James Perse Giveaway!

by grechen on May 4, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

Yes, ladies, that’s free James Perse! For three of you anyway…:)

You know how much I love James Perse, in fact, if I had to live in one designer for the rest of my life, it would be James Perse (I probably already could). I’m a basics kinda girl, and hands down, James Perse makes the best basics. If you’re like me, and your wardrobe is mostly pretty casual, you need to be able to depend on your them to hold up and keep their shape over time.

Basics

Just because they’re “basics” – maybe they’re what you wear on the weekends or after work – doesn’t mean they should be cheap. Actually, your basics should be what you invest in, they are the building blocks of your entire wardrobe; and they’re probably what you wear the most over time if you think about it. In my opinion, most of your shopping budget should go towards good basics like tees, tanks and cardigans, a casual button down shirt, a dress, a killer pair of jeans, and casual pants/skirts. Spend the rest on trends and “fun” stuff you don’t necessarily want to wear 5 years from now…

What to invest in

I was asked on twitter the other day what James Perse pieces a reader should invest in just starting out – which is a great question actually, because there are SO many styles out there, it’s tough to sort them out.

Casual T - $50

Casual T - $50

SUPIMA LONG TANK - $45

SUPIMA LONG TANK - $45

Maxi Sundress - $155

Maxi Sundress - $155

Casual T – I have 5 different colors of this tee: heather, white, olympic, cloud, and black because they’re seriously my favorite tees ever. I can’t even describe how soft they are and the shape is perfect. If I wanted the tee to be more fitted, I would size down, but this is supposed to be a more relaxed fit. The scoop neck is also great.

Supima Long Tank – I have five of these also: black, canary, azalea, julep, and pacific. The strap size is perfect to hide bra straps, the material is exquisitely soft, and I like the long – but not too long – length. I’d love to have one in every color…I’m getting there!

Maxi sundress – No matter if you love or hate the maxi dress, you have to have at least one…I mean, this is the best dress to wear for a day of shopping, lounging, or whatever. I have the black and navy maxi dresses and I wear them all the time in the Summer, either alone, layered over v-necks or with a cardigan over.

If you’re just starting out with James Perse, these are the pieces I would recommend trying first. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be posting outfit pictures with all of my James Perse pieces, along with recommendations and favorites. So stay tuned!! (see outfits-of-the-day starting May 4 for all my James Perse outfits!)

I’d like to share a recent JP purchase: this contrast panel shirt–

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3919/perseshirtgrey.jpg

I love love love it! The main material is neither the slub knit nor the woven cotton, so I do not see it on JP’s website, but the design is the same.

Great contest, Grechen!

grechen May 17, 2009 at 4:36 pm

sarah, i love it!!! you look so great in that shirt, i especially love that you styled it with white pants, the contrast is very chic :)

Julie May 16, 2009 at 1:57 pm

I have a few pieces, but my favorite by far is the empire sundress, in black. I can wear it through spring, summer and fall by changing jewelry and shoes, or layering over/under tees, tights, and cardigans. It also packs incredibly well for vacations. It’s definitely my go-to attire when I don’t feel like thinking too hard about what to put on, but still end up looking like I planned an outfit.

Additional plus for the petite/shorter gals – the length is just right. I’m only 5′ 2″ and look overwhelmed by fabric in the maxi dress.

Samantha Aluse May 16, 2009 at 6:56 pm

I love that Empire Sundress in Ink – I had never been to that site before. Thanks for the tip!

Deborah May 16, 2009 at 8:02 pm

I am in LOVE with the Nightie Dress!! bamboo, nylon & silk – what a fab combination! That’s what I’d buy if I win this gift certificate – I’d get one in white and one in black. :)

Lisa May 16, 2009 at 8:48 pm
