James Perse dressΒ (size 2, made in the US)
James Perse mini canvas bag
Play CdG X Converse sneakers (7-8 years old)
Wearing/shopping:
Yes, I added another navy blue item to my wardrobe, this James Perse dress. I love that it’s softer than black, but still DARK. It’s so funny how much it freaks people out IRL to see me in navy blue. I’m not going to push it, but maybe I’ll continue to branch out and add more colors??
My friend got me a sample of this Lush African Paradise body conditioner and I have been using it sparingly, but am IN LOVE. I’m honestly not sure how I can live without it, despite the high price tag; it’s especially wonderful on shaved legs. I really hate to use body lotion or oils after a shower/bath, and this takes care of it all in the shower (it’s like you’re adding a layer of “wax” for lack of a better description to your body that repels water after applied) so I can be finished.
I’m also thinking of going back to their powder deodorant because I am SO SICK AND TIRED of deo marks all over my dresses, tops, etc. when I get dressed. No matter how careful I am, I always manage to get it all over myself.
Do you use any Lush products you love?
Reading/watching:
This is a great piece in Fast Company about Levi’s sustainability efforts. Β I like my wedgie jeans, and appreciate that they’re Β made with Cone denim from the US.
ARE YOU WATCHING Schitt’s Creek YET?? WHY NOT??
These are my favorite Eugene Levy/Catherine O’Hara characters EVER. I wasn’t a huge fan of their characters in Best In Show (I preferred Parker Posey’s), but they are HILARIOUS in this show. And Eugene’s son Dan is wonderful. His character David is decked out in pretty much all Rick Owens, which is avant garde in nearly ANY situation, but even more so in a super small town in who-knows-where. They all just have perfect comedic timing and expressions. I love it and recommend it HIGHLY (although I am opposed to the name, I just don’t like plays on words like that…). It’s on netflix and amazon.
Doing:
I went to Atlanta Saturday for my mother’s birthday and on Sunday we drove to Savannah for two nights. Savannah was really crowded, and hot, but we only stayed overnight in the city (right on the river so we could watch the container ships going through) and during the days went to a couple of local wildlife refuges to go birding. We had such a wonderful time together, and I’ve really missed birding like that. For reference, we thought Harris Neck national wildlife refuge was better than the Savannah national wildlife refuge, although Savannah had a visitor’s center – with RESTROOMS – and you could drive around it more easily.
This weekend I might head to the Eileen Fisher store for their system event and just to see what’s new.
What are your plans this weekend??
Hi Grechen – Schitt’s Creek is on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) here in Canada and I think that Canadians are pretty proud of it! It’s filmed in a small town in Ontario, but I think they deliberately leave it vague for the American market. I agree with you on the comedic timing and expressions – it’s often when they are not talking that they are at their most hilarious.
I LOVE navy blue! That’s my main neutral; it just looks so much better on me than black. Tomorrow night we are going to our dinner club. The theme is Portugal and we are doing a soup and a side. Should be fun.
i don’t know what it is about the type of comedy, but i have long been a fan of canadian’s in comedy. and brits. maybe it’s the slightly darker, more subtle, intelligent humor? although i will say i thought the american version of the office was just a little bit inferior to the original – it wasn’t horrible LOL
i love the idea of a dinner club! we have friends over every once in a while, but never a large group, or a theme. that would be fun!!!
Is this JP dress double layered like the JP Open Back dress? Also, it looks like this dress is not quite as long as the OB dress, true? I really like my OB dress, but sometimes I feel a little “hobbled” in it. Maybe I just walk too fast and my stride is too long. Hah! Thx!
I was going to say of course I am….i’m Canadian….but Patricia beat me to it. Actually I only started this year……I can’t commit to anything on TV until i see how it goes. Starting a TV series before it goes into syndication is pretty immediate for me. As to navy, right on side with Patricia here too. LOVE the dress, but too expensive for me …….maybe on sale at some point. Also deeply in love with the JP off the shoulder zip dress. It’s the dress I’ve been imagining for myself for years and years but never found. Unfortunately, at my current age, who am I kidding? (Although my spouse does like my neck……) What do you think, ladies, is this dress age-limited or ………? Be honest!
yes, it’s double-layered, and the same length, but for some reason i think it’s running a little smaller than the open back dress. although people said they sized down in the open back dress and i did NOT, and maybe should have so it was snugger. the fact that it fits a little smaller IMO makes it ride up more when i’m walking, or moving around, so it looks shorter.
i never feel hobbled, honestly, although i have in some JP dresses. i have pretty short legs though π
i love that dress you’re talking about, but have concerns about the fabric. (here it is for anyone else interested: http://www.jamesperse.com/women/apparel/dresses/womens-one-shoulder-zip-dress-wtrc6216?color=1931&cm_filter=WOMEN%2FAPPAREL%2FDRESSES) i have no experience with it and no idea how it will wash/wear, and i would never dry clean it, as recommended, so i’d be nervous to try it. but the shape/style/length/etc are beautiful and NOT AGE LIMITED AT ALL. honestly i think it’s a stunning dress and would be beautiful on any age.
i’m intrigued by off the shoulder looks lately; i really love my shoulder blades/neckline, but worry about being cold π
For those of us in the boonies without the internet capacity to stream videos longer than a 13sec cat video, Schitt’s Creek is on Pop on my DirecTV – we’ve been fans from the beginning!
Heading to Florida tomorrow – Orlando to work a trade show for my husband’s business (which means I’m “on vacation” from my own job π So, work work work – then Harry Potter. Can’t wait!
I love that JP dress but have decided it’s not a great brand for my body right now. Eileen Fisher, on the other hand….I love that skinny maxi dress you have on SLOWRE but sadly I am not XS -not even in Eileen Fisher π I haven’t seen a dress like that the past couple years – that’s the style I’m looking for (long and skinny) so I’ll have to keep my eyes out as the new season stuff is released….
