re/done reconstructed vintage Champion sweatshirt
Thank you re/done for what you do to bring life back to discarded clothing, but I draw the line at pre-stained. WTF?
You know that joke/not joke we tell our significant others when we wear ripped jeans: “I paid extra for those holes!!”? While, yes, I have been known to pay a premium for nicely pre-distressed denim, I would NOT pay such a premium for stains. The sweatshirt is more than $200. I could MAYBE understand $50. MAYBE.
I love what re/done has done to “modernize” vintage Levi’s and make mom jeans cool again; I’ve tried and failed to find a pair that fit me (they run ridiculously small. And I can even get behind “tweaking” the old standby Champion sweatshirt (you can see when you zoom in that they’ve added panels at the shoulders) to make it something special, but couldn’t they find one without a stain on it? or is that the new thing?
Just a thought.
As Zippy The Prinhead once said “find a need and fool it.”
haha. yes. hopefully it’s just this one with the stain on it. but honestly, i’m wondering if it might turn into a thing – wearing clothes with stains on them. it wouldn’t surprise me!
You made me look (and laugh!). Honestly, you can’t even donate stained clothing to the thrift store….at my local thrift, an unstained version of this would cost $5. Of course, paint splatter (I’m talking to you JCrew,) seems to be an exception.
Damn, if they need someone to “pre-stain” tops for them I’d could take care of one a night and more on weekends when I’m cooking. Where do I apply for that job?
haha! right?
Totally, Kathryn! I don’t even know how I feel about the JCrew thing. If paint on shirts is going to be a thing, I’d rather do it myself.
No kidding, is it April1?
If only I had saved all my stained shirts I could be stylish!
I feel a lot like my grandmother when I see crap like this. 😉
I could pre-stain shirts while I’m taking care of my toddler! Maybe we should start a business…
That looks like one of those annoying dryer stains that show up mysteriously on my clothes, and I can’t quite figure out how to prevent or get rid of them (short of getting new appliances). I guess that means I’m fashionable now…
Hahaha, exactly my thought, too. And it is interesting that the particular area is usually where those mysterious spots appear. Champion brand no less,! Ridiculous fashion.
ok. i swear i didn’t plan this, but i’m wearing my acne sweatshirt today and went to change to take dagny out and I HAVE TWO STAINS (probably from my salad dressing/oil) on the front of it. ugh. i should wear a bib. or an apron.
T his really does seem to be something the Onion would come up with, Zanna 🙂 “trend report: food stains, house paint make a splash at NY Fashion Week”
so good….
I won’t wear anything stained, even a little stain (including sun stains) so ugh, agreed. I will live with little tears or holes on casual pieces if in an unnoticeable area.
That’s (partly) why I wear black or navy all the time, so stains don’t show!! Haha, guess I’ll never be fashionable!
On the other hand, Re/Done jeans was my significant purchase this month. (When you find a pair that fits, it’s really really flattering!)
I think they’re overpriced generally. I get like 180 for a pair of jeans, but over 200 for worn jeans, even ones that have been reworked, seems a bit over the top.
That sweatshirt reminds me of my dad. He probably has a pre-stained Champion sweatshirt he can lend me!
Haha! perfect analogy.
This smacks of “The Emporer’s New Clothes”!
I can stain my own clothes, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Seriously, just take me to a meal. I will get something dirty in no time at all. Give me your shirt to wear and I’ll totally, fashionably pre-stain it for you. It’s a gift. I’m an artist.
Spots seem like an opportunity to employ embroidery or Sashiko. Fleece is awfully hard to treat for a grease spot, granted, but if re/done is going to go to the trouble of adding panels at the shoulders why not spend a few minutes more on the body of the garment? It doesn’t look intentional nor ironic just slovenly.
yes! that would have been lovely.
