Eileen Fisher Organic Linen dress (a couple years old)
Vince Blair sneakers
Wearing/Shopping
Eileen Fisher is offering 15% off regular-priced styles with code EMAIL18 through the weekend and I’ve been thinking about a couple of things.
I REALLY love the morse code “robe” (above) and it is a nice length on me in the petite size small, but I’m not confident I’d wear it enough to make it worth while. It would be a very nice actual robe though LOL.
I tried on this jumpsuit because I LOVE IT SO MUCH, but it was much too large on me up top, even in the XS, and the back zip is just too much to deal with – WHY put a back zip on a jumpsuit??
This striped hemp/organic cotton sweater is similar to the reclaimed hemp sweater I got earlier this year, but a little heavier I think. I’m not getting it, but my mother is 😉 – I recommend it for a nice mid-weight layer if you’re looking for something like that.
This kimono jacket always catches my eye in the store although it is quite simple. It would be a great piece for traveling (my mom has a few pairs of the silk crepe pants she wears constantly while traveling; she’s taking them to Scotland next week) since it’s easily washable and resists wrinkling.
Finally, I am VERY intrigued by these sneakers – maybe white? maybe black? – but I have not had great luck with Eileen Fisher shoes in the past. I may try them anyway just to see. I love how sustainable they are, and that the back slips down to wear as slides. (I can’t resist a slide…)
Ace & Jig is launching new fall arrivals today and I’m really interested in buying a piece. Even though I returned everything I tried so far, I do have a deep appreciation for the textiles and the work that goes into them. I’m starting to get it 🙂 The problem is the sizing. I did try the heights jumper in fiesta and ordered both the small and the medium and the fit of both was horrible on me; I would have needed the large for it to fit me like I wanted it to, and even so I’m not sure it would have worked. BUT, the textile was AMAZING. Barney’s has some new items on pre-sale BTW. Ugh..I’m sort of intrigued by this reversible jacket…and this martinique textile – this casey dress specifically…okay update: I ordered the casey dress in martinique from Covet & Lou in size small. Yipee!! Oh, and another update, I ordered the bo skirt in tuxedo. Also small. I wonder if that will be too small for me though. We’ll see. I had to try!!!
Casey dress in Martinique – still available in Large!
I put this Mara Hoffman hemp/organic cotton dress in my cart at Garmentory (use my referral link and get a $20 account credit!) so I can dream about it….
I am also very intrigued by this tank and this tee at Doen. In this maple color. I’m not sure I’m down with the whole Doen vibe though…
Ha. It’s August and I’m ready for summer to be over, hence all the shopping. I alway get this way with impending changes of seasons; I start thinking about NEW NEW NEW. And as you know, I’m in the mood for color and pattern. I have also been slowly cleaning out my closet of things I haven’t worn much. (I think this dress I’m wearing is getting cut today…it’s just too much)
What’s caught your eye recently? Are you already starting to work on your fall/winter wardrobe?
Reading/Watching
Did you guys watch Succession (HBO)?? THAT SHOW. It was like a trainwreck I couldn’t look away from. The characters are all pretty much hateful, which is unsettling, but I kept watching thinking someone would redeem his/herself eventually??
I’m also watching Sharp Objects. I like it. I think I read the book? and I think I remember how it ends? but I’m not sure? haha…tells you how much of an impact it had on me. I just remember after reading Gone Girl a million years ago I sought out her other books to read as well, so I must have read it LOL
Right now I’m reading The Essex Serpent, which is totally random and I forget how I found it, but I love it. The writing is beautiful, which is what I appreciate more and more lately. I still need a good story, but I am really enjoying really EXCELLENT wordsmith also.
Doing
So excited about the Elizabeth Suzann meet-up I’m hosting tomorrow!! Wish you all could be here 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend!
