We’re having some strange August weather lately: it’s not hot. Well, it’s hot, but before the rain moved in, it was 102 degrees; blistering hot. Now, the sun only peeks out for a few minutes a day, and it’s staying in the mid-80’s. I’m not complaining about the temperature, but I do miss the sun…
So here’s another way to wear the Lina Rennell cotton cardigan : closed, as a top. I think I like this more in theory than I do in reality – honestly, it feels a bit more feminine than I’m used to. Which is not a bad thing, but not something I’m really confident wearing in general. It’s quite a bit out of my comfort zone. But I tried, and live to tell about it 😉
If you are so inclined, however, this cardigan works very well as a top. It’s low-cut, and requires a low cut bra (I’m wearing my Natori Feathers bra – LOVE!), and there’s only a teeny gap between the bottom buttons, but not so much you can see anything in real life.
And I’m still loving all my Eileen Fisher linen, a lot of which is on sale various places. Here are some of my picks over at Grechen’s Codes today. Along with a $25 off coupon for Eileen Fisher.
Happy Friday!! I’ll be spending the weekend getting a lot of new stuff up on SLOWRE, what do you have planned??
Love this look – you’re right, I’m not “used” to this on you. Looks great – but I understand things not feeling like “you” simply because you’re not used to seeing the shape or color or whatever. I have an older pair of wide black linen Eileen Fisher pants – thrifted – and I’ve been wearing them with a black tank and black birkenstocks quite a bit this summer. I have some orange leather espadrilles I really wanted to wear with that outfit but due to my ongoing heel pain (PF) I’m choosing not to wear shoes that aren’t supportive to try to recover/prevent new pain 😉
Waiting on delivery of a 3rd attempt at a black linen long cardigan 😉 Tried an Eileen Fisher from NM – too long on me so I returned – and a Halogen from Nordstrom – just didn’t like. Have ordered the Eileen Fisher cocoon from Saks Off Fifth. Fingers crossed 🙂
This weekend – weeding, brewing, and planting some fall veggie seeds 🙂
I get it that this outfit doesn’t feel like you, Grechen, but it still looks great! Actually, it would feel like me with that dash of the feminine that the little sweater gives. I’ve been considering getting it because that shaped sweater is hard to find…..and I love 3/4 sleeves. I have a navy one of similar design by Tory Burch that I’ve worn out, which is rare for me with most clothing items. It’s a great topper over my maxi’s. Maybe I should go for it. What color would you call your sweater? Do you think it would be good sizing for my XS top half? Eileen Fisher seems to work so well for you, but that is a brand I am never able to wear. The fabrics are wonderful, but the cuts are not flattering on me at all. Too bad. Have a slow weekend! xoxo
Ok. Gotta admit, I’m a bit confused. It’s essentially a top and a pair of pants. Simple, yes? Neutral? Yes. Wide cut pants, narrow cut top? AHA! That’s it. You usually do wide over wide. It’s good to step outside of our comfort zones once in awhile, otherwise we become stale. I find it extremely minimalist, not overtly feminine, and quite flattering on you. What’s not to love?
haha. point taken !
it’s good, yes, just not something i would normally wear, you know? i wouldn’t normally wear a cardigan as a top, i’d throw it on over a t-shirt or a dress.
it’s very hard for me to find good cropped tops also – they’re always too long on me. this one is pretty perfect though!
the color is sort of a peachy-nude if that makes sense. she calls it “cashew” which is pretty accurate except with a more peach tone to it.
i think it would fit you, since it’s 100% cotton it does stretch to accommodate many shapes, but is rather small-ish at the beginning.
i think eileen fisher is so hard to fit, the more i try. there are many styles i just don’t like on me at all, and others i do. it takes a lot of trial and error…
wow, you’ve been looking for that cardigan forever!! hope this time’s a charm!
I think it’s spectacularly good! Really!
I wholeheartedly agree!!!
I think so much of what confuses me personally in matters of personal style is that as women we’re taught to to ask “how does this look?” when a large part of our psychological comfort in an outfit comes from little things that are invisible to others. If it were me in this outfit (which, I agree, looks terrific on you!) it would make all the difference to be wearing an invisible layer under that cardigan. Even though nobody but me would know it was there!
I should clarify… invisible when the cardigan is buttoned up. Not like an actually invisible garment 🙂
Haha, Claire! I think that’s a great idea. (The actual invisible garment 😉 )
Grechen-
You look better in the cardigan than the model for the company does-
wish I could say it’s not hot here in NY
hope all is well
