Wearing/Shopping
Wearing:
Oh my gosh…this is total real life for you!! I am racing to get this post up so it goes out in today’s email in time, so I didn’t have time to dry my hair or anything. BECAUSE, the pilot light on our water went out again – I discovered IN THE SHOWER – and I had to investigate, etc., then quick back to work.
So, this is what I’m wearing right this second. Wet hair and all. I am not going to carry the backpack today, I just had it out to show my sister and threw it on so you could see how it looks from the side; it holds it’s shape really well because of the insert, which will be great for traveling I think – and then you can remove it when you get to your destination so it’s more slouchy and doesn’t take up so much room. Genius. Denver, here I come!!
I just received the Baja East sweatpants (I ordered them with the credits I earn from Shopbop every month) this morning, and so far so good. I got these instead of a pair of JP joggers/sweats because 1. the inseam is shorter 2. the zipper pockets 3. 100% cotton – no trim, etc. 4. JP cotton sweats always stretch out too much on me so I can only wear them at home.
I’ve had the Lauren Manoogian sweater for about a month or so, but today will be my first day wearing it. I love it, in general, but I’m REALLY glad I bought the medium instead of the small I was going to order, and I sort of wish it hung a bit better on the sides – like it was boxier. It’s nice and cozy though, and I needed a “color” in my wardrobe!
And I’ve had my AllBirds shoes for almost a week and I’ve worn them every morning to walk Dagny. We don’t walk very long or far anymore now that she has a yard, but so far I love them. No breaking in period, and they’re nice and warm for cooler mornings. I’m actually thinking of getting a pair of the slip-ins too, but I want to live with these for awhile.
Shopping:
Bags. I love bags. I used to have and cycle through many more bags than I do currently, but it seems I’m always on the lookout for one. Now, specifically, I’m on the hunt for a hobo bag: open at the top, ONE shoulder strap, and not all leather (not faux leather either). I had one I loved by Robert Clergerie earlier last year, and had to return it because the hardware was defective. But I miss that bag all the time.
Here are some I’ve run across recently that are intriguing:
Hoi Bo – this is truly a beautiful bag, almost an art piece. The green is gorgeous (but I’d probably buy the black…) and I am just obsessed with all the thoughtfulness that went into making this bag; everything is sourced and made in North America and it is made from recycled polyester and veg tanned leather.
The Transience – I’m a huge fan of neoprene, and if it’s mesh, bonus. I had a tote triangle bag by MM6 that was mesh neoprene, but the two shoulder straps and small opening prevented it from being a very practical bag for me. This one is probably larger than I’d prefer, but I love all the organizational pockets, and that it seems indestructible.
Stella McCartney – This is a non-starter right now because of the $$, but it’s probably my holy grail hobo bag. Not too big, not too small, non-leather & thoughtfully made, interesting enough to not be boring, while not flashy at all.
Speaking of shopping, who’s gearing up to shop the Signature Gen 4 launch at Elizabeth Suzann on November 1? Anyone already see anything they’re interested in?? CLYDE CULOTTES!!!!!! (in my mind they’re just wide leg pants with clyde pockets)
Reading/Watching
I CANNOT WAIT to start watching Stranger Things season 2 tonight 🙂 Of course I loved the first season, but then again, I’m a child of the 80’s (I don’t listen to much music that was made after the 80’s LOL) and eat up all that nostalgia. I also love a good scare!!
Doing
My sister is leaving tomorrow, so I’m making dinner tonight (I have no idea what…) and hopefully we’ll get some time to netflix & chill with Stranger Things. Over the weekend, I have LOADS of yard work to do. Fun 🙂
How was your week? What are you doing this weekend?
Absolutely love that stretchy bag, but cannot do a hobo :-(. I have to be able to find things fast. Many thanks, however, for introducing me (us) to this great Canadian company. I am definitely ordering other things from them!
yes, that’s my problem, generally with hobo bags, and since my arms are short, they don’t reach all the way to the bottom of the bag when i have it on my shoulder! 😉 but…when i was carrying that RC bag, it was never a problem like i thought it would be – probably because it was ALL the way open. i don’t know. i’m just dreaming now anyway, i don’t need a new bag!!
Bags – I’m kind of over bags. I’ve got the ones I need for now. Not really interested in adding to my collection.
ES Signature – Can’t wait!!!
Stranger Things – Can’t wait!!!
Weekend – probably carving a pumpkin and encouraging my son to decide on his Halloween costume so we’re not looking for pieces on Tuesday morning. And buying Halloween candy…
Any thoughts on the Everlane cashmere square hoodie? I’m tempted (again) but I’ve been burned so many times with Everlane.
oh, i’m really tempted by the everlane cashmere square hoodie (it’s in my cart right now!), but i’m trying not to buy more cashmere, because honestly, i have enough, and i would rather add more alpaca pieces. and yeah, i’m unsure of how it will fit on me, i like their square shapes in theory, but they don’t ever seem to work on me in practice.
I didn’t realize how finicky I am about bag shape & size until I couldn’t find anything I liked on me :-0 And my travel & daily use needs (wants, lets be honest!) are different. That said, I went a little outside my comfort zone for the Umbrella Collective bag I got and I’ve been really happy with it!
I think I spotted a long-sleeved linen Harper tunic in he ES photo shoot… I would love to grab one of those in ivory.
Mostly I’m curious to see the changes to the Georgia tee and dresses; it’s my favorite silhouette and I really wish it was staying EXACTLY the same. I’m pretty well set with Georgias, though, so I guess it’s not a tragedy if the changes don’t suit me. The blog mentioned “tightening the neckline,” and I’m having trouble envisioning that because (on me, at least) the neckline is not especially open. I never worry about bra straps showing, and my Georgia tees and dresses don’t slip around when I’m wearing them. I have broad shoulders, though, so maybe that makes a difference.
Hi, love your blog, found you after looking for more info and reviews on ES! I’m obsessed, have not ordered anything yet,but will shortly. You mentioned the new Signature collection, which I did read about on her site, but is there somewhere to be able to preview it ? Thanks!
Hi, left a “first” comment a little while ago, and now it’s gone. Did I do something wrong??
DianeJ
Reasons from today’s post that you’re my favorite blogger:
1. I love that camel is a “color” for you.
2. You’re not afraid to take a “wet hair” picture for us. (Take THAT, prissy bloggers!)
3. You show us a bag that is, literally, a work of art…and a great price.
4. You then show us a bag that is made of faux leather for over $1300. 😉
5. You know that sweatpants are REAL fashion.
6. You think that temps in the 70’s are cold and you break out your cashmere for warmth from the chill.
Love you!
Sorry Diane – I was just slow to approve it!
If you are on Instagram and follow Elizabeth suzann she has put some previews in her “stories “ recently. (Those are the short videos at the top of your Instagram app)
Thanks!
Grechen, I came here first thing this morning to tell you to watch “The Center Will Not Hold,” the new Netflix documentary about Joan Didion. I watched it last night and it’s beautiful. Griffin Dunne, who is Joan’s nephew and also played the husband in “I Love Dick,” made the film and it is so intimate. I think you’ll really like it.
And I’d love to read a review of the All Birds shoes if you decide you like them. The slippers look really nice.
I also hope your water heater is okay. Ours had a slow leak this weekend that kept the pilot light from staying lit. I am waiting for the plumber now.
🙂
love you too ….
Get the AllBirds slip-ins, you will absolutely love them. I like them better than the sneakers.
