thank you for fueling my JP addiction, Grechen! I just bought the sweat pants and one of the V-neck tee’s. I cannot get enough of James Perse and with free shipping—woohoo! 🙂
okay, bit the bullet on the shirred dress in kona too. Thanks Grechen!
Thanks, Gretchen! I’m looking at the Raglan Dolman sleeve dress for hanging around the house. Because its roomy I imagine I could size down from my usual JP 1 to a 0. Yes? Even though it has raglan sleeves could I top it with a sweater if needed?
Yes. Size down. I am normally a size 2 and got a size 1 in it. And then had it hemmed just a bit shorter. You could top it with a cardigan more easily than a pullover, but either should still work. Although I’ll admit I haven’t tried it…
Yay. I really like that dress
Ok, great. Forgot to ask…do the pockets poof out around the thighs? I have saddlebags and avoid extra wideness around the thigh area.
on me, the pockets do pouf out a bit but more at the hips, although more often i notice it more in the front because it’s a “kangaroo” style pocket. i tend to reserve this dress for wearing very casually, actually i love it as a house dress in the fall/late summer when the AC is killing me. it’s ridiculously comfortable…
I’m looking at the vintage long sleeve sweatshirt in size 4. Will it fit a size 12-14????
Thanks Grechen!! So excited to have ordered the Raglan Dolman sleeve dress! (I sized down to size 1 as per your suggestion.) I love this dress on you so much and it’s been on my radar ever since. Btw is the dress long-sleeves or 3/4 sleeves?

I would appreciate any fit feedback (HONEST!) on whether or not these items could fit a size 12-14.
I have not purchased any James Perse before but am really interested in the leggings. I normally wear a size 8 in pants/medium in most yoga pants, what size do you think I should order? A 2 or 3?
Thanks!
Yes!! Those fleece 100% cotton pieces also stretch out a lot in my experience
3/4 sleeves
2 – I am a size 28/29 in jeans , sometimes 6-8 or medium and I wear a size 2 comfortably Love them so much!!
I think the dress would and the sweatshirt – not sure about the chiffon tunic. I didn’t try that one in, but I tried on another tunic and it fit sort of strangely.
The tank…I honestly couldn’t say. All I can say is that as a 12-14 I wore a lot of James Perse size 4….but it was trial and error to see what fit my body.
Hope someone else has some input!!
Thanks so much Gretchen! I have never tried the Yosemite line and would like to but have no idea what size to get. I normally wear and XS unless it runs small and then I size up to a small. Do you think I should do a 0 or 1? I’m specifically thinking about the yoga pants and the rash guards.
Oops, forgot to ask about the sheer slub side panel. I’ve heard it runs small.
Thanks so much for your input, Grechen. You know you’re my James Perse guru!
Got it!!! 🙂
I went ahead and ordered the 0 in the Raglan Dolman, and like you, I’ll wear it as a comfy house dress. Thanks so much for the free shipping code!
Hey Grechen,
Do those shearling lined Birkenstocks turn your feet black?
Also, any information on the soft knit flare dress? I’m wondering if it runs TTS.
yes, i remember the shoes stained my feet a little in the beginning. but stained is too “harsh” a word, when i would take them off, my feet had some black fuzzies on them, and maybe a little staining, but nothing remotely permanent.
i would take my true size in that dress – it’s the same “moleskine” fabric as my hooded dress; sort of heavier-weight, and body hugging, but not super-tight.
i actually thought the slub side panel shirt ran bigger overall than the regular cotton one, but only that it tends to “give” a little more. i wouldn’t size up in it necessarily – that would make the deep v in the front even deeper i think!
i think you should stick to your true size, what you “normally” buy – so a 0?
OK you got me… I ordered the Raglan Dolman dress in my usual size 2 since I’m pretty curvy… Fingers crossed it works, I suppose if it doesn’t I can ask Grechen about posting it in slowre!
Don’t mean to put a damper on the fun, but I’m really disappointed in JP right now. They won’t let me use your promotional code, the Canadian site is down (they promised it would be fixed in 30 mins 3 hours ago), and they won’t allow me to place an order or put a hold on an item while it is being fixed. What is even more frustrating is that I pre-ordered one of the items now on sale months ago, and never heard back or saw the item on the site. Surely that should give me some love, but no.
yay!! i hope it works for you…
ugh. i’m sorry. they have always seemed to have problems with their canadian site/shopping i seem to remember, i’m disappointed that’s happening to you! i will ask my contact if i can have a code for the canadian site and let you know 🙂 maybe that will help a little? assuming they’ll provide one…
Oh Grechen! I hope you (OR ANYONE else) might please help me or help talk some sense into me…I discovered James Perse when I chanced upon your lovely and informative blog ~I year ago and I found your aesthetic relatable and inspiring and have since been lurking here as well as eyeing a number of J. Perse items (most especially the dresses) but just could not in good conscious commit to that amount of money right now. Well when I saw this post on Monday evening I was all ready to pull the trigger on a couple of items – esp. the high gauge shirred dress and the low back skinny.
