If Katie’s pegged jeans and LnA’s zipper leggings hadn’t convinced you already, these will:
If you are old enough to have lived 80’s fashion in all it’s glory the first time around, you will appreciate the horror with which I view it’s return. I never cease to be mortified looking at pictures of myself during the 80’s, because of course, I participated in every trend (except the pegged jeans, but that was really early 90’s). I had a pair of Guess jeans with the zippers at the ankle – arguably the first “skinny” jeans, I had a Members Only jacket – although it was boxy and a strange blue/grey color, and I LOVED my half-shirts. I remember going to a birthday party and ALL of the girls and boys were wearing half shirts – some had been purchased that way, and others had been cut. Ah, those were the days. I can’t say I didn’t love it then, but looking back, I am horrified at the things we wore. Parachute pants? Shoulder pads? Oversized blazers? Ugh. And I won’t even mention my hair…
The return of all of these trends have taken on a life of their own, the Members Only jackets are more fitted and modern, the half-shirt from Scout pictured above is more contemporary, and made from modal, and the pegged jeans…well, now they cost more than $200. It’s kind of fun, honestly, to see new interpretations of old trends I actually lived through the first time around. But I won’t be doing them again. I won’t begrudge anyone else from re-living 80’s fashion (although, “they” do say that if you’re old enough to have done the trend the first time, you’re too old to do it the second time), but I’m not convinced any of the looks are actually flattering – ESPECIALLY the pegged jean, unless you’re a teenager…
But that’s just my opinion…what’s yours?
