Wearing/Buying
These pants. I wear them every day. I have a hard time with James Perse pants, generally, because they always end up being too big on me at the waist and butt area, and can look quite sloppy. I gave my last pair to my sister because they were falling off me. But now that I’m pregnant it’s a WHOLE different story LOL. I think these make the best maternity pants you could ask for; I sort of want to wear nothing else. 11 weeks!!
I did place an order from the James Perse sale yesterday, for the long dress and a high gauge tee. I decided not to order the sweatpants in favor of the dress because I always love having a long ribbed cotton dress and I think it will be super-easy to wear as I get bigger. And I cannot resist any of the high gauge pieces, they are that good. Did anyone order anything yet?
Oh, and we got a new mattress/bed this week! We had been sleeping on an ikea tempurpedic knock-off for 9 years on a bed with a broken frame, so it was basically the mattress on the floor, which I couldn’t take anymore. We got a Saatva (organic cotton/sustainable) king size mattress and foundation, and a frame from them as well. I find it very comfortable – the luxury firm mattress is the perfect amount of firmness. It’s quite high up though, especially compared to sleeping on the floor basically, which I don’t mind so much, but poor Dagny has a hard time getting up! I put a stool at the foot of the bed to help her a bit, but she doesn’t use it. She just sits there and whines for a minute, then she takes a running jump and barely makes it LOL.
Now, if I could only sleep through the night. I know, I know…get used to it. I know I have many many sleepless nights ahead, but just for now, I’d like to be able to stay asleep.
Reading/Watching
I read Bad Blood about Theranos and could not put this book down; I finished it in a few days. Mostly because I was consistently stunned that Elizabeth Holmes was able to get away with all she did, for as long as she did. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and it was a different time when she started the company, but still. The writing was excellent too – it moved quickly and was very engaging.
Now I’m catching up on all the Tana French books I haven’t read.
I watched Private Life – which was very good (love the actors so much), but I also felt like it was missing something. I can’t even begin to imagine how devastating it must be to want a child so badly and it not work for you no matter how hard you try; that’s not my story. But I do wish they had explored the idea of continuing their lives without children, and would that be so bad? That is STILL something that is unfortunately taboo to talk about. haha… seems like everything I watch lately is “lacking” somehow…
Doing
I am getting SO MUCH excellent consignment in for slowre lately! I’m really excited to get it all up. If you happen to be tidying up this weekend, I’d be happy to look at whatever isn’t sparking joy for you anymore 😉
I need to do some tidying myself this weekend. Not so much getting rid of things as organizing them better. It’s going to be super-cold this weekend, so maybe a good time to stay in my closet?
What are your plans?
I stopped using sleeping pills a few weeks back (benadryl, doxylamine) due to concerns over link to dementia. Bought a fancy white noise machine, because I love white noise. It helps! Every night, husband and I pick the “soundtrack” we want – waterfall, rainfall, ocean, brook, trains, etc. There are 10 different sounds with 3 levels each (adding more to the background in richness) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SMJQT4/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This weekend – installing blinds on our screened porch (assuming they arrive tomorrow as expected) so we can enjoy time out there during the NC summer (and spring, early fall…despite the ceiling fans, the sun makes it soooooo hot) . Nothing else exciting 😉 Oh, planning a work trip to Southern CA – with a few days fun – so doing some research.
You’re almost through your 1st trimester! Oh, that JP dress is going to look SOOOO good! I’ve splurged a little lately…a Frank & Eileen flannel when they were on sale, and a black v-neck cashmere sweater from Saks, also on sale.
I really like Tana French books! I finally finished Commonwealth by Ann Patchett (loved it) and I’m now finishing Being Mortal, which is something I think anyone with aging parents (all of us?) should read. Then I’m on to Becoming, which my darling youngest daughter gave me for Christmas.
Sleep…I wish I could figure that one out. I was just diagnosed with apnea, so maybe that’s a partial solution for me.
Funny aside: I helped my husband clean out his closet today and I made him use the Marie Kondo method. To say that we had s lot of laughs is an understatement. Watching my husband of 36 years thank his holey sweatshirt for its years of service to him was hilarious. I’ve gotta say, his wardrobe doesn’t spark joy! Haha!
Two nights ago, I watched Private Life on Netflix too! I thought the most compelling part of the movie was how Molly Shannon’s character reacted negatively to the whole thing. It became about how she had to sacrifice her career to have kids. And how intolerable it feels to have your family sacrifice more so that someone else could cheat the system so-to-speak… I thought that dynamic was so interesting!
I havent slept through the night since 1985. Even though your kids are grown the habit is there……. Two great ways to fall asleep- (but it uses my iphone and earbuds so other in bed won’t complain)
…..) Candy Crush and Audiobooks!!For now, Gone with the wind is my drug of choice…….. works every time.
I too read Bad Blood (actually listened to the audio book) and thought it was excellent. I also remember when people were in awe of Elizabeth Holmes and she was being written about everywhere. A truly incredible story.
Maybe something like this for Dagny? https://www.chewy.com/solvit-pupstep-plus-dog-cat-stairs/dp/53687 We have a set for our 16 year old cat.
I have been on a Tana French kick lately too! I have managed to get ALL the books on my kindle via the library – really lucky get the newest Dublin Murder Squad one (which I loved). Just got The Witch Elm in print from my library as well. I have to say, her very first book is actually one of my least favorite.