My issue is I have never tried any of that brand on nor even laid my hands on it and because the sale is final with no exchanges I am conflicted as to what size (or should I just pass for now). I am 5’7″ 120lbs, 34B with a log torso and mildly hourglass and although it would seem I should order a 1, according to the customer service/stylist I chatted with on the James Perse site, the models are wearing a 2 (I was surprised). I seem to wear a size S or a 4 most of the time but sometimes a M just hangs better or is better suited for my casual office without being too fitted and seeming better for a date-night especially if it is a bodycon dress/skirt . Can you offer any insight
Thank-you Grechen! I really don’t think there is anything to be done, it’s just one of those things. It turned out that the reason I couldn’t order was because ONE of the items in my basket could not be shipped internationally (uses endangered species products? doesn’t meet safety standards? has a deal with another company not to ship by email into their market? who knows.) It took them ages to find out that was the problem, and then ages to figure out which item it was. Really? I have encountered items that aren’t shippable to Canada before, but it is always clearly listed as such, and can’t even be put in the basket. Note to JP: Hire some d..m website design people.
I know you asked Grechen, but let me put in my two cents before she weighs in. Don’t believe the customer service people. They seem to be as confused as the IT people (see my post above.) They wanted to put me into a 4. I’m slightly smaller than Grechen. She takes a 2 or 1. You are taller and skinnier than either of us. I would suggest you take a 1 or 0 depending on how you want the dress to fit. I have a skinny in both the 2 and the 1. I like the fit of the 1 better in the skinny on me, even though I never, never, never, buy form fitting clothes anymore. It is indeed like a second skin, but in my view it looks a little more polished as it has a bit less material/ruching. When I wear either dress, my husband offers to take me out and he changes out of his running gear and puts on real pants. Usually he only does that for weddings and funerals. Buy it. But wait for Grechen on the sizing. She’s more experienced than me. Grechen, you have a lot of ‘splaining to do, what with turning us on to tempting clothes we can’t afford! 😉
Kathryn,
Your reply and input is much appreciated! I am sitting here with a couple of items in size 1 sitting in the cart and just trying to pause and be sensible. It is really very kind of you to take the time to be so helpful.
I’m on the phone so pardon any mistakes please! I would honestly take a 1 if I were you. And Kathryn’s comments were spot on I think – I don’t know what’s with the sizing advice… I found the shirred dress to be more snug on bottom than other dresses, and my inclination was to size up in it, but I liked the overall fit better in the 2 – even with my hips. The skinny low back dress isn’t as snug, but still fitted, maybe slightly more casual? I’d take the same size in both though…maybe will write more tomorrow when I have a larger keyboard 😉
Received my raglan sweatshirt today, but didn’t get a chance to try it in yet. I like the color: rhubarb.
Hi there,
I love James Perse & I have a few items in my basket but I have a question about sizing as everything is final sale…Has anyone tried the soft drape pants? If so how does the size 1 compare with size 2? I really like the silver fox color but it is only available in the size 2. Also with the cashmere sweaters does the size 1 fit like a small? The v necks look slightly oversized…I am usually size small/4 in most tops…thank you in advance for any feedback!
Anne
But oddly I am a size 4 in the v neck t shirts & a size 2/3 in the crew neck t shirts…thanks again!
hi anne! so sorry for my late reply on this.
i have not tried the soft drape pants, but in my experience with JP pants they tend to stretch out a lot, almost enough to size down in. BUT…the only one’s i’ve owned have been 100% cotton or a higher cotton % than these, so these will probably be different. i usually take a JP size 2 in everything, and would still do so in the pants because of my larger legs –
as for the cashmere sweaters – i do think the size 1 fits like a small – i’m a size small/medium/6 in tops, 29 denim, and 2 in James Perse and i would order a 2 in the cashmere sweater
(the t-shirts tend to fit smaller than the sweaters i think)
Thank you for the feedback! I really enjoy your blog!
Also is the free shipping code still valid? I just tried to use it but it didn’t work.
Thanks again!
no, sorry, the free shipping code expired on 7/5!
