we wanted to go to arkansas, and we needed to rent a house that would sleep at least 12, so we narrowed it down to this one!
we’re really looking forward to it…it looks beautiful!
Lovely! Enjoy it!
thank you!! (and i’ve been spending time on your blog just now, i love it! i was seriously thinking after we moved to dallas of a career shift and becoming a RD…i still am pretty passionate about nutrition/exercise, but don’t have much time for much else atm!! )
