I guess you could say I’m warming up to the online sample sale sites a little bit…the prices are usually really great, and the selection pretty good. Of course, most of the time it’s not the most popular pieces in the collection that end up on sample sale sites, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not worthy. I found a few things at the Marc by Marc Jacobs sale at Rue La La last week that really tempted me, but I didn’t end up buying anything because of my buying on sale rule: don’t buy anything on sale you wouldn’t have paid full price for.
I came up with that rule after cleaning out my closet several years ago and getting rid of SO MANY things I bought on sale at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack…you name it…that I NEVER wore; It was the price of the item that enticed me to buy it, not the item itself. Sure, that rule doesn’t always hold true, and it’s more about the value of the item than the price (if you think the full price of the item represents the value of the item to you), but that’s generally a rule I shop by.
So, when I browse sample sale sites, I try very hard to only stick with designers I know work for me and will fit my lifestyle. Like James Perse. I’m scheduled to check out the James Perse sale tonight at 9PM EST on Gilt (it’s on my iCal w/alarm LOL) and although I didn’t find anything at the last James Perse Sample sale, I hold out hope that I’ll find something I can incorporate into my already bursting at the seams wardrobe full of JP!

Thanks for the heads up on the James Perse sale. For me, since I never buy anything at full-price (I don’t even look at full priced items most of the time unless its an indie brand), its hard for me to gauge if I would buy it or not.
I’m glad this sale is at 9:00PM and not 9:00AM EST like some of the other sales are. Its a little difficult for me to get up at 6:00AM PST for sample sales, LOL!

oooh thanks for the head’s up, I just got four JP tops thanks to you!!! I agree with the sale price allure . . . I bought many things on sale in the past which I never wore and ended up having to eBay them away.
oh wow!! congratulations, i couldn’t find anything really compelling…the only thing i did want, was “in member’s carts” and then sold out
frustrating….

His clothing appears there periodically.