I clicked on the Casey dress in “Topanga” which looks SO different. My question is about measurements because in that picture, the Topanga one, it looks very flowy but the hip measurement is 30′? How could that be? Are the measurements just generic for the brand not specific to this dress which seems very flowy without the belt? I love love the topanga fabric…. guess I can ask customer service…….. Can’t wait to see your Martinique!
i would check with ace & jig directly probably, although that dress is sold out on their site – but the 30 inches is measured flat, so that is pretty wide…
I own an ace & jig top, jumpsuit and cropped jacket. Here’s the thing…the textiles are lovely, but I don’t think they wear well. Because the fabric is woven and double layered, if you get a snag (which has happened) you can’t pull the thread back thru. Also, that soft cotton wears down like a favorite t-shirt; great for a t-shirt but not so much for a nice jumpsuit. I like the pieces I own, though I don’t wear them with great frequency because of the fabric. That said, I’m always tempted…but will probably not buy anything else unless I find it on sale.
I am so over summer—my least favorite season. Unfortunately, “fall” doesn’t get to Florida until December or January if I’m lucky. Thus, I just look longingly at autumn clothes.
Reading, Educated: A Memoir. Very good if you feel like some non fiction!
Have a great weekend!
I love that tank top! I don’t need anything, at all…but the cut is so cute! 68 bucks for a tank top I don’t need tho…Also fall is coming….I won’t need tank tops then….
ok I’m getting it.
Yes! I have read that Ace & Jig will host clothing swaps and have tailors there to repair the pieces. Apparently they are notoriously fragile. I just bought an Ace & Jig Vega blouse in large, and was confused by the sizing, too. It’s really big and not the most flattering cut on me. I’m planning to wear it with jeans and a cardigan this fall (lol, winter in Texas!). They are doing a new collab that features home items, so maybe a pillow or throw is a good option if you really like a fabric pattern.
And both Doen and Ace & Jig’s vibes are weird to me, to be honest. As editorials, the photos are beautiful, but they definitely don’t translate well into my suburban world.
Loving the Ace & Jig casey dress and the bo skirt!! (drool….). There is one boutique in Honolulu that carries Ace & Jig in a very small quantity. It’s not even a clothing boutique, more of a gift shop with one small rack of nicely edited pieces. But it would be nice to try it on first.
I have an earlier version of the EF jumpsuit except with a cap sleeve in black jersey. The zipper makes the top more fitted (& more flattering). My co-worker has the same one that I have and we both wear it constantly. I did size down (one size) to a petite small in that one. Looks great with a long open cardigan.
Interesting you don’t like EF shoes. I wear EF shoes about 50% of the time. but it’s pretty much the same shoe in different colors and heights (the one with the pointy toe and the ankle wrap). It’s pretty much my go to business attire or dress shoe. I have two pairs in black, one in greige and one in cognac, the heeled version. I used to have the flat version in black but wore it to death. Still on the lookout to replace it.
I’m still enjoying the summer but I’m sure our summer is more moderate than yours.
I concur with your assessments. WTH is with a zipper in the BACK of a jumpsuit? SIDE, Eileen! SIDE!
The striped dress from ace & jig is totally appealing…and I’m not a print dress person (Well, neither have you been….yet!)
Watching “Castle Rock” but my husband isn’t into scary like I am. And funny little aside: My daughter told me she waited on Bill Skaarsgard and I’m thinking, “Oh, he’s cute. Big Little Lies, True Blood, etc. “ Then, tonight she gets home while we’re watching said spooky show with very creepy guy and she says, “That’s the guy I waited on.” And it suddenly dawns on me, that I’m thinking of his hunky brother, Alexander, while this brother is the freakin’ clown from “It”! Haha! 😉
I want to read that next, Debi!
Does the code exclude System items. It won’t work for me 🙁
Eileen Fisher kimono jacket is great – black (I know) and travels well and multi-seasonal at least here on the West Coast.
Will likely buy that because I “need” another black jacket.
