It’s funny (not funny) how life happens while you’re busy making other plans. So true, isn’t it?? I am leaving town tomorrow to go to Florida for a visit with my dad and scheduled a platform class at pure barre at 8:15 to get a good cardio workout in before taking a few days off.
And since I’m going to the studio that’s farther away from my house I left 45 minutes early to give myself enough time to arrive 20 minutes before class (I have to get my spot…). Well that didn’t work out AT ALL.
Instead of platform I sat in traffic for nearly an hour. Standstill traffic. The kind you can’t get away from no matter what.
After freaking out for a moment and fighting back tears (so dramatic…I know…), I remembered that we were all suffering there together. Some people sitting in traffic probably had much more important places to go than Pure Barre, and there was nothing any of us could do about it.
But I had my whole day planned around getting cardio in early, and then not having to rush the rest of the day to get packed, queue up new arrivals for slowre for next Tuesday while I’m still out of town, and clean house, etc. So I sat in my moment, feeling angry and upset for a few minutes, and then let it go.
I’m still here, unharmed and healthy and going to visit with my father and step-mom tomorrow. I have nothing to complain about, and indeed am so grateful for this moment.
I’m also grateful, as hard as it was, for the reminder that nothing is ever set in stone and no matter how hard we try, we cannot really plan our lives.
Anyway…this is an abbreviated version of what I was going to write today because I don’t have as much time as I thought I would. You probably didn’t even notice LOL
Wearing
Ah, that Eileen Fisher jacket. I was going to wear the outfit above yesterday, but changed out of the jacket for a cashmere cardigan because I was FREEZING before I left the house. Turns out the jacket would have been perfect, as it warmed up a little, but anyway, I’ve decided to keep it. I did take the silk pants back, but I’ve regretted it. Ugh.
Reading
Elizabeth and James – I’ve always wished that Elizabeth & James would be more like a more affordable version of The Row, and now, it appears it’s moving in that direction.
This is a super-long read, but interesting, about Patagonia and The North Face, and their similar beginnings, yet differences now.
Shopping
I have two dresses coming from James Perse today and as soon as I receive them I’ll get a quick post up with pictures so if you have any questions you can ask before the free shipping ends on Sunday. I also tried on a few dresses in the store yesterday and was NOT impressed. More on that later!!
Oh, and since I recently made THREE terrible shoe mistakes (they’re all up on slowre now, one pair is already sold), I’m happy to report that these EYTYS sneakers (size 39 on sale via Amazon) are working out nicely. I’m wearing the size 39 with an insole and socks. I usually take a 38 but reviews of this shoe mentioned to size up, and while it’s still a little big, my feet do swell a little in summer, and they’re very comfortable with an insole and socks, so the 39 worked out well. I got these because I wanted canvas, NO leather at all, and a little platform. They’re super-cute on me too, even with my thicker calves. Definitely recommend.
Happy Friday!!! I hope you enjoy your weekend 🙂
Yes!!!!! Perfect!!!!!
🙂
Is one of the JP dresses you’re reviewing the linen shirt dress? It is EXACTLY what I have been searching for but I’m unsure if I should stick with my normal size 2 or size up.
yes, i tried that one on in the size 2 and it was much too small/too short for me. i didn’t have time to try on the larger size, but it definitely would have fit better. still too short for me though. the problem with that dress is that it’s linen, so it WILL stretch, so you have to decide how much you’re willing to work with, you know? oh, and the sleeves were WAY snug on me in the arms, but i have flabby upper arms.
my gut says to size up. but if you get it i would definitely wear it around a bit before deciding to keep it to see how much it’ll stretch.
Okay thanks! My shoulders are on the broad-ish side (my body is a 4-6, my shoulders more like an 8), so sounds like a 3 is the way to go. Thank you!
oh, definitely then. i love that they’ve included a slip this year….
I can’t get over how much better that jacket looks here than it does on the website. Love this outfit!
just because i am obsessed with talking about silk pants right now, I am SO curious on how the EF silk pants were different from ES. Is the cut different, or the material, or both?
haha!! i liked the silk of the elizabeth suzann pants better, but the waistband on eileen fisher is more narrow, which i like. and the EF pants are slimmer, straighter – not so wide, which i sort of prefer. and they fit better on me, but i probably just didn’t have the right size in the ES pants. but they didn’t fit PERFECTLY, which is why i took them back: they were a little big in the hips/waist and not as short as i wanted.
thanks for clarifying! luckily the EF pants don’t come in navy, which is the color I want, so I don’t have an opportunity to waffle. I love the ES ones anyway and have no complaints yet, so why am I looking for one…?
you don’t have to explain 🙂 i do the same thing!!!! i am always comparing.
You never responded to my recent question “Why are you so obsessed with what to wear?” Maybe you don’t answer critical comments on conspicuous consumption.
Hi Grechen-
HAppy St. Patrick’s Day !
We have all been there, waiting for a sick passenger on a train to get picked up is a similar commuter problem in the city. I rember going through the same thought process and what I do now is repeat an affirmation that clears my mind from negative chatter. A good one I got from Louise Hay: I trust the process of life to bring me my highest good. That’s what you did, after some time and now you can get to calmer and grateful faster.
Thank you for being so honest always
Today’s outfit on you is another I wish I was wearing today too! Score, love the kicks, are they heavy or awkward with the thicker sole?
Also thank you for the ES Harper Tunic headsup about the fabric, I asked if they could make it in the raw silk, I’ll keep you posted 🙂
Have a great time with Dad, g
i didn’t think you wanted an honest answer, and i still don’t think you’re truly interested. i think you’re just judging me. you can judge me, people do, but i don’t have to indulge it.
I love the jacket styled this way! Makes me want one, too.
Glad you decided to keep the jacket – really like it (and how you’re wearing it here!)
Love the canvas bag! The whole outfit, YES. I know this is a late entry. Do you remember the name or brand of the bag? Thanks!
it’s linked in my outfit details, it’s the mini canvas tote by james perse, but i don’t think this color is still available