Love that dress on you!
There is a product at LUSH called King of Skin that’s a solid lotion. You keep it in the shower, and rub it all over when you finish your shower. It is my favorite lotion of all time!! It doesn’t irritate my crazy sensitive skin, and sinks right into your wet skin so you don’t feel all greasy. It’s not too expensive and lasts about 6-8 weeks, which is totally worth it to me!
I watched Schitt’s Creek right before it came on Netflix and it is AMAZING!! I’m kind of in love with Dan Levy, but Stevie is pretty much my favorite character. Best show EVER.
Also, that dress is gorgeous on you! I love a good navy blue piece π
Hadn’t gotten to the fabric part, due to fear of style/age equation, but mmmmmm……not clear on environmental effects of acetic acid, but not a fan of polyester. Washing polyester results in invisible particles being released into our lakes and rivers……very bad for fish, fauna, etc. I imagine that would also be the case if dry cleaned, but not sure.
Hi Grechen-
Love this dress on you and navy is a good color for you. I went to the Eileen store today and tried on those layering dresses from the resort 17 collection- I got the light denim 3/4 sleeve dress to wear with white jeans or her cropped ankle pants. I would like to go back for the System event. They did give me the double points for the event and I used my $25 gift card, yeah!
March& April in NY are amazing for birding Grechen- Central Park gets so many visitors from around the globe to see so many diiferent species that come to rest on their long journey north. It’s amazing behind the Boathouse are all these feeders set up and maintained by the parks department during migration season. I had this little beauty fly down and take seeds from my hand! Looking forward to reading what you think of the System event.
Love the navy! This is so flattering on you!
I make my own deo. I sweat, but no stains and yellowing, and no stink.
50/50 baking soda and arrowroot powder
Coconut oil to desired consistency (hardens as sets up)
Drizzle of olive oil (use very sparingly – keeps it pliable but can leave washable oil marks if you use too much)
Essential oils if you like for scent – 20 drops lavender and 5 peppermint is lovely.
I’m not really a fan of Levis. They still make hoards of stuff in very unconscious ways. Also, I went into the store the other day simply because it was the shop next to where my dog gets groomed. It reminded me of why I hate corporate chain stores in the first place. They didn’t carry any jeans in my size. They offered me men’s jeans instead. They play into the whole sexist thing of not carrying bigger sizes of women’s clothes, but for men they do of course. Why do they body shame women and not men ? If women need bigger sizes, they must go to a “special” store (plus) or shop online. They’re not valuable enough customers to be able to shop in public at the Levis shops. Furthermore, their size 32 jeans were at best a size 10 and at worst a size 8. It was a terrible, shaming shopping experience. Their brand is all about glorifying youth and being cool- the very things they say are essential to eradicate in order to create a more sustainable fashion industry.
On another note, that JP dress looks great on you!
I agree with Grechen: I think it’s a gorgeous dress…almost a work of art, really! I’m not crazy about my arms, so I’d throw on a lightweight Chan Luu scarf or cardi. But I think the fit looks perfect…not too loose and not too tight…length is great, too. Go for it, Kathryn! (I’m 56 and I’d wear it)
Ok. Now I’ve got to check out LUSH again. My skin is SO sensitive!
And you all have got me wanting to binge-watch Schitt’s Creek! (Grechen, we always used that title as part of an expression in the Midwest: “I’m up Schitt’s Creek without a paddle” when we were in hot water with mom and dad. Familiar in any other parts of the country???)
No weekend plans, but reading and maybe going for a walk.
Dang! I love that dress on you…color, style and the whole shebang.
I felt like that when I walked into Lululemon… The sales lady said the pants I tried on were to small because they were shiny, that means the fabric is stretching… I thought they looked good and might have even considered my first fancy yoga pant purchase but after that I just left and won’t go back…
Wow, JP ruched dresses are really made for you, you look stunning!!! That small waist… so envious. And you must be one of those very few people who looks good in cap sleeves. You should try pairing with those golden shoes? Similar style to what you have on but fancier.
Just checked out Schitt’s Creek on Netflex and it is so, SO GOOD. How did everyone already know about this? More shares like this please.
A couple of years ago I emailed a sustainable/local artisan company producing designs out of West Africa in order to get clarification on their sizing (NOT Osei-Duro. Love Osei-Duro.) In reply, they didn’t clarify their sizing at all, merely stating that their sizes are “young” fitting. I didn’t bother to seek further clarification, and never visited their site again. And I’m not big, so I probably could have purchased their product. Ageism at it’s best!
That dress looks great on you! I wish I could pull off more form fitting clothes but I just feel so weird wearing anything tight here in Japan.
I have been addicted to Lush’s Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner for about 5 years now and even though it’s a bit pricy it’s extremely hard to give up (sadly I think I finished my tub this morning and I’m in the middle of a shopping fast so I won’t be able to replenish for the next month). I’m a bigger fan of sweet smells so African Paradise isn’t my cup of tea but Lush’s body conditioners are so amazing in that you don’t get that sticky feeling like you get when putting on lotion and god forbid you have to put on pants after. Lush shower products are also a favorite for me. I use their Rose Jam shower jell as well as Snow Fairy depending on my mood. Sadly these are both seasonal ones and not available year round but I usually buy in bulk and have enough to last me for the year haha. Thanks for the post and have a good week!
Love Schmitt’s Creek! Thanks for tip about Lush. Navy is a great neutral for me, too!
Ugh, Lulu Lemon is notoriously bad (read statements by their MALE owner about not wanting to carry items for women over a certain size). I feel sorry for the sales people who oftentimes really want to help you but can’t.
