As I mentioned in my Not a Gift Guide post, my gift-giving philosophy is that generally I stick to buying what the recipient really wants/needs, so my gifts are neither very thoughtful, or surprising. We are very practical, my family…
But I can’t say I don’t want to be just a little more frivolous in my gift-giving. Not exactly frivolous, but not ONLY giving people EXACTLY what they ask for either; I’d love to give more gifts of the sort that one wouldn’t normally “splurge” on themselves, for example.
And some of my favorite gifts to give are ones that have a story behind them. Who doesn’t love a story?? Even when I shop for myself, I am drawn towards items that have meaning, and that will enrich my life somehow, why shouldn’t gifts as well? And all of the gifts above serve to enrich the lives of others too, either the entrepreneur, the community or individual artisans. Whenever I can support a fellow entrepreneur on his/her journey towards doing something they love, and that has value, I will try to do it.
Most of the gifts I’ve selected are also friendly to the environment, to people, and to animals. They’re generally made in the US, and best of all, they are things that not everyone will have (my favorite kind of gift!).
Please enjoy the gifts I’ve chosen from Zady (don’t forget to use code GRECHEN15 for 15% off your order!!), and let me know more about the gifts you’re buying this holiday season. Do you stick to practical? Or do you give “fun” gifts?
Even more good gifts…

This is NOT a sponsored post. Zady is a Grechen’s Closet partner and I admire their mission & products, so I wanted to build a gift guide around them. That is all.
I wish the dog leash were actually a bracelet. I love the ombré fade!
haha! i know. i thought that too…but i do really love the leashes/collars. i’m so tempted to get one for dagny!
I’m against practical, because I feel like presents shouldn’t be “needs” or things you’d buy for yourself, but rather, something special that you wouldn’t think of treating yourself to. My husband completely disagrees with this point of view, so I compromise with him and get him a few needs and throw in a few surprises.
I LOVE to be surprised with something unique, totally impractical, like a $50 lipstick or a Chan Luu cashmere/silk scarf for $190. Not that those things ever happen! But I’d love it if they showed up in my stocking.
It’s really exciting for me to give what I think is the “perfect” gift for each person I buy for, which can lead to let-down when I don’t get the expected or hoped for reaction. But I’m just as excited to receive what I can tell is a thoughtful gift from my girls or my husband. I like to know that they made some effort!
